Headgear Girl Monologue

Confidence is key, or at least that’s what I have heard. Portraying fearlessness comes naturally to me as I sport my headgear around school daily. Coursing through these high schools walls known as “Headgear Girl” does not bother me the slightest bit. In fact, the attractive hunk of metal on my face is like a security blanket; I even chose to wear this headpiece for the year book photos. Courage oozing from my very essence, I am ready to audition for the role of Alice in the school production, Alice in Wonderland.

It is a new dream of mine to become a famous actress. Growing up, my parents had me audition for roles in tv commercials, however, I was painfully shy and too frightened to speak in front of strangers. Only recently has my self-confidence …show more content…
Rushing towards the auditorium at the last school bell, my curly hair sticking out the headgear straps, I daydream about my big break. Nearing the hall, I slow down and approach the already lengthy lineup for the auditions. Completely on my own, I examine my competition. Observing the essentially female queue, I notice how every one of them seem to be practicing lines in little groups. Nearly all the girls have sheets to run lines from. Well shit. Where did they get those from? I must have missed the memo. No worries, I can still shine amongst these other girls.

Standing alone against the wall, calmly awaiting my turn, time passes by slow as ever. Approximately 2 hours have flown by and I have hardly moved an inch. Stretching my legs, I pace my section of the hall and watch the others enthusiastically rehearse their lines. Evidently familiar with the auditioning process, these girls are experienced and prepared to destroy this audition. Literally the only person standing and quiet, I become more and more aware of the fact that I know NOTHING about theater and acting. An uneasy feeling builds in the pit of my stomach. Paying close attention the actresses surrounding me, I take mental notes in my mind as I follow their every …show more content…
Twisting my fingers in my hands, the afternoon started off with such high hopes; high hopes which continue to diminish as time wears on. The funny thing about “time” is it has the ability to build one’s confidence or completely destroy it. Feeling coy and full of nerves, the line that seemed to never end is now dwindling down at an excessive pace.

Suddenly I am on stage. Anxiety is blinding me more than the glaring stage lights spotlighting me. Shuddering beneath the deathly strobes of light, panic strikes me hard. Fully aware there are five women watching me, my heart is pounding ferociously deep inside my chest. A faceless person hands me a piece of paper and tells me to read from it. Staring at the page clenched in my shaking hands, my mind becomes a blank. Why am I here again?

Dizzy with fear, I hear a voice say “whenever you are ready”. Remembering the notes I made while watching the others, I ready myself to project a loud, concise, British accent while using body gestures to better execute my stage presence. Swallowing the large lump in my throat, I feel as though I might faint. Sweating profusely through my carefully chosen audition outfit, I raise the paper at eye level and begin reading

The Crown of Ptolemy (Percy Jackson & Kane Chronicles Crossover #3) by Rick Riordan.Pdf

...RICK RIORDAN THE CROWN of PTOLEMY A Percy Jackson/Kane Chronicles Adventure PUFFIN Contents The Crown of Ptolemy ABOUT THE AUTHOR Rick Riordan is the creator of the award-winning, bestselling Percy Jackson series and the thrilling Kane Chronicles and Heroes of Olympus series. Don’t miss his new series: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard. According to Rick, the idea for the Percy Jackson stories was inspired by his son Haley. But rumour has it that Camp Half-Blood actually exists, and Rick spends his summers there recording the adventures of young demigods. Some believe that, to avoid a mass panic among the mortal population, he was forced to swear on the River Styx to present Percy Jackson’s story as fiction. Rick lives in Boston, Massachussetts, (apart from his summers on Half-Blood Hill) with his wife and two sons. To learn more about Rick and the Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicles series, visit: www.rickriordanmythmaster.co.uk The Crown of Ptolemy ‘CARTER!’ I SHOUTED. Nothing happened. Next to me, pressed against the wall of the old fort, Annabeth peered into the rain, waiting for magical teenagers to fall out of the sky. ‘Are you doing it right?’ she asked me. ‘Gee¸ I dunno. I’m pretty sure his name is pronounced Carter.’ ‘Try tapping the hieroglyph multiple times.’ ‘That’s stupid.’ ‘Just try it.’ I stared at my hand. There wasn’t even a trace of the hieroglyph that Carter Kane had drawn on my palm almost two months back. He’d...

Quiet: Power of Introverts

...MORE ADVANCE NOISE FOR QUIET “An intriguing and potentially lifealtering examination of the human psyche that is sure to benefit both introverts and extroverts alike.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “Gentle is powerful … Solitude is socially productive … These important counterintuitive ideas are among the many reasons to take Quiet to a quiet corner and absorb its brilliant, thought-provoking message.” —ROSABETH MOSS KANTER, professor at Harvard Business School, author of Confidence and SuperCorp “An informative, well-researched book on the power of quietness and the 3/929 virtues of having a rich inner life. It dispels the myth that you have to be extroverted to be happy and successful.” —JUDITH ORLOFF, M.D., author of Emotional Freedom “In this engaging and beautifully written book, Susan Cain makes a powerful case for the wisdom of introspection. She also warns us ably about the downside to our culture’s noisiness, including all that it risks drowning out. Above the din, Susan’s own voice remains a compelling presence—thoughtful, generous, calm, and eloquent. Quiet deserves a very large readership.” —CHRISTOPHER LANE, author of Shyness: How Normal Behavior Became a Sickness 4/929 “Susan Cain’s quest to understand introversion, a beautifully wrought journey from the lab bench to the motivational speaker’s hall, offers convincing evidence for valuing substance over style, steak over sizzle, and qualities that are, in America, often derided. This book is brilliant...
