Proposal Outline 1. Subject of Course Project: To analyze current medical technology infrastructures and insurance accurate processing demands while recommending improvements for doctor and patient level reports, bills, claims, records and data exchange and enhancements through the use of technology and business re-engineering initiatives. 2. Business Problem Statement: As compared with other sectors of society who have successfully integrated IT into their business practices, the field of medicine has not been as aggressive in its approach to IT integration. Due to the rising cost of healthcare and increasing demands by patients and insurers for better quality care, healthcare organizations are being driven to implement IT to improve results. Healthcare is a very “information-intensive, confidential and sensitive industry,” that remains highly fragmented and inefficient. The use of technology in delivering clinical care, processing insurance claims and performing administrative functions has the potential to yield both cost savings and improvements in the care itself. The automation of electronic medical records and claims processing can be shown to save time and money as well as improve the effectiveness of making pertinent patient information and medical charges readily accessible to healthcare providers and patients. Sensitivity to patient privacy rights and cost audits must also be considered, as this information is considered “highly sensitive,” and must be accurate and protected. Also, with the pace of change in the global economy, it is hard to stay current on the business trends and developments impacting the medical insurance industry.

(P.58) Changes in Demand * Note that a change in demand is different from a change in quantity demanded. * A change in demand occurs when the entire curve shifts. * This means that the quantity demanded at every given price will be different from what it was before. Demand * Demand refers to the quantity of products people are willing and able to purchase during some specific time period, all other relevant factors being held constant. * Price and quantity demanded have an inverse relationship known as the Law of Demand, depicted as a downward-sloping curve. * A market demand is the horizontal sum of all of the individual demand curves. * Demand curves shift when one or more of the determinants of demand change. * The determinants of demand are: consumer tastes and preferences, income, prices of substitutes and complements, the number of buyers in a market, and expectations...

Principles of Managerial Economics

...“This document is attributed to Donald N. Stengel” Attributed  to  Donald  N.  Stengal   Saylor  URL:  http://www.saylor.org/books/           Saylor.org   1       Chapter  1   Introduction  to  Managerial   Economics     What  Is  Managerial  Economics?   One standard definition for economics is the study of the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. A second definition is the study of choice related to the allocation of scarce resources. The first definition indicates that economics includes any business, nonprofit organization, or administrative unit. The second definition establishes that economics is at the core of what managers of these organizations do. This book presents economic concepts and principles from the perspective of “managerial economics,” which is a subfield of economics that places special emphasis on the choice aspect in the second definition. The purpose of managerial economics is to provide economic terminology and reasoning for the improvement of managerial decisions. Most readers will be familiar with two different conceptual approaches to the study of economics: microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics studies phenomena related to goods and services from the perspective of individual decisionmaking entities—that is, households and businesses. Macroeconomics approaches the same phenomena at an aggregate level, for...

As such, it bridges economic theory and economics in practice.[2] It draws heavily from quantitative techniques such as regression analysis, correlation and calculus.[3] If there is a unifying theme that runs through most of managerial economics, it is the attempt to optimize business decisions given the firm's objectives and given constraints imposed by scarcity, for example through the use of operations research, mathematical programming, game theory for strategic decisions,[4] and other computational methods.[5] Managerial decision areas include: • assessment of investible funds • selecting business area • choice of product • determining optimum output • determining price of product • determining input-combination and...
