For instance, i would love to have a B’ average or higher throughout my whole high school experience. Also, since i have a love for football i wish to join and play for the football team in high school. Another dream/goal i want to accomplish is to overall be a better student than i ever was. Therefore i have three main goals i will be talking about in this essay that i hope and will attain during my high school career. First and foremost, to atleast have a B’ average is a goal i wish to have because it's something i've always wanted to accomplish but never did in middle school. Since i wasn't the best alumni in middle school i would love to start off new in high school and prove to others and myself that i am able to do it. In other words, having at least a B’ average or higher would be a great attainment because of the fact that i never got to accomplish it in my previous years in middle school. Thus, it would be a dream/goal to achieve that, due to the fact that i would also like to make my mom and family proud....

...Teresa Flanagan Individual Transition Plan Shenandoah University Transitions for Students with Disabilities SED 575 June 25, 2014 Individual Transition Plan OVERVIEW: Student J is a 14-year-old eighth grader at Seneca Ridge Middle School. He was found eligible for special education services in September 2008 as a student with Other Health Impairment (OHI) and a secondary label of an emotional disability (ED). When student J was in his late elementary school years he experienced inability to interact with his peers and maintain social relationships, and was observed shutting down and displaying self-destructive behaviors. There were interventions and accommodations implemented in elementary school including a behavioral plan, which was revised each year he was in middle school, based on what his interests were which were used as the motivators and rewards he would receive for displaying appropriate behavior and completing work. Student J became academically successful and was showing great progress at the end of seventh grade. During his 8th grade year he went through the reevaluation process and was found continued eligible under the same primary and secondary labels. The areas of concern for Student J were identified as problems with using appropriate language, and the same behaviors of shutting down when he was experiencing frustration. This cased a lack of progress in content subject areas during his eighth grade year. Student J receives special education services...

Education Excellence

...national educational achievement rates is when the children first begin school. “In a 1983 report, titled A Nation at Risk: The Imperative for Educational Reform, by the National Commission on Excellence in Education, helped create a public demand for change in the public schools.” (Berns, 2010, p. 212) This report is what encouraged the government to make the change. “To address the charges made by the report, government, business, and educational leaders developed six national educational goals, announced in 1990 and reconfirmed in 1999 in the Educational Excellence for All Children Act” (Berns, 2010, p. 213). The Educational Excellence for All Children Act (1999) stated that by the year 2000 they wanted to achieve what they created. The first goal was to have all children in America start school ready to learn. Part of this goal is to have all children have the access to high-quality and developmentally appropriate preschool programs that will help to prepare the children for school. This is a great idea and goal, but unfortunately it is not directed to all children. In most cases, this is only for the children who are in the upper class and the lower class families. Therefore, this goal needs improvement because it is not helping the children who are from middle class families. This goal also focuses on children receiving the nutrition, physical activity, and health care needed to begin school healthy and be ready to learn mentally. Part of this does seem to have...

Educational Excellence

...Children Act is a set of goals that were created by the National Educational Goals Panel. The act is made up of 6 goals that include ideas like school readiness, preparedness, and safety (Berns, 2013). I researched two separate schools in different states; Limon Public Schools in Limon Colorado, and Hephzibah High School in Hephzibah, Georgia. Through this I was able to discover the large differences in statistics regarding educational excellence. The first educational excellence goal is for students to be ready to learn by the year 2000 (Berns, 2013). I believe that this goal has been achieved through the use of early childhood education. Preschools have become much more of a “school” than a “daycare”. Many preschools are required to have a curriculum, and to show growth in the children attending. Early education helps prepare children and send them into the public school system ready to learn. The Head Start that I work in was established in 1999 which helped children in our community to begin to meet that goal by the year 2000. The second goal established was for the high school graduation rate to increase to 90 percent by the year 2000. This goal has yet to be met nationally. In 2009 graduation rates were at 75.5 percent. Although this is higher than the 72 percent graduation rate in 2002, there is still a great deal of work to be done to meet this goal (Layton, 2009). This goal most definitely still needs improvement. The third educational goal is based on student achievement...

Why College Education Is Important to Me

...ways of reaching your dreams and goals in life are to have a college education. Without a college education you may find it extremely difficult to have a good enough career that will provide you and your family with enough money to do the extra things in life that are pleasurable and exciting. I also strongly believe that having a college education will teach my children that continuing their education beyond high school equals success for them in the future. Without a college education one cannot reach their full potential thus making them unable to achieve their highest and most sought after dreams and goals. One of the main reasons to continue your education and get a college degree is that it opens many doors of opportunity and allows us to obtain a better career. It is hard to find a decent job that will pay you a decent salary with only a high school education. Although a college education does not guarantee success it does give a little bit of an edge over a high school graduate applying for the same position. You have more choices in careers with a college degree thus giving you more choices in life. Having a college degree for the most part means having more money. More money means being able to do things that you cannot do with a job obtained by only having a high school education. In my case it is important to me because it played a huge role in my child custody case. I was a stay at home mother for six years freshly out of high school, I was married at seventeen and...

Microfinance & Education

...disagreement is real, we can take solace in the fact that there appears to be significant consensus on the actuals drivers that play a significant role in empowering the poor, being Capital, Knowledge, and Opportunity. In discussing poverty, it’s important to note that, contrary to common belief, poverty is an epidemic not specifically reserved for developing nations, and continues to be a major problem in the US. The below graph, derived from the US Census Bureau highlights the level of poverty, per race within the US in 2011. Some interesting observations include the incredibly high poverty rates among African American and Hispanics, and the obvious intra-race poverty disparity. Regardless of ones opinion on poverty and the mechanism to alleviate it, it’s worth noting that poverty possesses a heavy cost not only on its victims, but on society as a whole. There is significant statistical correlation between high poverty rates and elevated crime, higher utilization of government safety net programs, and poorer personal health (resulting in unexpected hospitalization.) These costs are ultimately borne by tax payers through higher taxes. Additionally, it’s worth nothing that the victims of poverty typically do not individually have the tools to escape their circumstance, and without help in addressing the...

Growing up in East Los Angeles and attending James A. Garfield High School, an overcrowded and poorly funded school, made it difficult to navigate my education. Succeding in College

...Succeeding at Fullerton College Transitioning from high school to college can be intimidating I know this because that is what doing right now. Everything is different from the people, to the schedule, and just the surrounding. In high school I was always that student who always did good enough, that did homework here and there. I knew that I could do the work, but never really wanted to. Instead I would have rather hung out with friends, watch TV, or go play basketball. Never wanted to study or do homework towards the end of the senior year I realized that I am capable of more. Even though I averaged a 3.0, I could’ve gotten a higher GPA if I had put in more effort. If I wanted to succeed in life then I have to start putting in the time and effort, and that starts with succeeding in college. Various of students have their own plan to succeed in school, but mine it starts with setting myself goals, time management and most importantly taking advantage of student services here at Fullerton College. First of all I’m going to set myself goals not just life goals but goals in generals. Setting goals is practically a to do list, it explains to you what is need from yourself. It is going to give me direction to my life and a purpose. I feel like if I don’t set myself goals then somehow some way I’m going to start following a path made by others.
