Dragging yourself out of bed and forcing your body through another exhausting day; constantly being expected to be at your best performance. Not only that but you’re also expected to take on an abundance of homework and challenging courses. These are only a few out of several reasons why high school may be more challenging for students than previous years, such as middle school was. So why are we as students forced to run off of less and less sleep as the years go on when things only become more and more challenging for us?

With all the hard work we’re expected to do daily, we should at least be given a half decent time to wake up. When we were in middle school, we had to wake up around the same time as high schoolers, now all of a sudden

Persuasive Essay For High School

...As we grow up people expect us to just know what we’re going to be as adults. What we are going to do when you grow up, How we’re going to act like grown-ups. But they never actually teach us how to be grown-ups. High School's should be focusing on more important classes such as teaching us how to do our own taxes, how to keep our credit score up, how to save. Instead, once we learn algebra, algebra two, geometry we have to continue on with pre-Calc and other things we may not even need to know for our future occupations. I think the school board should add classes that teach us basic life skills we will need as adults. Our high school curriculum should just add classes like that into our daily schedules. Or allow students to choose if they...

Persuasive Essay On High School Sports

...Breaking news! Orthopedic surgery becomes the most profitable career in medicine as increasing numbers of high school baseball players tear their shoulders and elbows to shreds. That wasn’t the headline in my local newspaper this past summer, but this was: “New pitch count limits applauded by some, ripped by others.” For those of you who don’t eat, sleep, and breathe high school baseball, you wouldn’t know what this means, so here’s some background. The NFHS, the national governing body of high school sports, had instituted an innings limit on high school pitchers to ten innings every five days. It was meant to prevent shoulder injuries. Nobody liked the limit because it made no sense. It had no bearing on the number of pitches thrown, since a pitcher could throw 50 pitches in one inning. Seeing the issues with this, there will be a pitch count limit for this upcoming season. Some people love this idea, but they don’t play the sport and don’t...

The number of students getting concussions is growing every year, but how do we bring that number down? Persuasive Essay About High School Sports

...Final Throughout the world there are many schools that believe that school should be about learning not about sports. But I believe that school should be about more than just learning. It should be a place where you can socialize, have fun, and play sports. But most importantly I do agree that it should be about learning. In the article “High School Athletes Gain Lifetime Benefits” there are many good points on why sports are a good thing to have in high schools. A research was conducted by Kevin Kniffin, a teacher of leadership and management in sports at Cornell University. Kniffin’s research showed that people who play high school sports get better jobs, with better pay. Sports is not just a time to have fun, sports can teach a person to have more self-confidence, self-respect, and leadership. I6t is also said that former student-athletes donate more time and money more frequently than people who weren’t part of a sports team....

Persuasive Essay: Should High School Schools Start Later?

...A survey of U. S districts shows fewer than one and five high schools begin before 8am. High school students go through a mass amount of bullshit on a day to day basisIf there are any changes that should be made about school it would be the school hours, standardized test and classes. Sleep the time our bodies recover; but what if you don't get enough? Your grades, health, and performance suffers. Teens need about 8 hours of sleep each night, but when you have homework, chores, and hours of studying how can you achieve that with adequate amount of sleep in mind. School should start later so students have enough time ti get work done and get an appropriate amount of sleep. We spend hours deciding and choosing our major and career paths but...

Sexism Manifest In The Arena Analysis

...University of South Dakota I had attended O’Gorman Catholic High School where I received a wonderful English education. I believe I had received the best English education that any high school student could have. I personally believe that I have grown in my writing. I do know that I have some problem areas in my writing, however. When I start with a rough draft I always write in first person. I have some trouble with my grammar, but I continue to grow as I further my education. My Media essay, “Sexism Manifest in The Arena”, dealt with the issue of how prevalent sexism is in our society even in popular public figures like Hilary Clinton. In my RBAA essay I talked about how America needs to correctly respond to the intimidating terrorist group, ISIS....

...section Vi essay forms Many people use the term “essay” to mean any paper written for a class. In actuality, there are many different types of essays, each of which has a unique purpose, form, and style. We call these different types of essays “modes of discourse,” and they include expository, persuasive, and comparecontrast essays to name just a few. This section of the Guide has a dual purpose. First, various types of essays are described and suggestions are included about how to approach each particular type of writing. Second, the sample essays are good tools for you to see how these different essays look in their final form. These are not templates (no essay can be a carbon copy of another even in form), but they will give you a good idea of what a final piece of writing for each mode of discourse looks like. It would be advantageous to critically analyze the form and content of each sample against the instruction for how to write each type of essay. chapter 21 expository essays Jennifer propp An expository essay explains something using facts rather than opinions. The purpose of this type of essay is to inform an audience about a subject. It is not intended to persuade or present an argument of any kind. Writing this type of essay is a good way to learn about all the different perspectives on a topic. Many students use the expository essay to explore a variety of topics, and do so in a wide range of formats, including “process” and “definition”...

