Have you ever seen a commercial with an attractive person in it and thought to yourself, “I wish I could look like that?” Well, so have other Americans and that is what are wrong with today’s society. People feel that they need to look like a superstar to be happy. One thing that influence this thought process are popular magazines showing how people can lose weight and saying that if you’re not in perfect shape then you’re not attractive. “One body-image study found that 45 percent of men were dissatisfied with their physiques; women were only slightly less satisfied at 55 percent.”(Potter). Most people think that this only happens to females but it affects males greatly also. In today’s society women feel that they need to be 5’5” and 110 pounds to be attractive. It is reasons like this that females suffer from diseases such as anorexia and bulimia all because advertisements imply that they are not attractive. Women look at magazines like Victoria’s Secret, Playboy, and Maxim and see how guys react to those pictures and think that they need to look like this to get the same attention. So, it is pretty obvious that the majority of males are not helping this cause out at all, because they participate in the purchase of these items and act negatively towards women who do not fit this image. Although men may cause women to feel like this, women do the same exact thing to men. Every time a girl see’s a 6’0” muscular man with a six pack they get all googly over him. That makes some of the men who do not look like that feel that they have to get into better shape and take whatever drastic measures might be needed to look like this. So even though it might not be as common for men as it is for women to experience bulimia and anorexia, it is still just as likely and definitely is still existent in that nature. In the article of, My Body Is My Own Business, the author talks about how wearing traditional clothing in her country is what the women in her religious nature are supposed to wear. The author in this article feels that she doesn’t and shouldn’t have to wear what she is supposed to wear, hence the title. This article is used in relation to this paper, because it falls under the same main thesis of someone’s body being their own business. Men go around just the same as women and get hassled for their body type, whether they are too fat and not toned enough or too short and not quite that manly height that they are “meant to be”. A persons body is there own business, let them figure out how they want their body to be, and how they want to run their life in order to maintain the body that they have chosen for themselves. In the article, “we feel compelled to pursue abstract notions of beauty, half realizing that such a pursuit is futile.”(Mustafa 244). This quote means so much more then people could ever know. It means that every since anyone was a child they were taught what they should look like and how to get to that body that they should look like, so many people in public feel as though they need to make it a life’s work to get to that body that everyone talks about but few have, not knowing that it wont ever be perfect enough. Another article I felt that showed some relevance to this idea of body image was, Chicken-Hips. This article after reading it showed a more positive view of body image; the only problem is that it is not based of our country but the country of another continent. In Africa women who are skinny and bony show no attraction to the men of the region, they prefer women who are plumper and consist of more shapes. The men of this region feel that women with this added weight have more character and are considered richer in spirit and physical beauty than those who don’t; therefore they are more sought after then women who in our society are skinny and model looking, like the men in out country seek. I use this article with the intention that it is the complete opposite of what men in America want and therefore shows somewhat of a positive outlook on bodies being there own and what people want them to look like. I know the women are only characterized this way in the African region but what if the same can be with men? That would put our country into a huge heap or people being comfortable with their bodies and no more criticism or people killing themselves for the perfect body would ever happen again. From the article, “It was obvious I fell short of their ideal of beauty.”(Pigott 248). Doesn’t this always seem to happen in today’s world? People are never good enough for anyone else and people in everyday life are always falling short of the expectations of other in American society. With reading this other article is shows that this is not only happening in America but in other regions of the world also, its an epidemic that must be controlled and people must see that it is too hard and too complicated to make everyone have the perfect body or at the most make everyone comfortable with their body even when they have that so called body. The last article that was chosen to be compared to this idea was the article of, Fat and Happy? The main idea of this article throws around the idea that it is ok to be fat, and in the long run, being fat will mean that you will be happy. They have theories and other ideas that show that fat people are more generous in their giving; they are a lot less angry and possessive. They have a better loving persona and much more gentle then thin people, the thesis this author tosses around is the idea of a much better world if everyone was fat, and asks the question, wouldn’t the world be a better and kinder place, if people were fat? So, why can’t America be like this? Why does everyone have to be so skinny to be perfect? We live in such a society that everyone has to be skinny, well why don’t the public of America take this article to heart and let everyone be happy, let everyone be fat, it might make the world better, anger will not be so fluent in American and things will just be overall so much better. There are some downsides that are said by these researchers, such as, fat people live in the past so if they were to get a job, a businessman would prefer one who is crazy over one is fat because the crazy person will know about new technologies and life in the new world while the fat person is way to passive for that business. From the article, “In a fat society, no one would be forced to such humiliating secrecy. All hunger would be honest hunger.”(Schwartz 256). This quote states the fact that in a society where everyone is the same and fat or everyone is maybe even skinny then eating would not be such a chore like it is in society now, now it is an act that people try to hide because they are ashamed of eating because it means you will get fatter, in this changing society eating wont matter, everyone will do it and no one will care, it will honestly be hunger and not just eating to eat. People should truly believe that living a world that is all fat would seriously be better. This criticism and perfect body image again we see just influences women but It does in fact effect men in the same way just the same or even more dramatic in the nature because men tend to take it to the next level and make it so much more extreme then it should just to hit that goal of the perfect body and making it in societies view of the perfect body. To conclude this research essay, our society is really messed up with hoe the public and media view people as having the body that everyone else should embrace. Another big problem is that people forget when they look at all the gorgeous models that are women and all those actresses that are in the movies and beautiful according to the society, that some tend to forget that men are in the same battle as women. Men fight this same fight just as much or even more for what they want and for what they think or feel they should have according to society’s image of the beautiful body. Something needs to be done. Its not something that can be done by one person but a society as a whole must come together and just dare to be fat and dare to be out of that norm that people are supposed to be, it needs to change and it starts with each and everyone of the public and anyone reading this. It starts now, make a difference.

