Gop Pros And Cons

Seven years ago the GOP had a plan to destroy the legacy of newly elected President; Barrack Obama, a plan that was as ludicrous as it was myopic. Their scheme seemed simple enough, turn the American people against the Obama administration by creating so much mistrust and anger towards the federal government that the voters would fearfully come scurrying back to Republicans to save them from the now corrupt and dangerous government ran by Democrats. Unfortunately for the GOP their plan worked a little too well, as public mistrust of government exploded into full blown paranoia and all the anger Republicans had created over the years among their base was now been used against them by a silver tongued demagogue by the name of Donald J. Trump. …show more content…
Trump told Fox News on Monday

"“What kind of a system is this? “Now, I’m an outsider, and I came into the system and I’m winning the votes by millions of votes. But the system is rigged. It’s crooked.”

A last straw for many Colorado Republican voters who now say they will leave the GOP for good. One such former Republican voter, Larry Lindsey, let his anger be known by posting a video to YouTube of him burning his Republican Party Registration and pledging to never vote Republican again. In the video Lindsey proclaims,

“You’ve had it. You’re done. You’re toast. Because I quit the party, I’m voting for Trump, and to hell with the Republican Party.”

Whether you are a Trump fan or not, I think everyone can agree that the anti-establishment campaign of Donald Trump and too a lesser degree Bernie Sanders has caused a massive political shift in this country, a shift while destructive at the moment may eventually lead to a viable 3rd or even 4th party that would wrestle away the consolidated power of the elites and billionaire class and perhaps give the average American more over our now failing political

Dont Ask Dont Tell Appeal

...Don’t Ask Don’t Tell: Repeal or Not Repeal Up to now, the White House has focused on an aggressive effort to socialize our economy through the bailout of the auto industry, institution of the cap-and-trade system, various stimulus and bailout programs, and a takeover of the healthcare sector. (Bedey) Although these topics are still relevant, recently the motion to repeal “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” has become one of the most talked about subjects. Before we get into debate, one must know the basic principles of the policy and its history of origin. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Don’t Pursue, Don’t Harass” (DADTDPDH or DADT for short) is a ban on lesbians, gays and bisexuals serving in the military. DADT is the only law in the United States that authorizes the firing of an American for being gay. There is no other federal, state, or local law like it. DADT is the only law that punishes lesbians, gays and bisexuals for coming out. Many Americans view DADT as a simple agreement with discretion as the key to job security. While this is true to some extent, in the eyes of a homosexual service member, it may not be so simple. An honest statement of one’s sexual orientation to anyone, anywhere, at anytime will lead to being fired. (Service Members Legal Defense Network) DADT was the result of a failed effort by President Clinton to end the ban on gays in the military. The bill was a result of the brutal 1992 murder of Seaman Allen Shindler. Bill Clinton, a candidate at the time, proposed...

...decided by this system. Under this process, if you cast your vote for the president, you also vote for an often un-named elector who will cast a ballot in a separate election that eventually chooses the president. The main pros and cons in the debate about whether to keep or abolish the current Electoral College process. There are certain pros and cons in the debate about whether to keep or abolish the current Electoral College process. For instance, the Electoral College has hampered the democracy of United States in a manner inconsistent with current American practices. Taking for example, all voters are not given equal opportunities under the Electoral College (Bates, 2004). Even though the Electoral College inflates the victories of the winners, such as establishing their legitimacy, these victories do not give presidents liberated ride in Congress, where their party may be in the minority or the politicians may not think that Electoral College landslide should be treated the same as a genuine popular majority landslide (Yale University Press, 2004). Taking for example, President Ronald Reagan won an Electoral College landslide in 1980 and faced substantial resistance from the Democratic House of Representatives in his term. However, the main pro for not abolishing the current Electoral College process is that it enhances an opportunity for fair voting and choosing leaders. For example, results of the most votes are not guaranteed to stand because the presidential election...

Should Minim Wage Increase

...Should minimum wage increase? “The bottom line is that five million low-income Americans working full time for minimum wage, deserve a raise,” says Jim Clyburn. The argument that has continued for years is whether the American federal government should increase the minimum? The two opposing sides on this argument are the Republicans and the Democrats. The Democrats are for minimum wage to increase, unlike the Republicans, who are against it and think of it as a job killer. There are many reasons why the Democrats are for the increase of minimum wage. Currently, there are approximately 3.8 million people who are working at minimum wage or below it. Fewer than one in four minimum wage workers are teenagers and more than half are 25 or older. (Dickinson) If minimum wage were raised to $10.10 it would trim payrolls by less than one-third of one percent, which would help approximately one million Americans out of poverty. It has been proven by the Congressional Budget Office that the raise will not affect the number of jobs as much as people think, and the increase will accomplish more than just harmful situations. There should have been a consistent raise in minimum wage from 1968 to now, but there has not been. The federal government minimum wage should be close to $20 an hour. Tax money could potentially fund less food stamps, welfare, and other financial support for this to occur. A family of four trying to be successful and build their family is living on the earnings of being...

