My life’s direction and purpose has not always been clear, but more of a muddled path with multiple turns, bumps, and progress along the way. Pursuing higher education and continuously developing new skill sets have always been personal objectives for me. I have learned through my life lessons the basic value of self-improvement. An MBA would enhance my capability to independently assess multiple situations, develop a rational plan and execute the plan. Obtaining an MBA will present new opportunities for me to figure out where I want to work and study. My success in life will be enhanced when I complete an MBA and pursue a new professional career path.
As an undergraduate student, I majored in biochemistry. I believed having a scientific background would give me the skill set to lead me wherever I wanted to go in life. However, by the time I entered my junior year I was in serious doubt regarding my degree decision and my passion for biochemistry. After discussing my options with my parents, we came to an agreement that I would finish my degree because it would give me a solid foundation with a technical education. The biochemistry curriculum exposes participants to high levels of proficiency in math, logic, and problem solving. Additionally, the curriculum promotes the development to work independently and think creatively about potential solutions. I finished my degree but continued to feel very sceptical about pursuing higher education because I wanted to make sure I chose a field of study where I would enjoy and be self-motivated to want even more for myself. I also realized I wanted to continue using my technical background I received with my undergraduate degree but did not want to purse a higher education solely in biochemistry. The following two years after graduation I had a unique mix of work experience which exposed me to a broad range of businesses. I maintained 3 different part-time jobs; 1) a group fitness instructor and teacher for a private gym, 2) an analyst for a Brazilian base specialty lubricant company, and 3) a utility clerk at Wells Fargo Advisors. I learned the value of maintaining and developing personal relationships. I have learned the successful management of any business is dependent on understanding all facets of the business. An MBA will use a curriculum mixed with marketing, finances, leadership as well as other areas I did not learn with my undergraduate studies. Regardless of the professional career path I ultimately choose, I need to broaden my knowledge in these areas.
Since graduation and moving to Houston I have had the opportunity to start building a foundation for my life. I purchased my first brand new car and was able to pay it off within 15 months. My dad also helped me start my first personal IRA account. Continuing contributions to the IRA and other personal savings will allow me to have financial stability later on in life. Having the ability to learn about saving, taxes, and financial stability spurred an interest in learning more. Learning how to manage my personal finances led me to realize the need for additional education. I know this is a skill set I want to build on for my future. I found even more motivation and desire to achieve my MBA when I reunited with a childhood friend. My friend was in the same situation as me; she had graduated with a degree in literature but did not want to pursue it in higher education. She entered in a MBA finance program where she learned the fundamentals of business management. Her degree and hard work landed her a job at a major international oil company as a contractor trader. Within the year she moved into a permanent marketing representative position. Her drive to pursue higher education and a new skill set has landed her a position she enjoys and continues to push her to reach new goals. I soon realized her story is my story; I have the direction, drive, desire and the general skill bases to achieve my goals and objectives.
I want to take the education I learn from the MBA program and apply it to the management of my personal and professional life. I recognize the value of committing to continuous improvement in all of my future pursuits. I am also aware there will be challenges and opportunities while pursuing an MBA, but studying new subject matter will strength my own self confidence in my ability to manage changes and new situations. I want to benefit from the goals I am seeking for my future. The greater my long term time perspective becomes, the easier it is to set short and long term goals and have more control over how my life turns out. It has taken me time to define my personal goals, however, this will allow me to better manage my time, and be persistent when things get tough. I have my goals set and my path is marked. An MBA will not do the work for me but it will open doors that will lead me to my future, personal motivation, overall goals, and dreams.

Why You Should Consider Trade School Instead Of College Summary

...CONSIDERING TRADE SCHOOL AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO COLLEGE The only conclusion that can be arrived at once reading the article “Why You Should Consider Trade School Instead of College” is that trade school delivers the most lucrative incentives for students. The incentive of this paper is to provide a synopsis of the reading. The compelling considerations the writer presents are derived from comprehensively offering comparisons and analysis. Coincidentally, such key factors: cost of tuition comparison, graduating challenges and percentages, length of time used to acquire a degree, and finally, the potential economic conditions with respect to the article where critically presented. The writer developed a targeted argument to underscore that while it was commendable and not only justifiable to attend a traditional four year college, there is more reason to justify trade school as the main choice to develop a career. Interestingly, the writer presents an argument that while options for future development are restricted due to the targeted vocational nature of trade school education as opposed to that of traditional college options. Coincidentally, it is within this context that the writer identifies the singularity of purpose behind why such a consideration is the most lucrative and the only reasonable considerable conclusion. Now that the paper has briefly introduce a synopsis into the context of the reading it will now develop and reinforce support for its position by relating the...