Living Rough By Pope Francis

...should give money to panhandlers, Pope Francis even said you should. Pope Francis said,”give without worry.” Another reason why is put yourself in their shoes. Imagine what they have to go through everyday. Also they are humans too not every homeless person is a low life bum. In The New York Times It stated that Pope francis said, “Give without worry.” My opinion is that if you are a person of faith or religion especially christianity then you should listen to the Pope. Also it is the nice thing to do. And if you think they might spend it on drugs or something there is alternative options to help. For example buy them food, give them blankets, or donate to a charity. But don’t just ignore them.Pope Francis also said, “If a glass of wine is the only happiness in their life it’s ok.”...

Dont Have Any

...For the guys: So, you like two girls. Maybe more, it sucks, torn between them, not knowing which one to go for, right? The bad idea is to go for both (or in some cases, “all”) of them. What I’m here to do is try to help you narrow down which girl you should go for. Not to be mean or picky, but it’s just sort of a guideline. How do I know which one to chase after? More often than not, each of these girls will be different, both in personality or lifestyle. Maybe from different cliques, different cultures, whatever, but I’ll try to go over what I can. Girl #1 - DGAF Chick This is sort of self explanatory… the DGAF girl doesn’t well… give a fxck. She likes to party, flirts a lot, and has fun being single. There’s a good chance that she drinks, hopefully no drugs, but she’s fun to be around. Usually hangs out with a lot of guys, so that could prove, um, “worrying.” The fact that she hangs out with all these dudes can mean that you’ll get jealous, A LOT, and that you’ll get sort of protective of her. The constant flirting also sends off a lot of mixed messages. Do not go for this girl.Chances are, you’ll be happy that it seems like she’s into you up until you find out she’s like that to almost every guy. You got played, son. Girl #2 - The Shy Girl The Shy Girl is usually really cutesy, and usually hangs out with a lot of other cutesy girls too. Probably a little awkward around guys, but in a good way. They’re usually really nice, and actually pretty...

