...What is Vietnam? Like the question, my answer is succinct: Vietnam is the Sleeping Beauty. You will find out why, just let the story begin. 1. Beauty Once upon a time, there formed in the Southeast Asia, a little but extremely beautiful Princess called Vietnam. Mother Nature was excessively fond of her and gave her the most wonderful gifts that make her a desirable beauty. Indeed, she was placed in a favorable geographic position alongside 3000 km spectacular coastlines and busy sea lanes which open many opportunities to develop tourism and international trading. She has plenty of stunning landscape and picturesque destinations, to name but a few: Saigon (the Pearl of the Far East), Ha Long Bay (world natural heritage), Son Doong Cave (World’s Largest Cave). Plus, Vietnam was generously given a wide variety of natural resources, e.g. minerals, fertile soil, diversified ecosystem… In addition to natural endowments, Vietnam has resourceful human capital: a 90-million population with favorable demographic structure. The working-age population is accounted for more than a half of the whole. Literacy rates are high and Vietnamese are appreciated for their diligence as well as their quick learning ability and high adaptability. The youth, mobility and strong basic skills of the labor force make Vietnam an attractive destination for investors. Furthermore, Vietnamese people share a strong sense of solidarity and a fierce patriotism that help us not only successfully protect our...

...In the National Gallery ”In the National Gallery” is a short story by Doris Lessing form 2007. The themes in the story are that older are more patient than younger, a person can be attracted by another without showing it, and you must follow the time otherwise it can become ugly. The narrator is first person point of view “She was the boss girl in this group, even if nit officially a head girl or monitor” (page 3, line 43). The narrator has an objective sight, but the narrator reflects and interprets what he sees. Therefore gets the reader a subjective view on the text. Because it is his thoughts we read. “Her eyes focused, on the great brilliant horse, so close, towering there on the golden canvas, on his hind legs.” (page 4, line 102) The French girl did not say anything about the horse; therefore can the narrator not tell what the French girl thinks about the horse. We only get the narrator thoughts therefore the narrator becomes unreliable. Strubbs horse is a symbol of the older man. “But then a man sat down, on the other side of the bench’s arm and he leaned forward, elbows on knees, and locked hard at the horse” (Page 1, Line 19). Before had the horse an important role in the society. Every great leader in history has sat on a horseback, because it was a strong, powerful, and fast. Now we only use the horse as a hobby. When the older man was young he was a strong and marvellous man. He cut pick up a sixteen-year-old girl when he just where twelve years old. ”She...

...chemical elements required by the autotroph and the decomposer” (Botkin & Keller, 2011, chapter 1.1). Texas has many ecosystems throughout the state from the panhandle to the Gulf Coast. Living along the Gulf Coast an ecosystem close to my community would be Galveston Bay. Galveston Bay as an Ecosystem Galveston Bay is a semi-enclosed body of water where fresh water from rivers and bayous mixes with salt water from the Gulf of Mexico and this is known as an estuary. According to "Galveston Bay Estuary Program" (2003-2004),” Estuaries are one of the planet's most productive and important ecosystems. Estuaries like Galveston Bay are "nature's nurseries." The bay nurtures juvenile shrimp, oysters, crabs, and fin fish. Without a well-functioning estuary, there would be little local seafood in restaurants, recreational and commercial fishing would decline dramatically” (why are estuaries important). Human Effects on Watershed According to Sage and Gallaway (2002), “man often dramatically influences the bay, either by influencing the natural pattern of bay inputs, or by disrupting its habitats. Changes in inputs include discharging pollutants into the bay or altering the natural patterns...

...digital technology to do the work for you, and because this movie is an excellent example of a story-driven visual effects film. This movie would not be possible without the visual effects featured in it, but the film doesn’t rely on those effects to tell the story. Pearl Harbor won the Oscar in 2002 for Best Sound Editing, and was nominated for Best Visual Effects. This nomination is no surprise however, when one looks at the effects company that worked on this film. This film was directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) was the major contributor of the visual and special effects for Pearl Harbor. ILM has made their mark in the movie industry with such films as: Jurassic Park, Artificial Intelligence: AI, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and The Mummy Returns [ (Wikipedia - Industrial Light and Magic) ]. Michael Bay has directed such movies as Coyote Ugly, Armageddon, and Bad Boys [ (Wikipedia - Michael Bay) ]. Jerry...

