Running head: PROBLEM SOLUTION: GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS

Problem Solution: Global Communications Global Communication (GC) was a dominant force in the telecommunication industry. With the recent decline in stock prices, they will consider outsourcing jobs to India and Ireland as a cost cutting measure. With added pressure from stockholders and the need to stay competitive, Global Communications need to offer better services than their competitors do. GC is not alone when fronted with these types of issues. Many companies have struggles to keep their companies alive against the growing number of competitors in any given industry. Management is compelled to make decisive choices in order to turn their companies around. These decisions include the process of planning, implementing, and evaluating the outcomes. Many companies found that maximizing use of employees and organizational communication can be the difference in regaining stability and losing everything. While outsourcing will take away jobs from existing employees and bring down employee morale, companies may want to look into merging with an existing company. Mergers will provide new opportunities, new avenues, and career development that will result in competition and eventually job security. Mergers are a new business opportunity that will allow the company to broaden their horizons and produce skillful associates as well. Global Communications can realize and accomplish new goals by merging with a cable company. This merger will be beneficial to the company and the people working there. This will allow GC to increase profits with the new services they will offer and employees will gain knowledgeable work experience. Both the company and employees are vital factors in the merger process. They need to walk hand in hand to complete the journey. Along with the company’s growth and prosperity, the associates will grow and prosper too. This is the concept of one hand washes the other. This way both parties will look out for each other and reap the fruits of prosperity with each other.
Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification Three years ago, Global Communication’s (GC) stock hit an all time low and investors are unsure if they will rebound form the tremendous economic pressure. With this in mind, GC rallied their top executives to strategize on bringing Global Communications into the forefront of the telecommunications industry. They plan to accomplish this by introducing technical call centers abroad while proving new services to its small business and consumer customers. As competition grows Global Communications must come up with the technical erudition that will bring in profits. In order to implement cost-cutting techniques that will improve profitability, Global Communications is looking to outsource to India and Ireland. Where increased technical sophistication is achieved. Internal communications is also a major concern for the company. Effective communication is vital to all organizations because it coordinates employees, fulfills employee needs, supports knowledge management, and improves decision-making (McShane-Von Glinow, 2004). Global Communications has a responsibility to its shareholders to consider all possible sources to resolve issues and make the best decisions. The Senior Leadership Team must come up with a plan to restructure the company and effectively communicate it to all employees. Global Communication's competitive advantage comes from their loyal employees.
Stakeholder Perspectives/Ethical Dilemmas
“Conflict is a process in which one party perceives that its interests are being opposed or negatively affected by another party.” (Kinicki & Kreitner, 2003, p.486) Global Communication (GC) is at a state of confusion. Three years ago, their stock valued at $28 per share and now is at a low of $11 per share. GC must make changes and make them now if they want to be major contenders in the telecommunications industry. Their Senior Leadership Team must increase profitability by introducing new services by collaborating with a satellite provider and identifying cost-cutting measures by outsourcing call centers overseas to India and Ireland By doing so managers did not involve key stakeholder, Technologies Workers Union, who are now threatening to take legal action. With legal actions in the near future, Global Communications should start integrative negotiations with the union. This type of negotiation will allow both parties a win-win situation
Problem Statement Global Communications will emerge as a major competitor in the global telecommunications industry by lowering over-head cost and demonstrating assurance to their employees and customers.
End-State Vision Global Communication (GC) like many other telecommunication companies is under tremendous economic pressure. This is in part too much competition. In order for GC to satisfy stockholders concerns about diminishing returns, they must enter the global marketplace. With this, Global Communication will be able to provide better telecommunication services to their small business and consumer customers. Global has even collaborated with a satellite provider to allow small business owners better connectivity and accessibility. Therefore, the executives have looked into ways to cut cost that will increase company profits and increase its marketability.
