1. If you were Sam Greene, how would you respond to the first reports of contaminated spinach? Be specific as to the actions you would take.

My first reaction if I was Sam Greene would be worry and concern about my product. Once the initial shock had passed, I would begin to investigate beginning with the FDA. I would call them and begin a series of questioning. I would ask where the contaminated spinach came from, which farm, do they know the specific processor, and which area or region the contaminated spinach originated. Once I had gathered the information, I would arrange some kind of meeting with the local stakeholders. This would allow me to discuss which companies produced the contaminated spinach.

2. What factors would you consider and how would you make your decision? To whom are your primary obligations?

I would arrange for an audit of the Greene company that would check the spinach specific to the Greene farm. This could be done through an independent consulting company, like Fresh Express, so that we could ensure they would be impartial and give accurate results.

3. How would you respond to this new information? Be specific as to the actions you would take.

My first course of action would be to contact GRT Salads. This would allow me to find if they still want to purchase spinach from my farm. I would also contact the owners of the surrounding harvest fields.

4. What actions would you take regarding the spinach products you market through Tossed Fresh?

I would contact Tossed Fresh in order to get any information about the E. Coli outbreak. I would ask questions like “Is the packing machine contaminated?” I would also ask about the transport of the spinach itself to ensure it complies with safety guidelines.

5. What actions would you take in regard to the other crops you

...Aurora Salinas Eng. 1302.33 Stuart Greene writes a realistic fiction in Argument as Conversation: The Role of Inquiry in Writing a Researched Argument (2001). In this article, Greene discusses how an argument is not a dispute, but rather an ongoing discussion that can include the historical context hidden behind it and that engaging in and then leaving said argument does not mean that it will be over. He presents his opinion in framing and research as inquiry, cites other authors, and writes Argument as Conversation the way he is describing it in the first place. He explains the importance of using sources and the necessity of doing so in order to have a basic understanding of how to effectively argue a point. Greene intends the audience to be students barely going into college and have yet to learn how to debate in an academic setting. In my opinion, this article is perfect for the incoming freshmen students that do not know how to argue efficiently. It shows how to write, read, research, structure, and overall make better an argument. But I feel like there is nothing that can help a more experienced student. The article does not introduce anything new with how to argue a point. It is very basic and therefore, useless to those experienced students looking for new ways to debate a certain point. He disliked sports and was often truant from school in order to read adventure stories by authors such as Rider Haggard and R. M. Ballantyne. These novels had a deep influence on him and helped shape his writing style. The recurring themes of treachery and betrayal in Greene's writing stem from his troubled school years where he was often tormented for being the headmaster's son. After several suicide attempts, Greene left school one day and wrote to his parents that he did not wish to return. This culminated in his being sent to a therapist in London at age fifteen (Greene). His analyst, Kenneth Richmond, encouraged him to write and introduced him to his circle of literary friends which included the poet Walter de la Mare. ...Dreaded Darkness “The End of the Party” by Graham Greene is a short story about fear. A young boy named Francis Morton has an extreme phobia of darkness. Although his twin brother Peter continuously tries to comfort his brother’s fear, there is little he can do. Francis reminds his mother, nanny, and peers of his terrible fear throughout the story, but they all excuse it and believe it to be silly. Tragically, undermining his terrible fear has a price. The first example of fear in the story is when Francis tries to excuse himself from the party he is supposed to attend later that afternoon. He knows that if he goes he will be forced to play hide-and-seek in the dark and he is afraid. Francis fakes an illness and although he does not have an illness, he still feels sick from fear. Greene writes, “It was true he felt ill, a sick empty sensation in his stomach and a rapidly beating heart, but he knew the cause was only fear” (183). The extent of Francis’s fear is beginning to be revealed. Both his nanny and his mother encourage him to go to the party. They do not realize the seriousness of his fear, nor do they question his resistance to his attendance at the party. His fear is beyond himself and it affects his physical being as well.