...The earthquake and the tsunami on the Indian Ocean (2004) On 26th of December 2004, the most horrible nightmare came true for the people living in the countries located on the Indian Ocean; Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. It’s one of those episodes that still are remembered today and are in the back of people’s minds. It was series of underground-earthquakes that were triggered, and the first and the most powerful earthquake at magnitude 9,3 on the Richter’s scale. It began 7:58 AM (Indonesia’s time). The earthquake was starting, and Jakarta’s geophysics institute registered it at magnitude 6.5 at the Richter’s scale. The United States Geological Survey reported the magnitude was at 8.1, but after analyses it was then increased to 8.5, afterwards 8.9, and at the end 9.0. After 16 minutes, a warning was published by Hawaii. The biggest disaster struck after 30 minutes, though, when strong waves (that were up to 10 meters high) began hitting the west coast of Sumatra. Only 1 to 2 hours later, the waves came to Thailand, south Myanmar and parts of Malaysia. In Sri Lanka, the waves came 1 to 2 hours after the earthquake. The waves that hit Maldives 4 hours later were not as strong, though… they were still stronger than the waves that hit Kenya, Somalia and Tanzania 6 to 7 hours thereafter. Like I mentioned, the earthquake was first measured at 6.5 at the Richter’s scale, but at the end (after analyses), it was measured at 9.3. The hypocenter...

...broadened in the 19th century to include that of something unusual or special. Those adjectives accurately describe the city of Homer, Alaska, warmly referred to as, "A quaint drinking village with a fishing problem". Aside from the drinking and fishing, it's location, beauty and wildlife are examples of what a unique place it is. Homer is located on the shore of the Kachemak Bay as far south on the Alaska Highway as you can go, giving the town another of it's nicknames "The End of the Road". It's distinctive landmark is the Homer spit, a 4.5 mile gravel bar that is the longest road into the ocean in the world, unique in it's traditional, absolute definition as being the only one of it's kind. The spit is a hub of activity in the summer tourist season but come September completely shut's down like an abandoned ghost town. Only one business, The Land's End Hotel and it's restaurant, The Chart Room stay open, catering to the locals dining out and other Alaskans looking to get away for a quiet weekend. It's hard to describe the thrill of driving into Homer for the first time and seeing the full view of Kachemak Bay and it's deep blue water surrounded by the stunning Kenai mountains and steep, icy glaciers. On a clear day, three giant volcanoes can be seen on the far side of Cook Inlet. Although usually sleeping peacefully, Augustine, Iliamna and Redoubt remain active and are capable of putting on quite a show. The spit itself has justifiably been named one of the top 100 beaches in...

...Terry Fox Who: Terry Fox was a Canadian humanitarian, athlete, and cancer research activist What: Terry Fox ran across Canada on one leg to raise money for cancer research and awareness Where: Terry ran from St Johns on the east coast to the outside of Thunder Bay When: He started his run on April 12th, 1980 and ended on September 1st 1980 Why: To raise money for cancer research and for everyone suffering from cancer also to find a cure Terry fox was not only a great Canadian but also an inspiring individual, with great goals and ambitions. I personally find what he did very touching and inspirational. The fact that he attempted to run across Canada on one leg (since the other one had been amputated because of his cancer) is simply so brave and noble of him. Also it must have defiantly been so hard to run 5373 km on one leg, furthermore I know for a fact I couldn’t even imagine running 2 km on two legs; let alone running what Terry did on one leg. The part I also find very great about him is that he didn’t just do this for himself he did this for everyone else that was suffering from cancer, he was obviously in no condition to run but he still did because he wanted to show people that if you try you can make a difference. Terry did make a difference, thanks to his run people to this day run each year to raise money for cancer, a matter of fact there is a special day for him which is the annual Terry Fox Run Day which is held every year in September. ...The focus on this page is about the water scarcity problem due to drought in Tampa Bay region and how the Swiftmud and Tampa Bay Water could allocate the available resource to the public both economically as well as empathetically. Authors Robert L. Beekman and Brian T. Kench, have used Friedrich Hayek’s ideas to construct a rational economic order. Friedrich has stressed on few points in his book “The Use of Knowledge in Society”, on how to solve the economic problems and how to make the best possible decisions with the given information, which we will see in this paper. The economist Friedrich Hayek has explained in his papers on how to find an economic order with a few considerations and assumptions. According to him, there is a solution to all economic problems if we possess all the relevant information, if we can start from a given system of preference and if we had the complete knowledge of available means. From his view the mathematical equations, which is used to solve the problem gives the best emphatic solution but does not solve the economic problem of the society. This is because the economic calculus never gets the data from the macro level but from a single mind. And this in return will help us on how to allocate the given resources but not how to secure the best of the resources. One of the major points that Friedrich talks about in his paper is knowledge transfer and how the inefficiency in the transfer could hurt the economy in a long term. The “planning” is...

