Harmonics Trouble Shooting Tech Paper “Harmonics are created by nonlinear loads that draw a current in abrupt pulses rather than in a smooth sinusoidal manner. These pulses cause distorted current wave shapes which in turn cause harmonic currents to flow back into other parts of the power system.” The problem with this phenomena is that current distortions cause voltage distortions. Which in turn creates waste in your system which is trying to supply the extra current needed to overcome the harmonics. It can also cause component heating and extra charges from your utility company for the excessive draw or disturbance to your neighbor’s power factor. What happens electrically is the ac voltage is ran through diodes which rectify the voltage, and charges a capacitor. The equipment being powered draws the high DC voltage powering the circuit, the capacitor is recharged over and over again. The capacitor only draws when the sine wave is at its peak. In industrial plants the most common causes of harmonics currents are three-phase and non-linear loads like electronic motor drives, and uninterruptible power drives, causes of harmonics in the commercial world are desktop computers, electric light ballasts, and dimmer switch applications. Identifying harmonics is not difficult when you know what signs to look for. As you tour your facility you can check transformers for excessive heat, examine transformer secondary current, and sub panel neutral checks. To verify you have harmonic issues you must use a true RMS multi-meter, these meters give more accurate wave readings than standard multi-meters.
These meters read crest factor, which is the ratio of the peak value to the RMS value. If your multi-meter has peak value function your readings will be 1.414 if harmonics are present. Ways to eliminate harmonics vary, from using isolation transformers which separate the problem equipment from the voltage supply causing the issue. Harmonic filters can be purchased and placed as close as possible to the equipment at issue. These devices are specialized and should be purchased with care and installed by professionals. Power quality analyzers measure, isolate, and correct harmonic problems which makes them among the more popular choices to overcome this problem.

Most mobile multimedia devices, however, use one of the conventional FAT file systems slightly modified for flash memory environments. Our analysis shows that theses file systems have some restriction in recording a live multimedia stream stably because they have irregular write response times. In this paper, we have considered the problems of the existing FAT file system and propose two new techniques to solve the problems. The first technique called Sector Reservation method reduces internal overhead effectively. And the other method called ACPA avoids the periodic cluster allocation of the conventional FAT file system and removes the frequent modifications on the file allocation table in the FAT file system. To evaluate our new techniques, we implemented a prototype Real-Time FAT file system on ARM9 board with our two novel techniques. The experimental results show that our system achieves our goal successfully in that its write response times are very deterministic and more uniform1.
