Google glass is a new type of technology that is a way to have a touch tablet, or any sort of phone, whether it is an iPhone, android or any new technology, such as a Google phone in “glasses form”. This new knowledge is a form of free data that is right in front of your eyes! What Google Glass entails is it can film, take photos, give directions, search for things on Google, a translator and so much more. It is a new way of sharing what you are doing in your everyday life. “Isabelle Olsson, an engineer on the Glass project, said the http://jmaneapaper.blogspot.in/2013/11/google-glass-research-paper.html 1/5

company created the glasses for people to interact with the virtual world without distracting them from the physical world. It’s designed to interact closely with your senses, without blocking them” (FP Staff, 2012). To start off explaining in detail what this product is able to do, it has an internal camera that can see what you are doing. So if you were to tell it “Google glass, take a photo, or Google Glass record a video” it would with the sound of your voice through the microphone, based on what you are seeing since it is a kind of spectacle frame. It only overlooks over your right eye with a small rectangular prism. Another way of putting it is that it is a “display technology instead to put data in front (or at least, to the upper right) of your vision courtesy of a prism screen. This is designed to be easily seen without obstructing your view” (Rivington, 2013). What is used for the “glasses piece” is a little glass shaped square over your eye that is in another way like a bifocal. Stating that design of it has been around. While many years ago in the early 1900s the thought of having something covering your vision to try and help in a certain purpose was taken to a whole new level with Google Glass (Brownlee, 2013). According to Google the display

is "the equivalent of a 25-inch high definition screen from eight feet away" (Google Glass, 2013). There actually isn’t a definition or word to explain what Google’s Glass is. Covering your eye, and being able to show what your vision is seeing is a huge benefit of Google Glass. It takes a new point of view on pictures, such as using a Nikon or a Cannon photo. It is a more direct way of taking photos with a view finder. As well as photography being used you can also use film to video conference with your friends and show them what you're looking at. As a matter of fact, the software Google has also included is video conferencing, which will be beneficial for personal use, and business purposes. The Glass will be able to show the person on the other side what you are looking at whether it is a person, place or a PowerPoint that is needed for a business or job! Another main thing people that attract people to Google Glass are the directions. From now on it could become second nature. You will be able to drive safer with the map right up close. No more looking at your phone while driving and getting distracted, or having your GPS malfunctions then have to pull over. In fact it could make the roads safer and less accidents will happen. Yes, you will have to pair it with your phone, but it will be hands free with a GPS. As well as the translator will also be hand free. No more Siri trying to mess you up with your pronunciation. Communication or learning a new language in either America or any other country in the world could be easier. You could say “Google Glass how do you say “Where do I get…” in Arabic, and it will tell you the correct pronunciation with a real humans voice not a robot! In fact Google Glass will give you the benefit of http://jmaneapaper.blogspot.in/2013/11/google-glass-research-paper.html 2/5

scrolling through messages online or through a text and reply all through talking! Being able to control this technology is such a new development you can use a gesture to your need or say a command. It will be easier to use this data in fast new hands free ways. The microphone for instance is more high-tech. The newest technology, that I am learning and trying to understand is “bone conduction technology” To explain it simply, you will be able to listen to audio without having headphones in. The vibrations are able to travel through the bones in close proximity to your ears (Lloyd, 2013). This will help you listen to music, the translator, directions all while hearing what is going on around you. In depth, it is a new kind of FCC filling, which includes a pair of 2.4 GHz, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 (Rivington, 2013). Hopefully this is a start in the direction of different kinds of headsets for the common person! While that technology flourishes, then maybe the prices will be able to be cheaper in a matter of time. As of now Google Glass is only set up to connect to Google Maps on an Android phone or Bluetooth user, not specific to any other products other than the Android. There was no further information stating if Apple will want to connect to this product with their phones or iPad’s. Maybe they have something similar up their sleeve! Of course, with something as high profile as Google Glass, every major company will be linked with building a competitor. Since it is linked to a Bluetooth device, it also has to have something to charge it! Well, there will be a Micro USB drive embedded in it so it could be hooked up and charged on the go or at home! The charger is said to be able to be used all day without ever having to charge it, but phones say this as well, so it will depend on the user and how many hours per day or what it is specifically will be used for. There's 16GB of flash memory built into the device, although only 12GB will be available for user storage. The device will sync to your Google Drive in the cloud (Rivington, 2013). Lastly, Google Glass will come in five colors: Charcoal, Tangerine, Shale, Cotton and Sky. Using Glass's translation ability to turn that list from marketing speak to plain English, that's black, orange, grey, white and blue.

