The alarm buzzes, screaming at me that its 6am and I can no longer snuggle in my covers. I get up, toss up my hair and begin my day as a toddler wrestler, college student, full time taxi service and maid. My life may not sound glamorous to you, and majority of the time I don’t find it to be either but I make it work. I have mastered the art of shopping, cleaning, and caring for a family on only one income. This can be hard at times seeing as being a college student and parent can be finically depleting on its own. But what if I told you I have discovered some ways to keep my boyfriend’s hard earned money in my pocket; all by using some overlooked ingredients that you may have in your pantry? Now when it comes to cleaning your home I’m sure you have a product for everything. I know I use to, I had one for the bathroom, my kitchen, and one to clean everything in-between. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states “The average American family spent $639 on housekeeping supplies in 2009”, and that number has been steady rising. Many people believe that the fragrant products they are using to clean their homes are safe, but they can do more harm than good. Most cleaners contain bleach or ammonia; these chemicals can be so over powering and toxic that it is recommend you open windows before use. To my surprise there is a greener alternative to clean your home, and it only costs about 30 cents a bottle. All you need to make this great all-purpose cleaner is some water, vinegar, a few orange peels, and a spray bottle. It takes minutes to make and works just as well as Lysol or Mr. Clean products. This homemade solution is also non-toxic, which means if you spray yourself in the eye…it’s going to sting, but you won’t have to call poison control! My next go to money saving tip my seem a little strange but hear me out, use aluminum foil instead of dryer

Using Green Cleaning Products

...Using Green Cleaning Products—Facts and Myths Why should I use green cleaning products? There are a variety of reasons families should consider using green cleaning products in their homes, from health to environmental impacts. Regular household chemicals used in cleaning supplies can be harmful to your health. Consider these statistics:  A 15 year study in Oregon, comparing women who didn't work outside the home with women who did, found a 54% higher death rate from cancer in the women who stayed at home. The study suggested that chronic exposure to cleaning products played a role. (The Seventh Generation Guide to a Toxin Free Home) EPA studies of human exposure to air pollutants indicate that indoor air levels of many pollutants may be 2-5 times, and occasionally, more than 100 times higher than outdoor levels. Cleaning products and other household products are among the culprits (Environmental Protection Agency-EPA). Approximately 85,000 chemicals are in use today. According to the Breast Cancer Fund, complete toxicological screening data is available for only 7% of these chemicals, and more than 90% have never been tested for their effects on human health. (Breast Cancer Fund) Household cleaning products rank among the most toxic everyday substances to which people are exposed. Most chemical brands are not safe. Some especially toxic household cleaners include ammonia, chlorine bleach, aerosol propellants, detergents, petroleum distillates and toluene. Many of these substances...

...infantrymen climbing up on the fire step, and readied themselves to guard against a dawn raid by the enemy. Both sides carried out their respective ‘stand to' and despite the knowledge that each had prepared itself for raids or attacks timed at dawn, it was at this time that many of the planned attacks were carried out. As the light grew, this daily ritual was accompanied by the ‘morning hate'. This was when both sides relieved the tension of the early hours with indiscriminate machine gun fire, shelling and small arms fire into the mist to their front, which made doubly sure of safety at dawn. Breakfast and Weapon Cleaning Following stand to the men would have their breakfast and clean their weapons. Breakfast would be brought up in containers from the field kitchens and the weapon cleaning would be done in shifts, with only a portion of the men cleaning their weapons at any one time. Inspection Breakfast would be followed by the daily inspection by the Platoon Officer and Sergeant. Weapons would be checked to ensure that they were clean and serviceable as would the men's clothing. Often this inspection would include a ‘foot inspection' looking for signs of ‘trench foot'. Trench Foot was a medical condition peculiar to trench life. It was a fungal infection of the feet caused by cold, wet and unsanitary trench conditions. ...than my father. Since we had a housekeeper from morning to early evening hours from Monday to Friday she did most of the housekeeping chores. However my mother would always prepare breakfast and dinner for the family, according to her tribe it was her responsibility and as a wife and a mother we all expected her to do that. Over the weekends she would clean, wash cloths with her hands and prepare meals. My father would spend his time out with his friend or in the house drinking beer. As a grown up today I am in a egalitarian marriage, my husband and I share most of the house chores. If I cook then he will wash the dishes (we don’t use a dishwasher) or vise-versa. We usually do house cleaning together on Wednesday we would have light house cleaning and on Saturday we would have heavy house cleaning. Children Doing Chores