Personal Statement

...We began our interview and I listened intently while Ms. Bakutis told me of all the wonderful opportunities Morris Graduate College has to offer. We discussed which program may work best for me, location, and financial aid. As we were closing out the interview Ms Bakutis opened a black folder shaped like an elegant envelope and pulled out papers that needed to be returned as soon as possible. She then alerted me that classes would begin on December 2nd, 2013, so it would be beneficial to me to get started as soon as possible. The final thing Ms. Bakutis told me as we wrapped up our meeting is that I would need to submit a personal statement along with two letters of recommendation. Whoa!!!!! At that moment everything stopped. I need to write a personal statement? Wow!!! I’ve never written a personal statement. Am I really ready for this? These were just some of the thoughts running through my mind. I went into panic mode as my mind started racing. Aaaww man, I have to write a paper to get into the Master’s Program? Shoot!! What would I write about? Will this really determine whether the school will accept me or not? I haven’t written a paper since I was in the BSW program at Governors State University. Then I thought, forget it, I’m not doing this. There were so many thoughts going through my...

...Two IIM-A grads shun Rs 1-cr offer AHMEDABAD: Declining pre-placement offers is nothing new for students of Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad, but declining the highest offers ever made in the institute has raised more than a few eyebrows. Two of the six second-year post-graduate programme students of IIM-Ahmedabad who were offered the position of associates by Deutsche Bank, declined it despite their salaries, in rupee terms, was more than Rs 1 crore. Debashish Chakravarty, one of the two students who refused the offer said, "I declined the offer because I wanted to be on my own." The challenge of entrepreneurship was more exciting for him than taking up a cushy job. "Three other classmates and I have planned to start our own business. We plan to start production and retailing of women's lingerie," said Chakravarty, who was serving in the Army before taking voluntary retirement. Vineeta Singh, who too rejected the Deutsche Bank offer will be joining Chakravarty, along with Bhushan Dabir and Vishal Prabhu Khan-olkar. "We did a detailed market research on women's lingerie and found huge customer dissatisfaction. We have a business plan ready," said Chakravarty. "The financing of the project is being negotiated with venture capitalists and if everything goes as per plan we hope to be in the market with our product by next year," Chakravarty said. High School Graduates Should Take a Year Off Before College

...High school graduates should take a year off before entering college. Anna Swain Dr. Anne Marie Keyes Critical Thinking - PHI 210 March 11, 2012 The purpose of my paper is to convey my thoughts regarding High School graduating students taking a year off before entering college. Many parents and students have mixed feelings concerning this topic of discussion; therefore, my main audience will be focused towards the parents and these graduating seniors. I hope to present a clear, understandable, and convincing overview of the college “Gap” year alternative. As students, we have all looked forward to graduating from high school and beginning our college life. Parents have worked hard and hopefully saved towards this next step in their child’s life. However, if you have graduated and have your high school diploma in your hands; you may begin to wonder if college is right for you, just now. Not every high school graduate goes to college and maybe you don't feel ready for college, and maybe a year off would be the right thing for you. According to collegeboard.com, “many students do go straight to college after graduation, but some students do take a year off to pursue an interest or just to take a break from school, they do this by taking a gap year, a year off, a deferred year, or just plain time off;” they should, however, use this time wisely and not waste the year. Parents also wonder if it's worth taking a year...

Impact of Financial Education on High School

...The Impact of Financial Education in High School and College On Financial Literacy and Subsequent Financial Decision Making by Lewis Mandell Kermit O. Hanson Visiting Professor of Finance and Business Economics Foster School of Business, University of Washington Senior Fellow, Initiative on Financial Security, Aspen Institute Presented at the American Economic Association Meetings San Francisco, CA January 4, 2009 The Impact of Financial Education in High School and College On Financial Literacy and Subsequent Financial Decision Making Abstract: Many consumers appear to lack the financial literacy needed to make financial decisions in their self-interest. A growing number of analysts and politicians are blaming the intersection of low levels of financial literacy with complex, financially-engineered products for the current economic meltdown and have proposed a number of solutions to this problem. These solutions range from mandatory education in personal finance to required simplification of financial products and greatly increased regulation. This paper examines evidence on the effectiveness of personal finance education on both financial literacy and financial behavior. If the problem can be solved through education, it is likely to reduce the perceived need to limit choice in the marketplace for retail financial products. If education is shown to be ineffective, the future of financial product innovation and financial engineering may be greatly limited. Supporting...

