What should Reginald do?
Reginald should work because he believes that filling in for striking workers is an obligation of all members of management. To justify his actions I used two of the four classical virtues: justice and fortitude .I used fortitude because Reginald is a part of management which means that it’s his responsibility to make sure work is getting done. And, since his employees are striking he has an obligation to come into work. If he were to stay at home he is avoiding the problem and no progress is being made.
I used justice because when you’re a leader you have act and behave differently than everyone else and as a leader he is expected to pick up the slack. Reginald has to act in truth on the way things actually are and to act with fairness to all concerned. So, here’s the situation, the union workers are striking but production has to continue so he is expected to work but he still has to maintain respect and fairness for everyone involved. The parties involved include himself, his workers, and the company that employs him.
He needs to respect his workers right to strike as a union. And, if he were to interfere with his workers it wouldn’t be fair to them because they a right to strike if they believe that there working conditions aren’t suitable.
He needs to respect himself by accepting the fact he has his own personal responsibilities and that the extra money from working overtime would help his personal finances.
And, he needs to respect his company because his loyalties are to his company first not his employees, its part of being in management. And as a manger it’s his responsibility to keep everything going smoothly regardless of the union workers.
