Happiness Project
The Preparation Stage I had never really thought about what makes me happy or what makes me sad until reading this book and doing this project. It is amazing that when you take the time to sit down and think about what you can change, even if you take tiny steps, it can truly change the way you feel about yourself and others. It make be tedious and seem like is it really worth it but in the end if it makes you happier and you feel better about yourself and the way you look at the people around you it is well worth the hard work. In preparing my happiness project I really had to set down and think what truly makes me happy, what brings me joy in life. There are so many things I enjoy doing. I enjoy being with family and friends, I really enjoy being with my husband and going places together with him, being outside working in the yard or going to the beach or lake, walking, or just lounging on a chair on my porch. I enjoy sports, watching them or playing them. I enjoy playing with my animals. I like to be organized and for things to be clean. I like to work hard and achieve things for my hard work. Thinking of things that made me sad or angry was actually harder than I expected. Probably because those things usually just happen when you least expect them to so you usually do not think of them being an everyday thing. It bothers me when I think people are angry with me or do not like me. I do not like clutter or chaos. I don’t like the feeling of not being able to go to the gym and try and stay fit. I don’t like being rushed, not ever having any time to do anything.

Wellbeing in Education

...of the community by promoting inclusion and addressing inequalities. Every student is treated as an individual and we strive to eliminate discrimination and overcome the disadvantages that exist in society these days that have treated some groups less favourably than others. My duty as an educator is to provide my learners with a positive learning environment and to support their wellbeing by providing challenging, interactive and good quality learning experiences. Wellbeing The psychology of wellbeing has been studied since the times of Aristotle, for two millennia, man has sought the highest good for himself, happiness. The notion of happiness remains vague and multifarious, yet every human being searches for it. However, how to define and obtain happiness has and continues to be a widely debated issue. In Nichomachean Ethics, Aristotle gives his view on happiness. According to Aristotle, various types of people pursue different outcomes; ordinary people seek pleasure, whereas others say that seeking glory is the greatest good. There must be a greater good than glory. Plato suggests that there is only one form of good and that all good things are viewed in the same way....

Humor at Work

...success takes many different shapes and forms, depending on each individual and his goals. For some, success comes from wealth, for others, perhaps from family, while some may view success in terms of their jobs. I believe that we are all in search of happiness, yet that there is not set equation to achieve such happiness. If for example, a person obtains all his happiness from his job, then he may see himself as successful. I believe that both carpe diem and deferred gratification are very important skills to have in order to reach success and happiness, whatever that means for the individual person. In terms of working at a job where you are fully happy, both play an extremely important role, and I believe that have a balance of both is the key to success. Working hard, concentrating and putting effort into your work are scientifically proven to lead to improved results. Your boss may be more likely to promote you if you have been working extremely hard, rather than if you have been taking days off to do other activities you enjoy, for example traveling. Hence, deferred gratification, resisting the temptation for instant reward and waiting for long-term benefits, is important and can lead to greater success, and eventually happiness. Yet, carpe diem is also of extreme importance because, I believe, it helps you in the long run as well. Living for the moment can be manifested in many different ways for different people. Some may believe that using humor in your every day life is...

..."The Arena" is a short story written by Martin Golan. I am going through this task to analyze and interpret this text. The text sheds light on several different areas. This means that the text comes in on topics, such as nervousness, stress, discomfort, family, children, etc. In rough outline deals with text around a father who has promised her that drive him over to an arena where ice hockey is played. The majority of the novel takes place in the car where the danger and the son sit and talk and discuss how far they will achieve it or not. For the son's point of view, it is not a disaster, whether they reach it or not, but in the father's heart, it is different. But getting through the text hints that there is a reason to believe that this incident has happened something cruel. In the text do you get as a reader to know that the father in the past have lost a son, and that he has gone to therapy. You may be able to call it his earlier life when this occurred. Through the short story will be told that the father has got a new wife, and thus also a new child. Although he is married, and "happy" there are still some different traits that makes you as a reader, becomes aware that he is not happy. It will be told in the short story, to his father's new wife is very similar to his previous wife. This can be a symbol of unrequited love and need. I believe that his new wife is a symbol of his old wife. He would like to have the Lady, which he lost, and the closest he comes to this is...

