Hidden Truth
Veronica Lee McDowell
Heritage College Knowing oneself and understanding oneself are two completely different things. Upon completing a few personality tests I discovered qualities about myself I was not aware of as well as qualities I have been aware of for some time. The Myers-Briggs test found me to be a guardian, or “security seeking (Profile of the Guardian (SJ) Temperament),” by nature. That same test then found my personality to be that of the protector, where my primary mode of living is focused internally (Profile of the ISFJ (Nurturer/Protector)), whereas the Locus of Control Survey showed me to have an external locus of control Before I had ever heard of the Myers-Briggs test I would never have considered myself a guardian but upon further reading of the description given my Tan’s Profile of the Guardian (SJ) Temperament I would agree with the title I received. The Profile of the Guardian (SJ) Temperament states that guardians tend to be very traditional because they prefer (judging) the way things are (sensing), with changing being a source of discomfort unless it increases the security which they seek. In following the guardians profile I take pride in being helpful, hard-working, dutiful, cautious, and focused on credentials/traditions. I have always found myself more comfortable with a routine always following rules and procedures word for word, it’s like the Profile of the ISFJ (Nurturer/Protector) says speculating and experimenting do not intrigue me rather I would prefer to make do with time-honored and tested products and procedures. Only under rare circumstances where I have taken the time and determined doing something a different way is for the best whether it be safety or save on time will I go the route of change. In associating the guardian with the protector the Profile of the Guardian says this is the guardian that is less likely to seek positions of leadership but to do whatever is necessary to keep things running smoothly to prevent problems. Responding to this I have to disagree, any position I have ever held I have always sought management, if not for me just to ensure the rules were enforced because I did not believe the current management was doing a well enough job in doing so. But that may have been my downfall in every job I’ve ever held and been promoted at, because even in the position of power I found myself caught between trying to enforce the rules and still having everyone like me; it felt as though I was losing all control and internalizing the stress from it just became an everyday occurrence. Reading more into the Profile of the ISFJ (Nurturer/Protector) I realized it was because being extremely aware of the feelings of those around me I did not want to be seen in a negative light so to avoid it I just internalized everything turning thoughts into firm judgments against others that I could not remove even knowing what I was doing was wrong, I just could not change my view. Finding outlets to vent my emotions and feelings has always been difficult because I refuse to allow others to see me in any other light because in almost word for word with the article I strive on positive feedback and if I allow another to criticize me in a way that I become discouraged I lose all motivation. In further reading of the Profile of the Guardian (SJ) Temperament it says people such as myself are attracted to fields in medicine which is where I find myself today, studying for career as a medical assistant. Which I must say is the best choice considering the Profile of the ISFJ (Nurturer/Protector) says the best career direction for people like me will be something I am extremely interested and in-tune with how other people are feeling as well as where I can enjoy creating structure and order. The last survey I took, the Locus of Control Survey, gave me a six out of 23 meaning I had an external locus of control. Locus of Control Survey Results states that lower scores such as mine are a reflection of an individual’s sense of being “done to” or even victimized. To which I must disagree I do not consider myself helpless or having the world made me to be a victim, I own my mistakes and turn them into lessons learned doing my best not to repeat them. Yes, I believe heavily in fate only because my life has taught me to do so. I may try to fight fate to make sure things go according to my plans but fate always wins out, leaving me wondering why I fought so hard to do it one way when it still finds a way to do it its own way in the end. At the end of the day I just have to go with the flow because nothing is completely under my control. I understand my results may contradict one another but I am only human, and just like every other human on the planet I am a complex being with multiple layers to peel back and understand. Even taking my entire lifetime I do not ever expect to fully understand why I may do something, say one thing and not another, or eat what I do. I do know I look forward to tackling the challenges my everyday life enjoying every step of the way on my pathway to success.

Research Paper Lab 10

...Morgan Johnson (19407679) NS 1110  Friday Research Paper Lab 10 Morgan Johnson (19407679) NS 1110  Friday Research Paper Lab 10 The topic I chose for my research project is setting up a business on the Darknet. I think it would be more accurate to say that the topic chose me. I was originally browsing the internet on the various subjects presented to us in the assignment handout and had started reading a little about ecommerce when this topic jumped out at me. As I started looking into the other topics on the sheet, I couldn’t get the information about the Darknet world out of my mind. I think I have a bit of a fascination with the outer edges of society and that includes cyber-society. The secretive world of the Darknet is interesting in itself but setting up an ebusiness that may or may not provide illegal goods and services requires such an intricate system of safeguards that, for someone new to the tech world like myself, it is like opening the door to a bizarre and complicated dimension. Even after spending some time researching the subject, it would take hours more and I still would have barely explored the world of the cyber underbelly. The first thing a person needs to do when setting up a potentially questionable business, is to research various countries legal relationship with the country you’re based in. For the sake of this paper, we will assume we live in the U.S. Find out which have or don’t have Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties. When you figure...