The Google Glass is beneficial to customers in so many ways. Being able to have a hands free device that has a recognizable microphone set up for your convenience to be used whenever wherever, because of the Wi-Fi device placed in the Glass will be useful to all of its users. The apps will be beneficial depending on the user. Some might use if for just personal and social purposes, such as using the camera to take pictures or film a concert. While others might use it for business and take it to the next level of video conferencing or using it to help you find your flight or check an email. There are many sorts of things beneficial for the consumer to any extent or preference. Since it has not been officially released there might be more apps than we think and Google Glasses production technologists will add more things for the business aspects of the http://jmaneapaper.blogspot.in/2013/11/google-glass-research-paper.html 3/5

world. Maybe a new way of organizing your day or documents in your little prism! Legally and there are many issues that could occur while using the Google Glass. Since the device is on your eyes, there might be some misuse of cameras, since an average person would either not know of the device or not know there are being filmed or photographed, which could cause legal issues or more. There is supposed to be a light go off or show up when a picture is being taken or something is getting filmed, but there is no real confirmation on any references that could determine that. So if there is that, yes it will be harder to stalk someone, or be creepy and take a photo without their permission, but it all depends on how observant people are in their everyday lives. Also, there are rumors of having an app that is able to recognize a face in a crowd. There were no great details about this yet, just hearsay, but if it is true it might make stalking quite a bit easier, or restraining orders a bit harder to enforce. Ethically the Google Glass is not something anyone “needs” per say. It is just a new form of technology that has been discovered. This could be beneficial in the many ways stated but never needed. So far the prices have not come out either as to how much it would cost, so if it is in the $1000 range then you can do the math if you think it is worth it by its cost. Although, there might be studies someday that show it increases a individual’s everyday life or helps them more with their business. As of now though there is no real right or wrong when it comes to this new technology. People will justify using this device for their work, such as people who want to keep up and have any kind of phone possible, who want to improve the technology, or make it their own. Nobody will know the outcome until it is out in the public, test runs are always great, but the testers who have them are usually excited or sign up to test out so they already have a new though in their mind about it before becoming biased. The Google Glass will be a spectacular thing for business owners or social people to buy when it is available to the public. As stated there are many beneficial things that are interesting such as the camera or the video conferencing applications. The development, the technology, the legal, ethical and social issues have all been clearly analyzed and thought out to explain in detail each part of the new Google Glass technology. The day Google Glass comes out there will be hopefully no developmental issues and everything should be completed as of that day, but since the day isn’t determined yet there most likely won’t be any issues regarding hurdles that must be overcame to bring it to completion on time.

Upon gathering our research, we learned a lot about how committed both Google and other entities are to pushing Project Glass into the consumer electronics arena, and came up with the general conclusion that if a consumer is interested in this bleeding-edge technology, it would probably suit him/her best to wait until the consumer version of this product is announced, with the added features and lower price tag Google has promised en towe. ...

...In this paper we will discuss how Google Glass is a revolutionary integration of powerful technology. We will address how Google Glass might be helpful in daily personal and work life. Google Glass is defined as a wearable computer that has a optical head-mounted display. The Google Glass displays information like a smart phone would, but in a hand free format, that also communicates with the internet via voice commands. Google Glass can be described as having Blue-tooth, Wi-Fi microphone, GPS, speakers, and a camera. The Google Glass comes with or without frames in the colors of charcoal, tangerine, shale, cotton, and sky, and developers are working on integrating prescription frames in them for a fee. Google Glass isn't available for purchase yet, but for a fee of $1,500 before taxes you can be placed on a list if a spot opens up. Google Glass for me would work great in my personal and work life. In my daily activities in personal life I would be able to capture tons of pictures as I do now, and record videos. The Google Glass would help me out by allowing my hand to be free while I'm doing something. I would be able to capture special moments without reaching in my purse to find my phone, and possibly missing the moment. I would have the time there available on the glass, seeing as I don't wear a watch. It can also give me directions while I’m driving so I won't have to look at the GPS. I can speak and send messages to friends and family without texting while driving...