Salary vs Satisfaction

...Salary Vs. Satisfaction Money is an asset that all people need and of course want more of. Choosing your professional career can be a very tough decision between the jobs that will provide a higher income or the outcome of your personal satisfaction. Indeed having a high-paying job saves the financial stress that millions of people have, but what happens when your satisfaction runs out? Society has brainwashed each other to believe that the higher the income the happier you are, but is money really the key to happiness? Working for the satisfaction can make an employee develop stronger and steady goals rather than someone that dreads going into work could create more of a negative attitude towards work. There are other things that are by far way more important than salary when deciding on a job or career. Researching the truth if money really can buy happiness is a study that takes more than just filling out a bubble survey. Lisa Henderson, author of the 2010 Salary and Satisfaction Survey, mentioned that more pharmaceutical companies are looking for more regulatory, stronger qualities, and knowing the clinical roles while hiring employees. Henderson (2010) also states that employees struggle with the workload pressure that tan employee can develop due to not being fully satisfied with the work environment. ...Ancient Greek Philosophy Fall 2010 Thesis 4 Happiness is formally defined as the complete and sufficient good for a human being. This implies that it is desired for itself, not desired for the sake of anything else, satisfies all desire and has no evil mixed in with it. Yet, there are many different views of what sorts of life satisfy this formal definition. Aristotle specifically mentions the life of gratification, the life of money-making, the life of action, and the philosophical life, moreover, the life of contemplation or study. Although he has no patience for a life that is solely based on one’s materialistic possessions, he believes that it is morally proper for humans to seek after material possessions to provide for their sustenance. However, supporting one’s life through material possessions makes the attainment of happiness possible. There are several ways in which Aristotle approaches the question of what happiness consists of. First, Aristotle notes that flourishing for plants and animals consists in their functioning well according to their natures. So one question we should ask is this: What is the proper or peculiar function of a human being? The function of man, something unique to him, is “an activity of soul which follows or implies a rational principle” (Nicomachean Ethics, Part 7, Line 29). Aristotle writes, “Human good turns out to be activity of soul in accordance with virtue, and if there is more than one virtue, in accordance with the best and...

Economic Impact of a Materialistic Society.

...over different times in history. The piece will compare and contrast the benefits of unnecessary spending on an economy as well as one’s state of mind. It’ll also delve in to the common practice of obtaining material for impression purposes and the benefits or lack thereof of doing so. The paper will also draw common correlation between jewelry and society all over history to modern daytime to find the more significant aspect to a society between living and impression. Centuries of historical documents suggest that a materialistic society causes a population to be more unhappy, divided and non-beneficial because of its emphasis on overvaluing items in the process of finding happiness. The emphasis on earning our peers acceptance through materials would lead us to achieve further happiness but statistics prove other wise. In ancient Rome, Asia and Africa along with medieval Europe there has been recorded history of how excess goods and jewelry were used to accentuate their self-importance and status to others. In modern time we find ourselves shopping, adding unnecessary expenses to our lives during the holiday seasons to reach a level of acceptance by our family and friends. The shopping adds high boost to our domestic economy in return. Is it acceptable to prioritize appealing to others with our wants over obtaining our needs? Shagun the Gr8

...The offering for today, a short essay. *** What is life, but the pursuit of happiness? It’s written into any human rights document and has a place in every democratic state’s declaration of state. “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” is a well known and used phrase today. A happy human being is a productive human and if we are all to get along in this world we all need to chip in somehow. Contributing so that we might all have a happy and fulfilling life. Sadly, though happiness is seen as a basic human right by many, it is one thing to write something down and quite another thing to see it happen in practice. Though the comparison might not be the best, it is somewhat the same with communism. On paper it is a wonderful idea, but it has never been fully and successfully applied in our lifetime. Same thing with the idea of happiness for all. Sometimes I wonder, if happiness has not become a harder thing to achieve in our modern society, where we want to do so much, so many different things, achieve so much and contribute to society…While also feeling happy and fulfilled with our lives. Some might feel that happiness is tied to love. Tied to having someone special in your life, to share your long years with. From that we get the stress created by hunting for that special someone and the disappointment when you come up short in the dating game. With a much larger pool of people to chose from, it somehow becomes worse. Back in the old days, we stayed put in one city...

How You Will Measure Your Life

How can I be sure that my relationships with my spouse and my family become an enduring source of happiness? How can I be sure I’ll stay out of jail? Cédric Chaumont_FT5 2/7 Governance and Sustainability - Paper 1 How can I be sure that I’ll be happy in my career? According to Prof. Christensen , “the powerful motivator in our lives is not money; it’s the opportunity to 1 learn, grow in responsibilities, contribute to others, and be recognized for achievements.” I totally agree with Prof. Christensen; it is important to keep in mind that finding happiness in my career has nothing to do with money and everything to do with the opportunity to learn, grow in responsibilities, contribute to others, and be recognized for achievements. As he explained as well, “Management is the most noble of professions if it’s practiced well. No other occupation offers as many ways to help others learn and grow, take responsibility and be recognized for achievement, and contribute to the success of a team.” If I want to maximize my happiness at work, I think there are some important issues to address as: What is something new I would like to learn? What project would I like to take on? How can I help others within my organization? How can my supervisor better recognize my hard work? Doing deals and achieving very good financials do not yield the deep rewards and satisfaction...