Interview

...INTERVIEW Interview is a conversation led, which involved at least two people, the interviewer and the respondent. This is not a conversation, but the conversation through which the investigator wants to obtain from the respondent data set to study. Therefore, sociologists rightly point to the fact that it is a specific method of testing, which is assumed to work closely with each investigator and the respondent. The interview is a process in which the investigator is trying to influence the study posed questions and get him to give a speech on the subject of research. It is one of the methods, which allows parallel use of another-namely observation. TYPES OF INTERVIEW: Due to the form of expression of the respondents and the way the interview, and also because of the behavior of the investigator and the number of participants, which are used in the social sciences. We can therefore distinguish the following interviews: oral and written, categorized and Uncategorized, overt and covert, individual and collective, and panels. WRITTEN AND ORAL INTERVIEW: In addition to the interviews conducted in a classical sense, ie, by speaking to the investigator of one or more speakers, there are also interviews in which questions are asked in writing (eg, survey) and the answers are given in writing, directly to the questions listed in the questionnaire, or in another manner, for example, for any given researching cards. The Opposition Article

...things are opposite, such as white is opposite with black, and the chaos is opposite with quiet. Recently I read an article called the daily grind: lessons in the hidden curriculum. This is an article describing behaviors and appearance of boys and girls in the class and after class. There are a lot of oppositions in this article and they are wonderful to compare with. In the following pages I am going to talk about the three oppositions in this article. They are the appearances and behaviors of boys and girls before and in class starting. Secondly the seats that girls and boys choose to sit. Finally the performances boys and girls perform in the class. To begin with, the appearances and the behavior girls and boys perform before class and in the class. Amy Wilkinson is a bold and brassy girl, and she is also strong willed. According to the book “she is fuller-figured than she would like to be, wide-hipped and heavy-limbed with curly blond hair, cornflower-blue eyes, and a sharply upturned nose. With the help of her mother, who is a drama coach, she has become the school’s star actress: last year she played Eliza in Weston’s production of My Fair Lady.” from this description, I can see that Amy is a really outgoing girl in front of her friends, because of two reasons. One is she is good looking, and from the hidden curriculum of school, which good looking girls are popular in school. Second is she loves drama and entertain people. Thus in my opinion she must be outgoing and...

What's so Good About a College Education?

...than just getting money. I also agree that comparing college to a can opener is almost idiotic, especially if you were to dig deeper and see that there’s more to a college education than meets the eye, which cannot be said about a can opener. While a college education helps in getting a job, it also goes beyond and above in furthering our experience and knowledge of the world around us. I wholly agree with the author of the article, clearly stating that college does not only affect our working lives, but every single aspect of our life, as we gain the skills to appreciate the little things more. We see things that other people can’t. That is truly invaluable to me, having the knowledge to look past the surface meaning and understand the hidden messages threaded throughout stories and movies. A college education is not a can opener. A college education is the stepping-stone through a variety of opportunities, like our author had stated multiple times. With college there’s obvious advances in science and technology, and basically even the future of our country. Employers trust us more as the college experience builds our character and outlook on certain things. I find this article magnificent, as it justifies my wants to pursue a college education even...

Escape From Camp 14

... The first book that I read this summer was Escape From Camp 14, by Blaine Harden. The book retells the story of Shin Dong-hyuk’s escape from Camp 14. Camp 14 is a prison for the political enemies in North Korea, and in the camp Shin was forced to survive torture, starvation, malnutrition, and grueling hours of manual labor since he was a child. In a constant battle zone, Shin fought for food and was brainwashed by the camp into believing nothing existed beyond the fences he was trapped in. On January 2, 2005 Shin escaped from the North Korean political camp and was able to see beyond the fences when he was 23 years old. Shin then dedicated his life to sharing his story and is the only person to ever escape any of the North Korean political prison camps. The main impact of Shin’s story in Camp 14 is the psychological toll the camp took on him. At the beginning of the book, Shin describes that he thought of his mother as competition for survival (77), and this led Shin to do things like steal her lunches. The need for survival in the camp forced Shin to not have typical relationships with his friends and family, and the psychological toll of the camp returned prisoners to their basic human urges and instincts. This idea is similar to what happened to the boys in the Lord of the Flies when they began to turn against each other and view each other as a means for survival instead of friends. Another instance of the psychological toll the camp had on Shin was when Shin recalled in...

Characteristics of a Dystopian Society

...To begin with, there was a good deal of propaganda spread throughout the community in both novels. “They've spent so much money trying to convince people they can monitor all the TVs and computers, you know they couldn't have afforded to actually do it” (Haddix 68). This quote from Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix, suited this characteristic the most. People wouldn't risk themselves to do anything which might cause them trouble. The Government had spread news all over the community that every computer and television was monitored. They knew, with the news around, people would always be wary. But Jane, the daughter of a prominent governor said that it was just a lie. They couldn't actually afford to pay for it to happen. In The Giver, there are also quotes which exhibit how the figurehead use propaganda to control people's action. “He killed it! My father killed it! Jonas said to himself, stunned at what he was realising” (Lowry 150). People in this community were given false information about what release meant. They all thought it was a good thing when really, it meant being killed. Propaganda is used in dystopian societies very commonly. The quotes exhibited how the Government used propaganda to control the actions of the whole community. Given misleading information also relates to the fact of how the outer world was being banished and driven away. When what is given to them is limited, people know nothing about the outside world. Consequently, they wouldn't refuse...

