From the early 1990s, the company had several policies in place for environmental compliance, energy, waste disposal, etc. Subsequently, it introduced several policies from time to time for forest management, sustainable use of natural resources, environmental practices of vendors, etc. The five year vision of the company for 2000-2005, and 2005-2010 also addressed the initiatives taken by the company to being environmentally responsible.

K-C started reporting its environmental initiatives in the early 2000s and the first sustainability report was published in 2003. Sustainability 2015 goes beyond reducing K-C’s footprint impact. It sets forth their vision to create essential products in a sustainable way that improves lives and the planet we all share.

Sustainability 2015 goals by KC : * 25 percent reduction in manufacturing water use * 100 percent wood fiber from certified suppliers * 5 percent absolute reduction in greenhouse gases * Zero waste to landfills

As part of KC’s strategy to grow responsibly, sustainable business practices are woven into the fabric of it’s Global Business Plan with clearly-articulated, ambitious metrics for all business units.
Consumer Tissue business has prioritized responsible fiber use ; environmental improvements to packaging; sustainability partnerships with key customers; and reduced carbon emissions and water use.

Personal Care business focuses on building partnership with environmentally progressive customers; developing environmentally sound products; manufacturing efficiency; and solid waste management

Kimberly-Clark Professional aims to reduce waste and use of natural resources and be a leader in responsible fiber use.

Health Care business is aligning its sustainability efforts with those of its customers in the areas of waste management, health and safety, and infection prevention.
From raw materials through manufacturing processes, even supply chain, KC building sustainability into every facet of how they work.
As a major user of forest resources and water, KC support organizations that help manage these resources in a responsible and sustainable way.
In June 2012, KC laid out a bold vision to significantly reduce its forest fiber foot print, including a goal to transition to atleast 50 percent wood fiber sourced from natural resources to alternate fiber sources by 2025.
To reduce it’s forest foot print , KC is pursuing high potential fiber alternatives innovative product solutions such as : * Plants that make efficient and sustainable use of land and resources with the desired intent not to displace food crops or lead to loss of natural forests ( tissue with 10% bamboo and 90% recycled fiber)

* “Waste” fibers that are currently discarded or considered of low value such as agricultural crop remnants that remain in the field after harvesting (wheat straws)
To ensure it understands and responsibly manages the impact of its decisions, KC has commissioned a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and broader sustainability risk assessment with the Georgia Institute of Technology.
