Many people underestimate themselves because they are intimidated by far more talented people but that's not an excuse to stop trying. Derek Jeter once said, “There may be people who have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do- and I believe that. In other words hard work beats talent. Usain Bolt the Olympic legend and a hard working high school runner Wes Schoenthal also live by this quote. These athletes are great examples showing that hard work does beat talent. Many athletes believe in this quote and if they didn’t they would have less belief in themselves to become greater than what they believe they are.

The Accounting Competency Crisis Within the U.S.

...accounting practices and procedures that were in place that lead to their immediate demise. It is because of this bad oversight and bad practices that Corporate America is railing for new talent, only for the talent not to be at the caliber they wanted. Some within Corporate America blame the current education system for not preparing today's "OVER ENTITLED STUDENT" who feel as though they can rightfully command a 6 figure salary as if they were Moses parting the Red Sea, with regards to doing the job they have been hired to do only to do nothing! In my paper, I not only place blame where it needs to be, at both the foot of the Educational System and Corporate America for not doing their part in order to prepare today's students, but I also state from those what can be done to help today's student over come today’s current job disparities within the field of accounting. The article, Finding the Accounting Talent Your Company Needs, published by CFO Publishing LLC, 2015., 1) I found to be a very interesting article for several reasons. One of the reasons...

...Indies Open Campus – St. Lucia Name: Cecilia Clovis I.D. No.: 309100682 Course Code: FOUN1301 Course Title: Law, Governance, Economy and Society Course Coordinator: Mr. Orville Beckford E-tutor: Mr. Lance Gibbs Assignment No.: 2 Date: June 26, 2012 Historically, Jamaican and other Caribbean musicians gave the world a conscience as they became the ‘voice for the voiceless’ not just at home, but also internationally. Has the current crop of musicians in the region deviated from this practice? Explain your response. The Caribbean is home to many of the world’s greatest and renowned musicians. Musical icons like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Mighty Sparrow and Jimmy Cliff worked hard; and with their great musical talent were able to use their music to inspire and create a level of consciousness in black people of the region and all over the world. These men, through the lyrical content of their music touched the lives of the down trodden, lifted the spirit of the hopeless and stirred in the hearts of men and women the passion to fight against the injustices of their own region and in so doing sensitised the universal world. Bob Marley’s music is just as popular today as it was in the early seventies when he released the single ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ and has continued to live on even in his absence. ...Parenting in Today’s China: Concerns, Anxiety, and Commitment* Dr. Gan Wang, Associate Senior Research, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Since the late 1990s, there has been a proliferation of parenting discussion forums (BBS) on the Internet in China. On the BBS, many young parents with higher education keep records of their children’s development, socialize with other parents, first in the virtual space, then in real space., communicate knowledge of childrearing and ECE, and discuss and debate over many issues in early childhood. In an earlier paper of mine, I claim that the Internet provides a new kind of social space in which the young mothers assert their new identity. Today, I’ll concentrate on one special debate issue. Examining the debate, I propose that to better understand challenges and concerns facing Chinese parents, a cultural historical approach should be adopted. Viewing parenting BBS, you often see great concerns and anxieties over the issue whether young children should “learn things”. To study or not to study, that is the question. There are some stories on the internet by ambitious parents who teach their children to recite dozens of Chinese classic poems at the age of 2, to recognize over a thousand Chinese characters and start to read at the age of 3, and play piano at the age of 4. Some of these parents keep record of their children’s progress in these studies and post on the Internet. Other parents might ask them in details and learn...

The Man That Powered the World

...Tesla (July 10, 1856 - January 7, 1943), it is commonly accepted that his invention of Alternating Current (AC) and the AC Generator changed the way humans live indefinitely. With such a great impact to humanity it is surprising that the average person does not recognize his name or what he did. Over the next few paragraphs the research will discuss Nikola Tesla’s career which includes the invention of alternating current, his ongoing quarrel with Thomas Edison, and his controversial recognition. According to the myth, Nikola Tesla was born at midnight on July 10, 1856 during an electrical storm (Ancient, 2010) in an expiring Empire of Austro-Hungary, modern day Croatia. Milutin Tesla, his father of Serbian origin, was an Orthodox Priest. Nikola wanted to study engineering in a renowned Austrian Polytechnic School but was constantly oppressed by his father who wanted him to also join priesthood. After Nikola contracted Cholera, his father promised him that if he survived he would allow him to pursue his dreams of becoming an engineer (Tesla, 2004). Duka Mandic, Nikola’s mother and also of Serbian origin, was a hard working woman of many talents. She was also an inventor whom made tools and devices for her weaving, carpentry, and other handiwork (Glenn, J, 1994). She was descended from seven generations of priesthood and also supported her husband’s desire to have Nikola follow the same path as his father. During his years at school, Tesla’s physics teacher introduced...

