Group Reflection

As a member of this group, I think everyone was treated with respect and that was one of the key attributes of that group. This allowed everyone to feel comfortable enough to express their voices and opinions. With the artefact project, we were all able to provide input and all of our individual ideas were taken considerably and never turned away. There have been times where the group would get distracted during workshops however I think it allowed all of the members to become comfortable with one another and we always completed our work in the end. From the formation of this group, we formed strong friendships which allowed us to excel in the group project.
Some of the groups most difficult moments would have to have been focusing on the task at hand. When we would meet up to discuss our group artefact project, too many distractions got in the way of actually getting sufficient work done. This resulted in the group having to rush everything dangerously close to the due date. This released stress and members were increasingly getting frustrated with one another. These distractions include phones, other assignments, chatting, and people having to leave early. To prevent this next time from happening, it could be suggested that we start the project as early as possible so that it can be completed whilst it is still fresh in our minds and when we have time and motivation to do it.
During the presentation time, I was quite surprised with the way my group presented our project to the class. Many of the group members were worried that what we had wasn’t enough material however other members made sure to reassure everyone that we were going to be okay. My group always found a way to remain calm which is a memorable attribute of the team.
During this experience, I learnt that each and every person can bring forward a part of them that is very useful to the end result. I learnt that being a part of a group brings responsibility and having to be responsible for my contribution to the group gave me motivation to complete my given tasks on time. The major benefit of working in a team for me was that it facilitated learning and enhanced my understanding of the project. Reflecting on the team experience has helped me to develop a better understanding my own strengths and weaknesses in a team.
If this unit could be taken again, the improvement this group could have made during the project is probably time management. Due to everyone’s busy schedules, it was difficult to meet up as one whole group to work effectively on the given task. It took a lot of time at each meeting to decide what we needed to do that day and what we needed to do for the next meeting. If our time was managed more efficiently, I believe that the end result could have reached a higher mark.
What I liked about this project was the effort gone into creating a phylogeny for a mythical species. It worked my imagination and gave a little fun into learning.

Group Meeting Reflection

...A reflection is learning, based on past events; to enable future events to be better. Within this essay I will be critically evaluating my and the groups’ preparation leading up to the debate, looking at things we done well and that can be implemented in the future when I am doing group work again, but also looking at things that the group could have done better in order to improve performance in the future. At the beginning when the groups were decided my group firstly considered creating a Facebook group chat so that we can all communicate with each other in a practical and efficient way. All group members agreed that this would be the best way to communicate with each other. This was used as our main method of communication for organising meetings and discussing the debate. Having thought about this I think that this was a good aspect to get right at the start it...

Inter-Professional Learning Reflection on Group Process

...AHP -3-503 -Inter-professional Learning Reflection on group process Reflection summary Following completion of the above unit, I reflected on the group process (comprising 10 members of students from various allied health professions), considering my role in the group, how I related to others and the group in relation to the relevant theory. I have written this reflection using John’s Model For Structured Reflection (2000). Looking in During this unit, each group was given a task to design a campaign to raise awareness about the allied health professions, to be pitched at those who were in primary and secondary education and also to graduates. This was then to be presented to some of the other groups at the end of the unit. We began by discussing and sharing our ideas within our group. Reflecting back over this unit, I was quite aware of how the group of ten did appear quite large to begin with, and I felt it was difficult at times for everyone to have their say, including myself. I did feel that I held back on saying some of my ideas, partly because initially I did not feel comfortable sharing them in a group of people I didn’t know very well and felt that I was lacking a bit of confidence to speak up. There were some members who spoke more than others, which I was expecting, but I did feel that everyone was trying to make a contribution and felt happy that everyone was been given an opportunity to speak and share ideas. As we got to know each other better, I...

Group Reflection

...What I like about the group members functioning were their courage to talk about their issues in front of a room full of strangers, even the two new people. For example, when the speaker asked if there were anyone in the room that would like to share their story with the group one of the new ladies asked to share. She stated that she was physically abused as a child by her grandfather and abandon by her mom. She started drinking to cope with the abuse at age 9. She said she drunk to numb the pain. She stated that throughout her life she continued to drink when things got tough for her. She used drinking as her coping mechanism. It was a very sad and even brought tears to my eyes. I really felt her pain. The group members interacted with each other in a respected way and even console each group member when they started crying. It was like looking at a small family. The significant comments and feelings expressed by the group members were that they felt alone or lonely because they had no family to help them through their recovery. The speaker made sure he let them know that they were not alone and that each group member was there for them in any way that they could be. I think I heard that from at least 4 members....