Health Care Reform

...Yolanda Johnson HCA-255 February 21st, 2014 Prof: Deborah Conway Health Reform Why the Clinton Health Reform Plan never passed in the 1990”s Possibly the Clinton organization's utmost error was unwarranted determination. The strategy struggled instantaneously to protect worldwide insurance coverage, controlling the isolated coverage market, changing health care funding through a company requirement, regulate prices to planes imposed by a nationwide health panel, and change the provision system through managed care. In the least any one of these ideas alone was going to be difficult to achieve, and even though there is a practical validation for taking all of them on at one time, it would prove to be an administrative double-crossing task. Without a doubt, each element of the Clinton plan stimulated conflict (Joanathan Oberlander, 2007). The National Federation of Independent Business strongly was against the business obligation. The Health Insurance Association of America struggled against coverage guidelines and federally enforced price controls. Congressional Republicans criticized the whole design, including the health agreements, as being too much “big government.” The organization's hold on to the proficient opposition of health care system change separate well-insured, middle-class Americans (Joanathan Oberlander, 2007). The Clinton organization both overestimated the opposition and misjudged the support for reform. The organization did not organize any planned constituency...

Essay On Primaries And Caucuses

...Currently, my favorite candidates are Ben Carson, Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio. Each of these candidates is preferred by a different broadcasting network; Carson being NBC, Trump being ABC, Fiorina being CNN, Cruz being FOX News, and Rubio being NBC. Each candidate has their pros and cons. These come into effect during debates, and more importantly, the final election. I will start with my favorite, Ben Carson. There is a tremendously reliable level of enthusiasm from grassroots conservatives for Dr. Ben Carson, the sort that Mitt Romney would have loved to buy in 2012. He's notable and lends credibility to the healthcare debate. He is additionally one who failed to position himself for a run, and the likelihood has organically evolved. He additionally has no drawback connecting with devout voters, a tremendous obstacle of the GOP candidates in each 2008 and 2012. He has never run a political crusade or been a candidate for place of business, so it is rough to say how he would participate in, though predominant debates would style that out. Net Neutrality

...The idea of net neutrality has been around since the invention of the telegram and telephone system. This idea of neutrality led to the passage of the Communications Act of 1934 which regulates telecommunications by prohibiting preferential treatment and unfair consumer costs (The Communications Act of 1934). However, the term “net neutrality” as it pertains to the internet was first used by Tim Wu in 2003 in his article “Network Neutrality, Broadband Discrimination” (Wu, 2003). In March of 2005, the concept became more well known when the internet service provider (ISP) Madison River Communications was caught blocking all of its subscribers from using a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) service called Vonage. The company blocked this service because their own telecommunications service was competing against Vonage’s lower prices, made possible by utilizing customers’ internet connections instead of telephone lines (Ante & Crockett, 2005). Vonage made a complaint to the FCC, and Madison River Communications had to pay a $15,000 fine (Regan, 2005). Later in 2005, the FCC released an internet policy statement, which outlined support for an early version of net neutrality. This statement was meant to “encourage broadband deployment and preserve and promote the open and interconnected nature of the public Internet” by adopting the following principles: • allowing consumers access to the lawful internet content of their choice, • allowing consumers access to run applications...

What Makes Us so Different? Understanding Political Ideology Through Partisanship

...Govt-2301-WS3 What makes us so different? Understanding Political Ideology through Partisanship People today think that it doesn’t matter how you vote, the outcome will always be the same because the Democratic and GOP parties are run by corporations. Some think that in order to break away from the special interests and influences, there should be a strong third party and that party with a different platform is the Libertarian Party. Historically the main two parties were not much different. In the beginning both parties believed that “men (not big government) was to rule them” (The Fundamental Differences Between Republican and Democrats). There was a mutual desire for individual freedom. Currently it seems that their fundamental beliefs have changed. The Democratic Party wants to increase government involvement in the lives of the American public, whereas the Republicans would like to see decreased national government and have each state govern themselves (The Fundamental Differences Between Republican and Democrats). The Libertarians seem to want to get back to what the founding fathers envisioned. Each party has very strong convictions on the topics that confront America today. The hottest topic facing the nation is Same Sex Marriage. Since the beginning the Democrats have defended Civil Rights and supported the expansion of opportunities for all. They fight to end all forms of discrimination, but this is an uphill battle. “We support marriage equality...