...Children Doing Chores: Are Chores Beneficial to a Child’s Development? Melissa K. Engebretsen Liberty University ENGL 101 Author Note 1928 Cypress Lane, Newton, Kansas Abstract Children doing chores has almost become a pastime in some families. In my family it is a building block for life. I use chores in our household to teach life lessons and to strengthen integrity and work performance. I also, believe that it builds a strong character and a work ethic that businesses are desperate to have out of is employees. Teaching our children the value of a dollar and the hardships that come with not earning a dollar is something all parents need to focus more of their time on. Life is not about how much money you can make or how much stuff you can have. It is about whose life you can impact. Children that lending helping hands to do chores for money or no money are children that will grow into adults that are valued in a place of business or in a firm. Children should take pleasure and enjoyment out of chores, because they need to learn that sense of accomplishment that is derived from a job well done, a chore completed and a project finished. In my paper I will touch on key points such as building character, work ethic, incentives and the value of the Spend, Save and Give system. Keywords: household, chores, character, ethic, incentives Children Doing Chores: Are Chores Beneficial to a Child’s Development? It has always been pondered by parents, grandparents, and children...

Helpful Kids

...Thinking Dr. Charles Osborne Getting the kids to help out around the house with the daily task of cleaning, laundry and doing the dishes was a nightmare. We would fight with them to the point that they would get grounded or even worse spanked. So one day my wife and I were sitting around the house talking about this and decided to true multiple different ways to get the kids involved, but without the hassle. After many attempts at all of those ways we came up with the “Hat Game”. This game proved to be a godsend and after five years we still do this every Sunday. As we were getting tired of all the uneccessary fighting and arguing with them to help us out, we slow down our yelling and showing frustration. We started to be very observant of them in what exactly made them do things without being told. As we watched we could see that they were very competitive kids. They always wanted to win at everything they did, especially between each other. We tried to figure out how to use this natural competiveness to our advantage and try to overcome this controversy. As we continued to define and evaluate the problem of the kids helping out with the chores, we failed lots of times. The kids would start fighting and then nothing would get done, except for me getting mad and just telling them to go to their rooms, leaving my wife and I to do all the cleaning. Some of the questions we asked each other were; how do we get them to enjoy and understand why we need to clean...

...1978, “Girl” teaches the lessons of a typical Caribbean woman in her short literary pieces. Kincaid’s story explicitly defining the roles of a woman in a manner to Kincaid’s may appear sexiest and seem to limit what a woman cannot do. However, Kincaid’s piece empowered allots various degrees of power, freedom and control to woman. In the story, a mother was giving her daughter advice about life, cooking, cleaning, men, and keeping up her reputation. Firstly, the mother stressed on woman and ferminity. She said “ this is how you iron your father’s Khaki pants so that they don’t have crease; this is how grow okra-far from the house, this is how you sweep a corner; this is how you sweep a whole house, this is how you sweep a yard” (14). Here the she meant that ferminity means hard work but not just makeup and high heels but rather cleaning the house; keeping the house nice and neat. Accoording the mother being a woman synonymous with keeping a house clean and wants to pass it from generation to generation. Although ironing, preparing food, and house cleaning are traditional feminine roles and may seem insignificant, it should be not be forgotten that these roles cannot be ignored as a woman in Caribbean culture and some part of the world. The mother seems to be serious on telling her daughter on how to do those house chores which is a good behavior. Because a typical Caribbean woman will think a household will not flourish if a woman will think is not there...
