Austin, Texas 78711

Dear Senator Davis,

Upon your decision to run for Governor of the great state of Texas, I was compelled to write to you concerning your stance on the issue of abortion and how this may impact women’s lives statewide if you become Governor in 2014. Your efforts to support pro-choice activists were reflected on June 25, 2013 when you filibustered to block Texas Senate Bill 5 from passing. This bill was undertaking the challenge of banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, requiring hospital-style medical care, and demanding better healthcare for women wanting an abortion. Nonetheless against all odds, you stood for 11 hours non-stop on your quest to stall the passing of this bill.

Here’s where the rubber meets the road, you made statements such as, “I am pro-life, the goal that we should have is that we see zero abortions, and when I believe women’s health is in danger, I’m going to stand and fight to protect that.” These statements were reported by The Valley Morning Star. With all due respect, this is an attempt to confuse and deliberately mislead voters to be desensitized from your June filibuster. You are trying to be perceived as a moderate candidate. This tactics have also been seen from former President Bill Clinton in 1996 when he said abortion “should not only be safe and legal, it should be rare.” The positions that were made in these statements don’t reflect reality, and this is my biggest concern.

You are trying to wipe your hands clean from your ill intentions with your filibuster. How can you say you will stand and protect women’s health when it’s in danger, if it already was in June 25, 2013 and you were trying to stop safer conditions? The abortion industry is booming with business, however their services aren’t high-quality. Women are mistreated during the procedures, some end up infertile after an abortion, and many women are psychologically scarred for life. Technically, the bill still allowed for abortion to take place, but it was making it safer. You say you care about women’s health being in danger, and the bill supported that. Yet, you were against the bill, because it would reduce the number of abortion clinics. You were saying that it’s better to have many unsafe abortions, instead of fewer abortions under safer conditions. Although, no abortion method will ever be 100% safe or 100% fail-proof.

I’m trying to understand your mindset as you are an abortion advocate, but you have contradicted yourself. You’ve said that you began fighting this battle over women’s healthcare in 2011, when you say that there was a reduction for women’s healthcare decreasing women’s access for health care access for more than 160,000 women that included family planning, sexual education, and abortions. Texas had banned state funds for abortion, and consequently $200 million of federal funds that were originally for women’s healthcare without abortion were denied, according to The New Republic. In Planned Parenthood’s annual report, it was reported that they received $487.4 million in tax dollars. The kind of “healthcare” that you support was getting federal funds and there never was a reduction in that kind of “healthcare.” It was the programs like the Texas Women’s Health Program (WHP) that weren’t getting the federal funds, because it didn’t have abortions in its clinics. While, it is said that Planned Parenthood provides vital health examinations like breast and cervical screenings, treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, and contraception, everyone knows their main concentration is abortion. Programs like WHP are indispensable, because they genuinely provide healthcare for women in Texas.

It’s mind boggling that you even support abortion. An unborn child is a living human being with equal right to a living human being. At just 6 weeks from conception, the unborn fetus does have a beating heart and it can be heard by ultrasound. North Dakota already banned abortions as early as 6 weeks once heartbeat of the unborn child can be detected. If a heartbeat, which is a sign of life isn’t conclusive evidence, what is? You also say this isn’t a battle you chose, but why make a deal with the devil just to get votes and hurt innocent life along the process?

Texas has been a superb role-model for the rest of America in the effort to make abortion almost obsolete. Don’t forget Texas is under the Bible belt. Thanks to honorable leaders like Gov. Rick Perry, who have embraced innocent life. Texas needs that right kind of leadership moving forward. You forgot to mention that your promises to care about the life of every child only applied to the living. I respectfully urge you to allow Texas to continue to esteem innocent unborn life, and to not lead a new culture of unnecessary deaths whether its as you being Senator or Governor. Give Texans peace of mind with your actions not words, and stop lying to us. We know the games you play.

I thank you and acknowledge the great work you perform everyday for the state, and for taking your valuable time to listen to the voices of Texans.