Alternative Solutions Cutting cost does not mean cutting jobs. One alternative Global Communication would like to do is outsource jobs to India and Ireland. However, keeping jobs in house with the use of job training will guarantee job satisfaction. Many companies believe that happy employees make happy customers. Giving employees the opportunity to learn new skills will bring better job knowledge and less of a need to outsource. By implementing a training program, the employee will become more successful and feel more bonded to the company resulting in organizational commitment. Job security is another way to build organizational commitment. Firms should offer enough job security that employees feel some permanence and mutuality in the employment relationship. Global Communication can raise profits by merging with a cable company. Merging with a cable company will bring in new services as well as increase profits. Added services will attract new customers and give the company the opportunity to offer more products.
Analysis of Alternative Solutions Global Communication wants to grow in the telecommunication industry by offering new services to their customers. To compete they must join forces with a cable company that will offer more services to their existing customers. Collaborating with the cable company will allow Global Communication to offer more products and services. The merger with the cable company will give them a competitive edge as well as make a profit. Providing training to existing employees and acquiring new employees will give the company a competitive edge. With the profit, the company makes by merging with the cable company they can then offer existing employees training. This training will give them the knowledge and skills to provide better customer satisfaction. The increase in employee satisfaction and loyalty results in higher customer perceptions of value, which improves the company's profitability.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation Techniques With any new adventure, there are always risks. By training existing employees, the company will allow them to gain new skills and prevent outsourcing. Merging with the cable company will bring a risk of losing existing customers. Global Communications will gain customers as well. They can minimize the risk by offering promotional services to bring back customers as well as new customers.
Optimal Solution Collaborating with the cable company would be the best solution for Global Communication. Establishing a partnership with the cable company will give them the opportunity to retain existing employees and not outsource jobs to India and Ireland. Gaining the technology form the cable company to offer new products and services will allow Global Communication to increase their profits and raise share value.
Implementation Plan Global Communications management team will create two research teams. One team will create training for existing employees and the other will research cable companies. The training team will research the type of training needed to produce high performance employees. This in turn will give employees new job skills to perform at their highest level. By creating a positive work environment Global Communications will keep high performance employees. Satisfied employees will bring in and maintain customers. The other research team will scout cable companies and implement a plan to merge. Once the team has devised a plan that is beneficial to both companies, they will meet monthly to work out the strategies with upper management. In about six months, both companies should start the process of merging with one another.
Evaluation of Results The bottom line for Global Communication is profitability. Global Communication would like to raise their stock price by 40 % in the next three years. When the stock price increases, then the company can start introducing new plans and services. The introduction of promotional packages every six months will bring in new customers. Global Communications has not established an open line of communication with employees and the Technologies Workers Union. Establishing monthly meeting with union members and employees will create a stronger open line of communication with union members and employees.
Conclusion
Not being able to compete globally has created several problems for Global Communications. With their stock prices, dropping stockholders showed concern. GC’s management team came up with options to deal with issues like changes in technology, increased competition, and profitability. Not only were they dealing with these issues but also they had to communicate their plan to the union. Effective communication is vital to all organizations because it coordinates employees, fulfills employee needs, supports knowledge management, and improves decision-making. One recent report estimated that a company's market value increases by over 7 percent when it improves its "communications integrity." Another analysis identifies the leader's communication skills as an important influence on company performance (McShane-Von Glinow 2005). While Global Communication continues to strive to be competitive in the global market, they must continue with their plan of introducing new products and recognize that communication is also a key ingredient in employee satisfaction and loyalty. To combat competition and increase their profitability Global Communication joined forces with a local cable company. This not only increased profits by establishing new services but it allowed employees to develop new skills. This solution is a result of integrative bargaining, that provides the company and employees with win-win results. The company accomplished its goal of profitability and globalization by merging with a cable company to provide new services that will eventually increase their profits. Global Communication assists the union with their goal of job security by merging and providing new job skills. When employees are, content then it reflexes’ in their job performance. This in turn leads to satisfied customers and increased profits.