...Keenan Brown Mr. Fletcher Canadian Geography 120 May. 1 / 2016 7 Landforms Regions of Canada The movements of the Earth’s plates have altered the land we live on and therefore altering our way of life. Because Canada is in a temperate climate the four seasons change the already vast set of landscapes each year making them change even more. In Canada we have several different landform regions full of different species, habitats and minerals all unique to their own region. Along with each region, different properties are present giving each a different climate and changing the lives’ of the people who live there. The first of several covers a good half of the country. The Canadian Shield covers most of Nunavut, Quebec, Ontario, Labrador, Manitoba, as well as a large part of Saskatchewan and smaller parts of Alberta and the North West Territories. The Canadian Shield is a relatively flat landscape with rounded hills of metamorphic rock. This region is rich in minerals and is often used as a mining area for many of the provinces. It is a bad area in Canada for farming because the soil is too thin. It is mainly covered in Boreal Forest in the south and Tundra in the north. The Western Cordillera rests along the western edge of Canada, covering most of Yukon Territory and British Columbia as well as western Alberta. Consists of high, sharp-peaked mountains separated by plateaus and valleys...

...Jug Bay Lab Intro The Jug Bay Watershed near the patuxent river wetlands. The area is a wildlife sanctuary for animal and wildlife preservation. The dominant forest type around Jug Bay is of deciduous forest. This province comprises the flat and irregular Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains down to the sea. Well over 50 percent of the area is gently sloping. The climate regime is equable, with a small to moderate annual temperature range. Average annual temperature is 60 to 70F. Rainfall is abundant and well distributed throughout the year; precipitation ranges from 40 to 60 in per year. Mild rainforest is run of the mill in this region. The broad beach front bogs and inside bogs are overwhelmed by gum and cypress. Soils are chiefly Ultisols, and Entisols. Estuaries are home to exceptional plant and creature groups that have adjusted to salty water. Container Bay backings and holds a wide assortment of untamed life and species. Container Bay is one of three locales which makes up the Chesapeake Bay estuary. These tributaries are a critical part of the general wellbeing of the Chesapeake Bay biological system. The essential point of this trek was to examine the natural life found in the Jug Bay region and record information about it. Description of Methods/Procedure: Though out the day we went and investigated two different plots and explored the wetlands. In the two plots we went to, we had to research the wildlife to decide if the plot was a young forest, a mature...

...There seems to be a plethora of human problems that are contributing to the problems that surround the Chesapeake Bay. The problems that humans are causing on the environment may or may not be able to be solved. Nevertheless, it is crucial that the human race attempts to do so. There happens to exist a plethora of ways that humans could restore balance to the bay again. human activity takes a toll on the environment, and there are in fact ways to help the bay be nursed back to health Another, perhaps less obvious way to solve this problem is to lower the amount of power plants are used. As stated in the articles above, power plants heat the water before it is re-entered into the bay, thus changing the chemistry. If the population there turns...