Pouring out as usually, but then again when isn’t it rainin in Singapore . I could hear the thunderin’ outside. The storms were coming closer. They had been traveling the whole night to get here; of all of Singapore , they had to pick here to settle down for the day. Just my luck I guess. I didn’t choose to be in this war, actually im not even in the war yet and I already lost my right testicle to it. Stupid private had to go be a hero and try to show off. He took a Desert Eagle, loaded it , spun around 5 times and before he even got done finishing the final turn, that stupid idiot went and fired that blasted fine piece of machinery right into my ball sack. They operated on me the next mornin’. I got dragged into the infirmary and the nurse said “ Durnet Charlie, cant you ever stay outtta trouble?” “ Sir no sir, this time it wasn’t my fault sir” “ And the time you jumped into the pond with your rifle and messed it so bad that all you had in the end was a water squirt gun? No, that wasn’t your fault neither was it?” “Well sir, I guess I had a little to do with that one….”  They all make fun of me here. For one I got a lazy eye, they call it exotropia or somethin’. One of the things that could be done by anyone is to read the newspaper. Although Some of the reporting is biased, there is still very valuable information contained that could at the very least give you an idea of what is going on. Having a general knowledge of what is going on will make it easier for the analyst to understand the mission, and what needs to be done to accomplish it. Another thing you could do is to learn as much about the culture, population, geographics, ect about the area that you are assigned to. Fortune Teller

...many places. We looked for cakes, the venue and decorations. As we were driving, we saw Mishra alone; no one was going to her. A lot people have been saying that her telling’s are true; a lot of her costumers got scared. I didn’t believe what the others were saying. I believed in what I believed in. I went up to Mishra. I wanted to give it a try and I wanted Mishra to feel that she was still getting costumers. Mishra had a different way of telling people their future. She used cards, not by hand or any other things. She would pick ten cards out of twenty and I would pick five out of the ten. Those five cards I picked would be telling my future. She laid out the cards one by one as she was laying them one by one, the first card was an Ace with a gun, second card was a king which had a baby on it, third card was a queen which has bad guys killing a woman, the fourth one was a jack which had a broken heart and the last one was a ten which had death. I was really shocked with the result but then again I didn’t believe it. I was really skeptical about a lot of things. As I left, Mishra ran to me because I left my phone. While I was driving I couldn’t stop thinking what Mishra showed me. I was feeling very nervous and I didn’t feel good. As soon as I got home I had a hot shower and went to bed. John wasn’t home when I came, I was very tired and I couldn’t wait any longer, I went to sleep. Next morning, I woke up to a beautiful view outside the window, warm breeze...

I learned about periods and the female anatomy. 2) What information and ideas were the norm when you were growing up (such as in your teen years or early adult years)? Sex was not to be talked about, especially as a topic to find out more information about. It was a sin unless you were married. Kids played around, but you didn't "go all the way". Only bad girls had sex before marriage- guys had sexual urges and had to be told "no". Girls weren't supposed to have sexual urges. 3) What were the attitudes of your parents, your friends, and the media about sex? Parents- Only after marriage-- a dirty subject--- not fun Media- Girls make guys do crazy things- Flirting is ok. Sexiness sells. ...Star Wars Blue Ray Toshi and Allen Watch Star Wars for the first time..   Chapter 1: We kick off a special series with a first viewing of 'Star Wars' on Blu-ray What happens when 21st century kids finally watch the biggest myth of the '70s? Thursday, Sep 22, 2011   This day has been a long time coming.   We all have landmarks by which we measure our lives and our accomplishments, goals you've set for yourself that you've either accomplished or not, and I'm certainly someone who holds film experiences very dear.  The moment I knew I'd spend the rest of my life somehow involved in movies took place in a dark movie theater when I was seven years old, and it was one of those lightning bolt occasions.  I felt pinned to the back of my chair as I watched a tiny blockade runner fleeing from a seemingly endless Star Destroyer that just kept coming out and over, more real than anything I had ever seen, and I've never wavered in my determination to be involved in storytelling somewhere, somehow.   Because of the relevance of "Star Wars" in my development as a fan of storytelling in general, reaching the moment of sharing these films with my kids has been one of my primary goals since I've been writing about the entire experience of sharing narrative with my children.  I know people who start screening the films for their kids as soon as they are old enough to open their eyes, and I respect that.  Of course I know other people who don't think it's of any particular importance,...