Quality Pioneers

...Total Quality Pioneers Paper xxxxxxxx Quality Management and Productivity MGT/449 xxxxxx xxx Introduction People are confronted with scenarios concerning quality nearly every day. The word or notion of quality can be defined a number of ways. Some think quality should be determined by individual standards and expectations, while others believe quality is an ever changing state. Goetsch and Davis systematically broke down the elements of quality and determined that “quality is a dynamic state associated with products, services, people, processes, and environments that meets or exceeds expectations and helps produce superior value (Goetsch and Davis, 2010 p.5).” Whatever ones interpretation of quality might be, the intent of this paper is to more clearly define quality and its elements as well as describe how the quality pioneer's use of the total quality elements made the pioneers successful. Furthermore, this paper will explain why the elements of quality are useful in today’s environment and offer some insight as to what the future of quality might look like. Quality and its Elements Quality is defined with a variety of distinct explanations. Nevertheless, understanding quality is the key. End use consumers that are businesses explain quality unmistakably through the use of standards, specifications, and other measurable features. For instance, an individual in search of a new automobile will make his or her final purchase decision based on the quality...

Transnational Chapter 1

...TM-Chapter 1 (Motivations, Means and Mentalities) In this chapter, a number of important questions that companies must resolve before taking the leap to operate outside their home environment. 1. What market opportunities, sourcing advantages, or strategic imperatives provide the motivation for their international expansion? 2. By what means will they expand their overseas presence-through modes such as exports, licensing, joint ventures, wholly-owned subsidiaries, or some other means? 3. How will the management mentalities – their embedded attitudes, assumptions, and beliefs- that they bring to their international ventures affect their chances of success? Operating in an international rather than a domestic arena presents managers with many new opportunities. Having worldwide operations not only gives a company access to new markets and low-cost resources, it also opens up new sources of information and knowledge and broadens the options for strategic moves that the company might make to compete with its domestic and international rivals. However, with all these new opportunities come the challenges of managing strategy, organization, and operations that are innately more complex, diverse, and uncertain. What is multinational enterprise? * Multinational enterprise has substantial direct investment in foreign countries (Not just the trading relationships of an import-export business), and actively manage and regard those operations as integral parts of the company...

Global Warming

...Global warming has become perhaps the most complicated issue facing world leaders. On the one hand, warnings from the scientific community are becoming louder, as an increasing body of science points to rising dangers from the ongoing buildup of human-related greenhouse gases — produced mainly by the burning of fossil fuels and forests. On the other, the technological, economic and political issues that have to be resolved before a concerted worldwide effort to reduce emissions can begin have gotten no simpler, particularly in the face of a global economic slowdown. After years of preparation for climate talks taking place in Copenhagen through Dec. 18, 2009, President Obama and other leaders announced on Nov. 15 what had already become evident — that no formal treaty could be produced anytime soon. Instead, the leaders pledged to reach a placeholder accord that would call for reductions in emissions and increased aid to help developing nations adapt to a changing climate and get access to non-polluting energy options. This would in theory give the nations more time to work out the all-important details. Negotiators would then seek a binding global agreement in 2010, complete with firm emission targets, enforcement mechanisms and specific dollar amounts to aid poorer nations. At the heart of the debate is a momentous tussle between rich and poor countries over who steps up first and who pays most for changed energy menus. Read More... Within the United States...

Forest

...Situation analysis Kenya’s forests are rapidly declining due to pressure from increased population and other land uses. With B of the country being arid and semi-arid, there is a lot of strain on the rest of the land since the economy is natural resource based. The productive area which forms about 20% of the country’s area falls in the medium and high potential agro-ecological zones and is under agriculture, forest and nature reserves. According to FAO Forest Resource Assessment 1990, Kenya is classified among the countries with low forest cover of less than 2% of the total land area. The dwindling forest cover has a severe effect on the climate, wildlife, streams, human population especially forest dwellers. Introduction. Deforestation is clearing Earth's forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land. Forests still cover about 30 percent of the world’s land area, but swaths the size of Panama are lost each and every year. The world’s rain forests could completely vanish in a hundred years at the current rate of deforestation. Reasons for cutting down the trees Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are related to money or to people’s need to provide for their families. The biggest driver of deforestation is agriculture. Farmers cut forests to provide more room for planting crops or grazing livestock. Often many small farmers will each clear a few acres to feed their families by cutting down trees and burning them in a process...

Article Rebuttal

...Global warming has been a heated topic of discussion for years. There are the people that believe in science and statistics, who say that is becoming more of an issue due to machine diagnostics and scientific evidence. The other side is the people that believe in religion and make choices by money, based on a plan created by god and an argument for our resources going to a cause that is inaccurate and impossible to fix. There does not seem to be a middle ground on this topic because you either believe in science or god, which has made this topic an ongoing debate with no results. The American Policy Roundtable is an organization in the United States that was founded on religion and republican views and they fund and profit from republican campaigning and success. Part of the Roundtable’s mission statement states “The objectives of the Roundtable model are built upon state-based public policy organizations, established in strategic states, all working to change America from "the bottom-up." Each state-based Roundtable organization serves under the auspices of the Board of Trustees of the American Policy Roundtable”. They state that they are a nonprofit organization, yet they have donations and contributions for radio station work and quote “Missionaries in the American field take care of their families as they serve the nation*”. Global Warming

...Global Warming Global warming, an increase in the earth's temperature due to the use of fossil fuels and certain industrial and agricultural processes leading to a buildup of “greenhouse gases” (principally carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and water vapor) in the atmosphere. Since 1896 it has been known that these gases reduce the escape of the earth's infrared radiation into space and this function to maintain the earth's relatively warm temperature. This is called the greenhouse effect. Although there is broad agreement that human activity, such as burning fossil fuels has reached a scale that is beginning to influence climate, there is much uncertainty and debate over how much and how fast the climate will warm. Elevated global temperatures could result in coastal flooding and the shifting of major climatic zones and may have serious implications for agricultural productivity. Since 1850 there has been a mean rise in global temperature of approximately 1.8 Fahrenheit and a 28 percent rise in carbon dioxide levels. While most scientists think this temperature rise to the increase in carbon dioxide levels, other scientists argue that this temperature rise could just be part of a natural fluctuation; such fluctuations have been recorded for tens of thousands years and operate in short-term as well as long-term cycles. Because of the difficulty of distinguishing between emissions caused by humans and those caused by natural sources, and a number...