Gre Method

...10 Steps to Earn a High GRE Score The following is a guide to scoring high on the GRE test. If you follow these steps, your GRE score will improve. 1. Relax: Preparing for the GRE can be stressful. Try to focus on the task at hand and not so much on everything else you have to do. If you take GRE test prep step-by-step, day-by-day, and give yourself breaks when your body needs them, you'll be able to concentrate on GRE studies a lot better. 2. GRE Diagnostic Test: Begin GRE test prep with a GRE practice test to find out what you're good at, and more importantly, what you're not good at. Correct your completed practice test and evaluate the questions you missed. What kind of questions did you miss? Are they mostly Quantitative or mostly Verbal? What score would you give yourself on Analytical Writing? Did you miss a lot of analogies but do well on reading comprehension? With this information you'll be able to focus your GRE test prep studies on your weaknesses. 3. GRE Study Plan: With your GRE weaknesses in mind, make a very specific study plan for yourself. You should know what, how, and when you are going to study for the GRE test. Put your study plan somewhere in plain view, and make sure you stick to your plan. Try to keep GRE test prep interesting by planning to study different things in different ways. For example, study GRE vocabulary from flash cards one day, from a list the second day, and by reading and learning words in context the third day. 4. GRE Vocabulary: ...

...Renee tuned out and returned her attention to the window, watching a contrail extrude itself across the sky. “Mrs. Norwood?” a nurse called. “Your husband's here.” Renee gave Mrs. Rivas another polite smile and left. 1b Carl signed his name yet another time, and finally the nurses took away the forms for processing. He remembered when he had brought Renee in to be admitted, and thought of all the stock questions at the first interview. He had answered them all stoically. “Yes, she's a professor of mathematics. You can find her in Who's Who.” “No, I'm in biology.” And: “I had left behind a box of slides that I needed.” “No, she couldn't have known.” And, just as expected: “Yes, I have. Child Care Center Market Research

...Market Research Study for Pre-School venture in Lower Manhattan Introduction The price of private education in Manhattan is exponentially increasing. Over the past 10 years, the median price of first grade in the city has gone up 48%, adjusted for inflation, compared with a 35% increase nationally (NYTimes.com, 1/29/2012). Clearly there is a supply and demand crisis, with more students than seats available. Therefore, our team decided to research the possibility of launching a new pre-school in lower Manhattan. We believe there is a desirable opportunity to open a customized pre-school that serves both our own interests and parents’ current unmet needs. To give some color, below are three recent excerpts concerning the topic: “I think the nursery school admissions process is a war zone. It’s parent against parent, it’s toddler versus toddler… Parents are crazy competitive…It’s about getting in, fitting in, it’s about belonging. That’s why people sweat it.” (Parent from “Nursery University” documentary, 2007) “In an entrepreneurial city where even volatile commodities like real estate eventually find their equilibrium, the desire for private school seats has outpaced supply for many years, in some cases by an order of magnitude. “ (nytimes.com, 2010). “When the public school Pre-K selections were announced, we were denied acceptance to ALL 10 schools…out of 12 friends with kids hoping to enter Pre-K in the Fall of 2011, not ONE of them got in. ...President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations. Del Carmen, Michelle Felizardo, Miguel Moynihan, Danny Tan, Miya Yatco, Jethro August 28, 2013 A. Assessment of the Mall Retail Audit by Classification *See Appendix A Target Market Description This mall caters to a demographic of young professionals with an age ranging from 23-30 both male and female genders either single or newlyweds in the B and C socioeconomic classes.  they are the dominant demographic that the mall caters to this is reinforced by the abundance of the available condominiums within the area making the mall and the area around it a mixed use development. this ensures the inevitability of the residents of these condos, which will most likely be yuppies due to the “condo living” nature of these residences, will definitely buy from nowhere else but robinsons magnolia since it is just simply convenient to do so. Although the mall is situated in an area with quite a number of educational establishments such as LSGH and it gets a lot of visits from students that are in the area it is really still the yuppies that bring in the most business since they are the ones that have the most purchasing power. any revenue produced from the students is usually either on impulse such as an after final exam binge or the fact that it is really just the nearest place to make a purchase so the mall also leverages...

...THE ART OF CYBER WAR — ASYMMETRIC PAYOFFS LEAD TO MORE SPENDING ON PROTECTION 151 As Physical Security Converges With IT Security and Becomes More Network-Based, Can Cisco Compete? Cisco recently introduced new video surveillance IP cameras and monitoring software targeted for small businesses. As corporate security technology and services become increasingly network-delivered and database-driven, the physical security market presents a compelling incremental growth opportunity for Cisco that we believe can exceed the billion dollar annual revenue threshold in the next 35 years. The physical security industry has been undergoing a paradigm shift toward convergence, whereby previously disjointed functions of IT security and physical security are experiencing greater formal cooperation. Organizations continue to implement more IP-based video surveillance cameras and building access controls both to upgrade capabilities and to reduce operational costs. Deploying IP-based security upgrades capabilities and reduces operational costs. Through the IP network a security system can assign priority to data and automatically discover new nodes such as IP cameras and control sensors, eliminating the time and effort of manual provisioning. Shifting building access controls from isolated networks to existing IP networks that house data, voice, and video can improve incident detection and assessment, authenticating both the user and device to provide efficient integrity checks. • Video...
