In this world, ordinary people view criminals as “the bad guys”. But this does not mean that those criminals are bad people. In the book The Outsiders, it focuses on a band of outlaws called the greasers. Even though the greasers are criminals, throughout the book they make honorable decisions. So the question is raised, is there honor among the lawless. Throughout the book, the greasers protect one another, commit acts of bravery, and defend others.
For instance, the greasers stick up for or help each other. In the book, the greasers find their friend Johnny beaten in a field and all of them ran up to him to see what has happened. “Soda just held him and pushed Johnny’s hair back out of his eyes. ’It’s okay Johnnycake, they’re gone now. It’s okay’” (33). This quote shows honor among the lawless because it clearly shows that the greasers stand high with each other which is honorable. Also, considering the fact that Johnny was beaten by socs and the greasers show confidence to go up to him when anything can happen. Because Ponyboy went into the church thinking only about the kids and not at all about himself shows selflessness which is honorable.