Global Warming

...Global Warming Global warming has become perhaps the most complicated issue facing human beans and world leaders today . Warnings from the scientific community are becoming louder, as an increasing body of science points to rising dangers from the ongoing buildup of human-related greenhouse gases — produced mainly by the burning of fossil fuels and forests. Global warming is when the temperature of the earth rises which causes the earth to heat up. This effect happens because of greenhouse gases carbon dioxide ,water vapors, nitrous oxide and methane .These gases trap heat and light from the sun in the earths atmosphere which therefore increases the temperature of the earth. This is a negative impact on the earth and it effects humans ,animals, plants, and climates. A major theory to what causes global warming is the greenhouse effect . The greenhouse effect is when heat and light is trapped in earths atmosphere as a result of this happening the temperature rises. The greenhouse effect has a positive and a negative side on the positive side the greenhouse effect makes earth adaptable for people to live on, without it the earth would be freezing, or on the other hand it would be very hot. Although the greenhouse effect makes it able for humans to function and live on this earth if there gets to be to many gases the earth can get warmer and plants, animals, and humans might die. The reason why humans would die because there would be less food, corn, wheat, vegetables and fruits...

Urban Sprawl

...Two Urban sprawl, being one of the unavoidable adverse effects of global economic growth, means uncontrolled city expansion. It contributes to higher demand in consumption goods such as the gasoline and vehicles, which allows the economy continues to flourish in many developed countries as well as developing countries (especially in China). However, urbanization poses an acute ecological threat because it highly depends on the massive development of motorization which is a significant driver of more energy and lands consumption and more emissions of global warming gases. Furthermore, as the motorized urban sprawl means unhealthier, less affordable places for the poor to survive caused by the dispersal of their communities, on the one hand, and growing public health problems, on the other, it also creates serious social problems. To address these adverse effects of urbanization, the technological solution is recommended given that nowadays technology plays a crucial role in socio-ecological development. This essay will outline the problems driven by urbanization and argue that the technological solution is not the most fundamental one to deal with the social and ecological problem driven by urban sprawl. In terms of social problems associated with the spread of urban development, the technological solution may pose greater difficulties to cope with the social polarization in the sprawled cities. The global development of urban sprawl will lead to the explosion of motorization...

An Inconvient Truth

...An Inconvenient Truth is an eye opening and compelling look into the future of our planet. I had heard of global warming and thought I knew about it, but this documentary really opened my eyes. If steps are not taken now to try to reverse the effects of global warming, we will be without a home in the very near future. We can all do more to reduce the amount of carbon emissions being release into the atmosphere. It is up to us or there will be no hope for future generations. Global warming is simply an increase in the average temperature of the air near earth’s surface and the temperature of the oceans. The cause of global warming is the increase in greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide, in the earth’s atmosphere. What normally happens when the sun’s rays reach the earth they are bounced back into outer space. With global warming is these greenhouse gases trap the rays from the sun and hold them in the atmosphere increasing the temperature in the air. This is known as the greenhouse effect. Why should we worry if the temperature is increasing? Well this increase in temperature is already having serious effects on the planet. Global warming causes drastic changes in normal weather patterns. Some areas are getting too much rain while other areas are in a severe drought. When the temperature in the air increases, so does the temperature of the oceans. The significance of this is huge. Hurricanes depend on warm water to form, and in 2005 we saw the largest number...

Climate Change

...Peoples Attitudes towards Climate Change A group paper is presented to the faculty of Mindanao University of Science and Technology – Jasaan Campus presented by Steven Castino, Geneth Caturan, Marjohn Deleon, John Henry Mercado, Julan Aricayos, Kimbert Pacana, Joseph Sumayang, June Rey Tarpin, Richard Nacua, Joel Cabelto, and Rey Carlou Cailing. I. Introduction Climate Change or Global warming is the increase of the average temperature of earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and landmasses. Scientists believe earth is currently facing a period of rapid warming brought on by rising levels of heat-trapping gases, known as greenhouse gases, in the atmosphere (Harvey, 2012). Ironically, “It is not climate change that is our problem, but the attitude of people that should be addressing the problem” (Fernandez, 2012).
