“Literature is a textually transmitted disease, normally contracted in childhood.”
“Literature is a luxury; fiction is a necessity.”
“Literacy is a way to know others”
As time pass, many people has many ways to describe literacy. Many of us like it and many of us don’t. Many of us think it is corruptive and many think it’s honorable, but my opinion of would be literacy is totally different than others. I think of literacy as a source, what teaches us to learn how to live and go on. I think this way because when I was very little, I got bullied. I cry every day after I came from school. Then my life responded in the way of Forrest Gump’s quote about, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.” One day I took a bite in a type of chocolate that just changed my life and bought a light. I discovered how to read. After that day, the only best friend of mine was booked. I learn to do everything from a book, it taught how to go on also, who to go with? It taught me many things. It taught me the meaning of my life and the power I have, whom I hate and whom I really trust in this big world of unknown. These books really change the view of the world from my distinct. Though the real book to affect my life and change my point of view of the world was wonder and art book.
Wonder was one of the first books I ever read. It was about a little boy who had deformed face. No one would play with him because of his deformed face. He was homeschooled, because of his face. The first time he tried to go to school and went to school. He was treated differently, more of like a monster. Whoever he wanted to talk with ran way, he was all alone. Life isn’t always fair to everyone, he would be an example. Through what I love about this book is the time didn’t stay the same all the time. Life changes through time. Like in this book there was crack, what let the light go through the main characters of the life and he was able to stand up. What made me stand up for my life, the bully in my school and let the sunshine in my life. Also, I had fun at school after that and changed the point of view of mine about school. It also changed my way of living. I was more of happy rather than being sad. That’s how literacy rips open the darkness of my mind brought me to light, to the nice world from, before. Now, I know this world always isn’t miserable when can position you self in it.
With this much of happiness, I didn’t know where to express it. I went to the library because that’s the only space I would go to pass the luxurious time of mine. Though this time wasn’t enough, I needed something else. I look through the book in the shelves. Finally, I found a book. It was the first book that caught my attention. It was an art book. It had no word. It was about a bird who didn’t know how to express its feeling, just like me. The bird was desperate and tried everything, finally found art and that’s what struck me in the spot. The bird’s perseverance and desperation towards success made me cry, and finally when the bird became an artist. It noticed many poor people that had no food. That made the bird so sad, and the bird wanted to help them but right at the moment, the bird was shot. That was the end of the story. I closed the book and sat down and started crying. I never thought there are so many poor people who have no food. I feel anger and sorrow through my veins. What lets me determined what I want to be when I grow up. I wanted to be an artist and continued to bird’s journey. I wanted to make sure although the bird was dead, it wish will still be carried. That’s how this book rips my mind and showed me the real world where many starve to death and changed my world where I thought all happiness existed.
“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope.” By Kofi Annan. It is really true, once I fell in a big hole of misery, sadness and sorrow but literacy brought me up in a world of cheerfulness, pleasure and happiness. Though it also, showed me the real world. I love literacy and I changed my point of view about the world by how cheerful it is and distressed. It also taught me many things; Many things indeed. It showed me what I can do! What I can’t! What really showed or changed my life point view are Wonder and Artbook. Like Frederick Douglass said,

“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.”