Remembering The Early Years Of Parenting

...Reflection has been proven to be an excellent teacher, especially after making an emotional based decision associated with parenting. Now that I have children in the third grade, reflecting on lofty expectations followed by a short temper after my hopes were dashed says a lot about leading by example. When reviewing various writings about parenting, pairing them with reflection on past behavior, it becomes very clear many lessons can be learned. Having patience, setting realistic goals and reacting to success or failure appropriately are all great marks to be judged by. While realizing no one is perfect, understanding the difficulties and struggles parents face with their children, as discussed by experts, having an owners manual for my children could come in very handy! Because parenting in general can by difficult, many studies have found the transition from infancy to adolescence even more difficult for fathers. Because the mother has time to bond with the child, specifically through labor and breastfeeding, fathers struggle to find a place and may not have appropriate time to bond. Some studies suggest playful interactions with their children as they grow can not only help a father bond with children but also help the father find and learn his role in parenting. (Machin, A. J. (2015). Remembering the early years of parenting, more...

Reflective Practice

...(Deakin, 2010) Reflective practice highlights the importance of learning from experiences after thinking about it and relates the practical experiences to the theoretical learning approaches (Oxbridgewriters, 2011). ...commentators and the author. Justify your own point of view regarding the importance of reflection to individual and organisational performance. In his article, “I Don't Have Time to Think!, Versus the Art of Reflective Practice”, Joseph Raelin defined the importance of reflective practice, laid down organizational strategies that encourage reflection, and called for developing the skills of reflection. Two commentators, namely Phillip DiChiara and Philip McArthur, presented contra-arguments as to the standpoint of the author on reflective practices. DiChiara's main argument evolves around the creation of a “safe space” to make reflection viable, whereas McArthur reckons the key barrier to reflection-in-action is not necessarily time but skill. Besides, he disagrees with the author on how to apply certain skills of reflection at the individual or collective levels. Philip DiChiara opines that the concept of reflective practise is essentially unknown to many practitioners. His main argument is that reflective practice can never flourish if the organization or managers do not set the stage and create an environment for reflection. He argues that managers have to facilitate the correct balance between “getting down to business” and nurturing a conducive environment for refection in order to engage their peers. In his belief, this is essentially due to the differences from group to group, within a group, and often within a topic. Failure to take into account the right balance and the...

Personal Reflection

...Personal reflections are characterized as learning through experience in gaining new insights and changed perception of self and practices. Reflection can be a difficult experience without the support and guidance of an expert (Johns, 2004). This personal reflection presents an exciting opportunity for me to consider how successful my placement in the intermediate care has been in terms of my own personal learning. By reflecting on the positive aspects of the placement, I will be able to make sense of my personal learning and apply what I have learnt into future careers. At the beginning of my placement I knew very little about intermediate care or services it provided regarding alternatives to hospital care for elderly patients. In preparation for my placement, I visited a local health center and spoke to a therapist who agreed to send me information about intermediate care service. I familiarized myself with the services that are offered by intermediate care, for instance in house provisions and therapist group run services. This helped to alleviate some of my anxiety about the placement that I experienced during my first week, reflecting on my experiences has helped. During my placement I was allocated a mentor who was a knowledgeable and professional nurse. I learnt so much from my mentor, especially what it takes to be a crucial member of a rapid response team of the intermediate care service. Shadowing the mentor gave me the opportunity to observe all the rapid...

Reflection Mgt 311

...Week Five Reflection Summary MGT/311 Week Five Reflection Summary During week five, diversity in the workplace was the primary focus of our learning objectives. Over the past 60 years, as equality and worker rights have progressed immensely, diversity in the workplace has evolved significantly as well. With this significant change in workforce demographics, managers and employees have made many adjustments to not only accommodate these changes, but find ways to increase the productivity and efficiency in the workplace (Robbins & Judge, 2011). One of the most important elements in ensuring diversity is not only embraced, but capitalized on, is awareness and understanding of its limitless capabilities. Effective managers are able to analyze their workforce accurately and utilize their strengths in a highly productive, collaborative working environment. This summary will provide an overview of the strategies managers often use to manage, monitor and ensure diversity in the workplace. First, diversity management is a way of managing others with an open mind and the ability to know the needs and differences of others. Helping new employees, who are of the minority, become part of the "team" and making sure that the co-workers are helping them will cut down on the high turnover which usually can happen with minorities. There is no reason why they shouldn't feel welcomed and comfortable to stay long-term. Showing fairness to this diverse workforce is a must and cannot...

...are at least good’ (Ofsted, 2007, p4). The aim of placement is to gain more confidence and experience of the primary school setting and the role of teachers. See specific objectives in Appendix 1. Findings: Objective 1 (See Appendix 1) was achieved although it could do with being developed. As set out in my aims every opportunity presented to engage in group work was taken. On a few occasions I worked with children of a lower ability or children that have difficulty concentrating. This was challenging as it meant that each child needed the same amount of attention and support. To keep children engaged I communicated effectively using clear and concise language. ‘Good communication at work involves being able to relate to people from different backgrounds and age groups from your own’ (Herbert and Rothwell, 2005, p76) To my surprise this was something I was good at the children all understood the task set. The problem was getting specific children to focus as explained in appendix 2. However, after a conversation with a teaching assistant some very helpful advice was given. Next time I worked with this group every child had...