With great respect,

British Inheritance

...are really just the ideas of the English 'country party' put into action in British colonies. This is an achievement, to be sure, but it is in no way an especially or exceptional American achievement." There are many sources of influence for America’s ideals of liberty, freedom, and democracy in the modern world. Such as Democracy of ancient Greece, The Republic of ancient Rome, and the writings of Baron de Montesquieu. Many of these sources are distinctly English such as English common law, The Magna Carta. In regards to the specific comment above we look at the ‘Country Party’ and ‘The Cota Letters’. As an American I would like to think that our founding fathers’ have created something new and completely unique in t our country, however my readings have lead me to the understanding that the founding fathers had several sources of inspiration as to how to form and what kind of government to form in these states, united. The “Country Party” as mentioned in the quote above, is of particular importance to the ideas of Democracy, liberty, and freedom. The Country Party was especially inspired by political theorist, writer and philosopher Henry St John, 1st Viscount Bolingbroke. Bolingbroke’s ideology was that of opposing the problems he saw with the current political climate in Great Britain The Country Party also harkens back to the writings of the seventeenth century writings of Harrington and Sidney. It was made up of Tories and unhappy Whig’s who sought to change the political...

Bureaucracy

...UREAUCRACY: WEBER’S THEORY The literal meaning of bureaucracy is “rule by desks or offices, or government with a small desk.” A bureaucracy comprises of a great number of non-elected government officials that are concerned with administrative work and policy-making. Many big organizations and governments depend on bureaucracies to operate; they need consistent rules and procedures. Governmental agencies such as homeland security demonstrate best how bureaucrats function and what they do. (Blau, 1956) During the time of the great German sociologist Max Weber (1864-1920), organizations were run in a casual manner. Max Weber searched for means to create a more official structure in organizations. According to him, organizations that were run like families were less successful because authority was misplaced. He believed that workers were loyal to their superiors as opposed to organizations. Organizations that are more structured, authoritative, and rigid were Max Weber’s ideal of a fully rational bureaucracy; he imagined them to be that way. His ideal organizations were those that were able to turn regular workers into coherent decision makers that will serve clients with fairness and competence. According to Weber, the following are characteristics of a fully rational bureaucracy: (Weber, 2009) Hierarchy: a clear-cut chain of command characterizes the level of power within organizations. People who occupy positions of authority will oversee and guide those who hold lower...

How Did James Oglethorpe Want To Ban Slavery In The United States

...Oglethorpe decided to ban liquor and slaves. The settlers did not like the idea and demanded their rights of self-government. Oglethorpe repealed the bans on liquor and slaves by the early 1750's. Even though liquor and slavery were banned at some point some settlers actually wanted both to stay banned. In 1733 rice cultivation was developed by philanthropists led by James Oglethorpe. What he wanted to create was a colony with "worthy poor" where England is able to find economic opportunities. While the British colony wanted the colony to be defensive against the Spanish and their allies (Indians) in Florida. By 1740 colonists were looking forward to appealing the English liberty of self-government to be able to own slaves. The 18th century Great Britain was proud of its self for being advanced and being the freest nation in the world at the time. Most British people shared a common law, language, and a common enemy in France and believed that wealth, religion, and freedom was the way to go. Road to Revolution Essay

...that Texas did have a right to begin a revolution against Mexico. The Mexican officials and land commissioners didn’t stay true to their promises (laws). The first Mexican official we learned about was Haden Edwards. He was a Kentucky businessman who enraged many settlers in Texas when he threatened to sell the land of the settlers who didn’t have a land title, even if their family had been living on the land for years. After his contract was canceled by the Mexican government, Benjamin Edwards (his brother) started the Fredonian Rebellion. The huge amount of interest in the revolt worried the Mexican government, so they decided to send Mier y Teran to Texas so he could investigate conditions there, find out how much control Mexico had, and to give recommendations about how to change the conditions. His recommendations to the president convinced the Mexican government to pass the Law of April 6, 1830, which changed rules on immigration and trade in Texas. Instead of strengthening Mexico’s control, the Law of April 6, 1830 angered many settlers who wanted their family and friends to move to Texas and who feared the restrictions would hurt the economy. Francisco Madero approved land titles for settlers in the Anahuac settlement until Bradburn arrested him; saying that Madero was working illegally (according to the Decree of April 6, 1830), which angered many Texans. George Fisher, a customs official, demanded that all ships landing in Texas pay their customs duties at Anahuac...

Desiring to explore the island for food and spice, Legazpi ordered some of his men to move further on the Island until they run out of bread to eat. Tired and hungry, the Spaniards solicited something to eat from the natives. To their surprise, they were given a container full of brown rice. When the Spaniards asked the natives what kind of rice they gave, they politely replied, “ba-hay,” meaning, a third class rice. In recognition of the generosity of the natives, they named the place, “Panay y bahay” – the place in Panay where there was and the Spaniards were given “ba-hay” rice. These groups can be business and industry, labor, professional, consumer, environmental, social, or religious.