...As I approach the lengthy line to enter the gates, I see children running around with Mickey Mouse ears on, mothers looking after her children, and fathers who are uninterested. The chime that rings as the turnstile turns with a feeling of excitement. The first thing to see is an enormous Mickey Mouse head made out of beautiful flowers on the grass area in the back of the train station. Walking through the dim tunnel, a new world awaits. Through the wide road of Main Street stands two tall buildings that face each other, and in the two buildings there are stores, one including the Candy Palace. As I walk pass the store, it smells like vanilla. Looking straight ahead there is the beautiful, vast, pink and blue Cinderella Castle. A horse pulls visitors in a trolley, its horseshoe clanking on the road with each step it takes, coming through with a honk. Workers stand around grasping onto an enormous bouquet of balloons, which are bright and colorful. I see people taking pictures in front of the castle, children running around, and families eating. Walking through the Hundred Acre Woods, I see a tall Tigger. Children are squealing waiting in line to meet the character. Metal chains form the lines; people are swinging it, shaking it, all of which fills the atmosphere and all you hear is rattling. Approaching the character, I hug it and feel its plush fur against my arms and face, seeming warm and cuddly. People shoving buttery popcorn, turkey legs, and churros down their throat...

Yes, may people make up UFO sightings and tamper with videos, but there are people who have seen them, or at lease think that they really seen them. You can never tell who is really telling the truth. If someone actually has proof the government decides to delete all known history about what that person has to say. The government lets people talk to an extent, bit it is about them and someone decides to put the governments business out to be known to the world, the government is quick to shut them up. For example, in 1977 on the Art Bell Radio Show, Bell recieved a frantic phone call from a man who claimed to have been inside Area 51. He started talking about how the government knew that the aliens are here to stay, and he started to cry and seemed scared out of his mind, then suddenly the whole radio station went Off-Air for about 30 seconds. The government did that, Because he was telling the truth. The government is hiding aliens. The scary bt honest truth is that the government has hidden many things from us, aliens...

But Dysart is totally open about what it is he does all the time in his attempt to help Alan. It’s all a trick! After Alan swallowed the “pills of truth” he and Dysart have a very casual conversation where both of them looks to be saying the truth and where there’s no signs of aggression in Alan. Dysart promises Alan that his nightmare will disappear if he does what Dysart asks him to do and after some hesitation Alan starts his account about how Jill purchased him to go out on the town with her. In the beginning he pretends that it was all her idea, but we can clearly sense that he was very much attracted to her as a woman as well as he was scared by the fact that she had noticed so many things in him, which he thought he could keep hidden from his surroundings. He was simply in a dilemma! In the cinema Alan had to admit that he was really fascinated of what he saw on the linen, even though it appears to us as quite ridiculous. But the real drama does not shows until Alan’s dad suddenly turns up and order Alan out of the cinema. First, Alan is scared to death, but after a couple of highly embarrassing explanations from the father, Alan realizes that he and his father have something in common, which they probably...

Objectivity in Journalism

... (Walter Cronkite, 2005b: 227) Objectivity is a standard that promotes truth, defined as a ‘correspondence, grounded in correctness, between thought and reality’ (Heidegger, 1943:1) Objectivity is not the same as impartiality or fairness or balance although all these words are often used as if they were interchangeable. Impartiality means acting fairly because you are not personally involved or have put to one side your personal views or feelings. The elimination of bias. Fairness means acting in a reasonable, just or right way. Balance means arranging things in equal or correct proportions to one another. But objectivity is different. Objectivity means based on facts or evidence, not feelings or opinion. Objectivity requires evidence and verification. It's more than just attempting to be neutral. (Richard Sambrook, 2004) Key Words: Objectivity, Journalism, Facts, Truths, Journalistic Values Putting facts and truths together One of the most troublesome aspects of the debates around objectivity and facts in the way that the concept of object is given a dual role: that of a view of the world, but also a way of representing and communicating truths. This gesture treats the word “objectivity” as short-hand for “objective reality” as well as a mode or method of perception of this reality. This fusion of reality and perception narrows the space between facts and truths. It closes down a very important philosophical area that has been explored...

We Wear The Mask And Richard Cory

...Things are not always as they seem, sometimes first impressions can be deceiving. In Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem, “We Wear the Mask” and Edwin Arlington Robinson’s poem “Richard Cory” the theme of appearance vs. truth is explored. These poems show how you can see someone and still not completely “see” them. They live an ironic life as their appearances differ from their reality. Everyone has a way in which they mask themselves from the world. Their hidden truth kept within a false persona. In We Wear the Mask people are described as hypocritical, deceptive and willing to appear content with their circumstances, although they are not. The speaker's world appears cold and indifferent; inducing false personas in an effort to appear unbothered. The people are determined to keep the true nature of their sufferings to themselves and to present to others happiness and lack of care, “We wear the mask that grins and lies,” (Dunbar line 1). All of the courtesy and feelings shown are just phony disguises for the painful truths that hide behind them. Furthermore, no matter what is felt one should cover it up, to allow what appears to become reality....