That is especially important for the Army leaders who should essentially remain highly cautious and attentive at all times about those working under them as mismanagement of behavior in the Army can lead to terrible consequences for the entire Nation. Here’s How Introduction – The Girl Who Did a Month’s Worth of Practice in Six Minutes: * Media coverage tends to treat each hotbed as a singular phenomenon, but in truth they are all part of a larger and older pattern * Consider the artists of the Italian Renaissance, during which the city of Florence (population 70,000) suddenly produced an explosion of geniuses that has never been seen before * The questions echo – where does this extraordinary talent come from? How does it grow? * Clarissa, part of a study by music psychologists that tracked her progress at the clarinet for several years * Based on her aptitude tests and the testimony of her teacher, parents and her self, she possessed no music gifts * Good musical ear, but her motivation was below average * In the study’s written section, she responded “because I’m supposed to” as her reason for practicing * Nonetheless, she had become famous in music-science circles * Since on an average morning, the camera would capture this average kid doing something un-average, in 5 minutes and 40 seconds, she accelerated her learning speed by 10x and she didn’t even notice * Her music sounded pretty bad, common sense would lead us to believe that Clarissa is failing, but this would be wrong * She has a blueprint in her mind that she’s constantly comparing herself too, she’s not ignoring errors, she’s hearing...

Social Perception of Women

...In this paper I choose to write about the Social Perception of women in the workplace, because women in the professional industry are overlooked everyday especially when u a woman of different race; It becomes very difficult to gain respect or even promotion in that field. In today’s world women of different race are forced to deal with racism and sexism and they have to tolerate it if they want to keep that job but when does this behavior stop; I mean how long can this women continue to keep silent just because they want to provide for their families and if they fight back they are painted as the aggressor “saying she wanted it” but do a young woman walking an office asking for job, or even walking the office asking to be harassed about her body or been called names wanting it. In order for women to talking seriously in his century they have to act like men, be aggressive like them, make their presence by been hard which sometimes can lead to people calling her names; but as a woman of color I understand that they have no choice but to act that way because that’s the only way anybody in that office will take them seriously. With most women of color today the perception of how they see other women been treated can alter their choices in career, so sometimes they settle for career where they feel more comfortable it may not be the dream career they want, if you take a look at most fortune 500 companies almost all their CEO’s are men it rarely before you see a woman CEO in any...

...LEVEL 5 LEADERSHIP THE TRIUMPH OF HUMILITY AND FIERCE RESOLVE What catapults a company from merely good to truly great? A five-year research good to truly great? A five-year research project searched for the answer to that question, and its discoveries ought to change the way we think about leadership. The most powerfully transformative executives possess a paradoxical mixture pf personal humility and professional will. They are timid and ferocious. shy and fearless. They are rare -- and unstoppable. In 1971, a seemingly ordinary man named Darwin E. Smith was named chief executive of Kimberly-Clark, a stodgy old paper company whose stock had fallen 36% behind the general market during the previous 20 years. Smith, the company's mild-mannered in-house lawyer, wasn't so sure the board had made the right choice -- a feeling that was reinforced when a Kimberly-Clark director pulled him aside and reminded him that he lacked some of the qualifications for the position. But CEO he was, and CEO he remained for 20 years. What a 20 years it was. In that period, Smith created a stunning transformation at Kimberly-Clark, turning it into the leading consumer paper products company in the world. Under his stewardship, the company beat its rivals Scott Paper and Procter & Gamble. And in doing so, Kimberly-Clark generated cumulative stock returns that were 4.1 times greater than those of the general market, outperforming venerable companies such as Hewlett-Packard, 3M, Coca-Cola,...

Leader

...Abstract We live and work in a world that is constantly changing which drives today’s organizations to embrace a philosophy of hiring people that can lead employees through change in order to survive. Companies are forever changing due to internal and external forces such as, new technologies, competition, new ideas, profitability expectations, new leadership, and employee turnover. Organizations expect leaders to be a catalyst for change, therefore, the leader cannot afford to stick his or her head in the sand whenever change is occurring and hope the situation will quietly pass them by. Learning to manage high-velocity change is one of the most important leadership skills for a person to master for themselves, their employees, and the organization. What Leaders Need To Know About Managing Change Many of the changes that occurred in the last 18 months were unpredictable, or at least unpredicted, like the crash of the housing market, the collapse of numerous home mortgage and lending institutions, the near meltdown of the big-three U. S. automakers, and the millions of unemployed workers. The implication of the unpredictable nature of change for organizations is clear: although in many cases they may not be able to anticipate change, they can always be fast adapters (Lawler, et al., 2006). In uncertain and rapidly changing environments, organizations are challenged to accomplish two often-conflicting objectives: performing well against a current set of environmental...