Tgirls

...Back stabbed.. After friday night's bad experience at the club, I was told that the genetic girls (which were brought in to augment our numbers as the ts girls are notoriously hard to get to come in) would be de-emphazied. Not fired, just de-emphasized, and only brought in if circumstances absolutely demanded it. For the last two Friday's we had plenty of tgirls, but still we had a bunch of genetic girls, because no one was keepng a schedule. So hardly any of us made even our house fees, and everyone had to scramble to find people to flirt with/lap dance with, whatever it is that we strippers do. This last friday, on a day that was very tense as another co worker's job was on the line for basically pissing off another tgirl outside of the club (a bullshit reason), I just happened to go up to the wrong guy. It was nearing the end of the night and I hadn't made any money, but apparently the guy I went to was there to see one of the cis-gendered females. When I apptempted to flirt with him, I got the whole "You're a guy" and "I'm not a faggot' stuff, and it quickly escalated from that. I was like "why are you even here?" which is the question I had to ask. I also learned later that earier, someone overheard him telling me to "go home" If a TS strip club is a safe haven for ts girls, and THEIR ADMIRERS, then the customer base is comfortable with being there. I threatened to quit over this and I was told that the genetic girls working the night shift would be let go, or de-emphazised...

No Idea

...1937 OF MICE AND MEN by John Steinbeck Copyright John Steinbeck, 1937. Copyright renewed by John Steinbeck, 1965. Published by arrangement with Viking Penguin, a division of Penguin Books USA Inc. ONE A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep and green. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool. On one side of the river the golden foothill slopes curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan Mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees- willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter's flooding; and sycamores with mottled, white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over the pool. On the sandy bank under the trees the leaves lie deep and so crisp that a lizard makes a great skittering if he runs among them. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the evening, and the damp flats are covered with the night tracks of 'coons, and with the spread pads of dogs from the ranches, and with the split-wedge tracks of deer that come to drink in the dark. There is a path through the willows and among the sycamores, a path beaten hard by boys coming down from the ranches to swim in the deep pool, and beaten hard by tramps who come wearily down from the highway in the evening to jungle-up near water. In front of the low horizontal limb of a giant sycamore there is an ash...

...game/competition days. Dressing up and looking cute was only fun for a little while, pretty soon it just got old. I came from a middle school where some of my friends went to high school with me but most of them went to a completely different high school. My friends I knew from middle school all started meeting new friends, and now I had to, too. These were the people I was going to spend the next four years with; I desperately wanted them to like me. As if this aspect isn’t bad enough, when you’re moving up from middle school to high school, you go from being the oldest in the school to being the youngest. The young girls obviously want to impress the older guys! In high school I started to wear more make-up, I started buying name brand clothing, I wanted to fit in and all the girls seemed like we were competing. On days that you didn’t look your best, people noticed, or they just didn’t notice you at all. Joining a sport or club was the next important thing; personally I joined the dance team, and remained on it all four years of high school. We danced at pep fests, basketball games, soccer games, football games, we attended dance shows and we also competed in dance competitions. Every time we had a performance, we got to dress up. This was fun because most girls got really dressed up, high heels and all. Of Mice and Men

...manage to work together, travel together and tackle anything that gets in their way. Steinbeck uses nearly all of the characters in this novel to stress the importance of having a friend. The novel ironically starts off in Soledad, which means ‘Solitude’ but when translated into English it means lonely. George and Lennie are anything but lonely when they are together ‘guys like us, that work on ranches are the loneliest guys in the world… but not us, they aint got nothing to look ahead too. We got a future; we got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us’. They know that they always have each other’s back. They both care about each other, ‘because I got you to look after me George, and you got me’. Although George and Lennies friendship isn’t reciprocal, as George does far more for Lennie, they still stand by each other through right or wrong. Showing that through anything they take nothing more seriously than their friendship. ‘The incident in Weed’ where Lennie was accused of raping a girl, exemplifies the fact that Lennie did wrong but George is willing to look past it because their friendship is too strong. George and Lennies relationship is so rare because it is the only friendship in the novel, let alone true friendship. Nobody else on the ranch has a friendship like George and Lennie, which is why they are different and stand out from everyone else. For George and Lennie, as they make their way through the great depression, on the path to their dream, all they...