We would also like to thank our families for their constant support, encouragement and motivation without which the accomplishment of this project would not be possible. We would also like to thank our friends and all the people who directly or indirectly played a role in this project. ABSTRACT [pic] Mankind has always strived to give life like qualities to it’s artifacts in an attempt to find substitutes for himself to carry out his orders and also to work in a hostile environment. The popular concept of a robot is of a machine that looks like a human being. Cleaning of floors of rooms and corridor usually involves lot of effort and labour on the part of the person doing it. It causes much trouble, waste of time and energy on the part of humans. Moreover, it also proves to be expensive if a person is hired for doing it. It also makes the employer dependent on the person hired for getting the job done. Thus it bounds people in a way and renders them helpless. What if this process is made automatic and independent of any apparent human role. This can be done with the help of embedded technology and automation. That is the job we as future EC engineers have undertaken. The process of cleaning can be...

As a result of that we got a lot of feedback, which will help us to improve our product. The task of our team is to forecast the Google Glass’ potential for longevity. In order to that it was my job to analyze the limitations by itself and even to work the social hurdles out. Over the last weeks we gathered lots of ideas for improvements from our 10.000 “Explorers”. Findings To start with the technological impression, there is to say that the technological level is very low. Countless flaws led to nine updates since the release of the beta version, which means much effort for our customers to keep at the best available technology. Another point is that the software seems to be quite poorly sophisticated. It is neither possible to edit photos nor to upload them to Instagram. The directory includes only 10 contacts while it has very weak capabilities anyway. Besides that there are struggles with the voice control while talking in loud areas what makes our Google Glass useless in such a situation. Furthermore many consumers have complained about the weak battery, which only runs about 2 hours or 45 minutes of recording. Consequently our product is not made for workaday life. In comparison to conventional glasses our product does not have hinges...

Google Glass - Ethical or Not?

...Assignment Topic Area: Technology and Business Ethics Thesis: Should the ‘Google Glass’ be sold to the general public, or, should there be a restriction on the people who can use the device? Imagine what the world would be like with the ‘Google Glass’, a device that can be used to capture everything, even our thoughts, and it all happens without our consent. Although the glass is a revolutionary piece of innovation that allows access to information and services in a matter of seconds, it is “essentially going to allow people to come in and spy on you and record that without you knowing what’s going on”. Google claims that the glasses are designed to address this issue of privacy and “in order to activate the camera or to record the video you have to take an explicit gesture or say something out loud”. However, there are ways around this, such as developed by Mike Di Giovanni, who has came up with a way to take pictures with just a wink and hackers have also been able to run facial recognition programs on the device, where the glass can scan a face and provide information about that person. With technology like this available to the public anything can be recorded and uploaded on the Internet in a matter of minutes, therefore its use is essentially breaking ethical codes by disrespecting the privacy of others. A recent example is a video uploaded by filmmaker, Chris Barret, who secretively captured an arrest on the New Jersey boardwalk on the 4th of July 2013 and without...

Powerpoint

...1.With Google Glasses, the technology disappears from in front of you and you get data and applications in the context of what you’re doing or what you’re looking at. Want to know the weather right now? You won’t have to find the weather app and click on it to get a report. Weather apps for Google Glass will know when you’re looking up at the clouds and provide you with an instant weather report. If you’re unsure of what’s at a particular street address, look at the premises and Google Glass will tell you who’s inside, and possibly even show you the indoor plans along with a 360° panorama view if it’s a business. 2. Google Glass introduces absolutely new way of computing, with a simple, voice-driven user interface that makes a number of tasks much more intuitive. There are some examples of these: 3.