Legalization of Euthanasia in the United States

...5th grade persuasive If you would ask children if they think there should be school on Saturdays, without hesitation they would say, “No way!” What child would want to go to school on Saturday? What teacher would want to go to school on Saturday? If anyone is thinking about having school on a Saturday, they better think again. When would children have their friends over to the house? Sometimes the parents might not have to work on Saturday, but the kids would have school. Now no one can sleep late or have quality time. Parents and children need time to bond. I’ve heard that the biggest influence on kids these days is the parents. Well, it’s not going to be that way for long if the children aren’t even seeing their parents. I think that before you make a decision you should think about what I am telling you. What about out of class projects and reports? They couldn’t be out of class projects if the children are always in class. I see another problem with Saturday school. Another day of homework. Homework already kills a lot of my time. I don’t want another day of it. I think people voting for Saturday school should put themselves in the children’s shoes. Just imaging yourself jumping out of bed on a Saturday morning and you say, “Aaah. It’s Saturday. What fun things should I do today?” Now imagine yourself saying the same thing and then you remember, “Oh, yeah. I have to go to school. Ugh.” Which one would you enjoy more? And think about the fact...

...Persuasive Essay Robyn Ralston COMM/215 January 26th, 2015 Paul Korzeniowski Persuasive Essay Even though adding a Turf Field would cause higher taxes, adding a turf field to a school al-lows all area schools in the district to have a field to play on and other clubs can play weekend sports on the field which will generate more crowds. Many school districts have annual votes to have many items voted on to have added to their school district. Greece Central in Rochester, NY has always played around with the thought of adding a turf field to one of the area’s high schools. With four Middle/High Schools, the ques-tion becomes where do we add it? On January 13th, Greece’s school board meeting was held, and the board approved on going forward with a vote on the stadium. The district decided they will have a vote on March 24th, 2015 to have a turf field added to local high school Greece Ar-cadia (McDermott, 2015). Adding the turf field to Greece Central would allow for all the high school teams to have a place to play a home game at night. At this current time, the only time any of the high schools in Greece plays the night game is at another district where they already have a tuft field under the lights. Adding this new stadium with the lights will be able to host these games. Many parents have stated having a Friday night game under the lights would make it so they would be able to attend more games. According to "13 Wham" (2015), ““It's a culture I think we've...

...Charles Murray. Ungar believes that everyone should go to college and receive some form of liberal arts degree, while Charles Murray believes that only students in to 90 percentile should go to college. Both men agree that a liberal arts degree is a great thing, but their opinions on when it should be taught and who it should be taught too are very different. While Murray’s points are somewhat accurate I believe that Ungar’s ideas are more persuasive because he recommends that everybody gets a liberal arts degree helping increase the amount of people with the critical thinking and communication skills businesses are looking for. Sanford Ungar wrote the essay 7 Major Misperceptions About the Liberal Arts. In this essay Ungar describes the benefits of getting a liberal arts degree. In misperception 2, Ungar states how even though people believe the notion of “who wants to hire someone with an irrelevant degree?” most businesses actually prefer students to have liberal arts degrees. The businesses want this because they know liberal arts schools mainly focuses on the key factors that they look for. For example, 89% of businesses included in a 2009 survey said that they were looking for more people to communicate orally and in writing more effectively. (Ungar) Ungar also...

Unemployment Persuasive Essay

...the US Department of Labor; unemployment has risen this year to 7.3 %, which is 0.8 points higher than last year. Economists are very sure that unemployment ratio will never be at 0%, however, there is hope that the rates can become much lower. Americans are laid off their jobs daily, reducing households to single income families are even no income. This long-lasting economic effect has knocked on the door of home and affected my family as well as other hardworking citizens. One writer stated, “Too often unemployment affects not only unemployed individuals but also members of their immediate families.”(Aber, 1997). In this essay I will discuss how unemployment has affected my family, how my family is coping with this issue and what positive movements the economy is working on to recover from this problem. What is your thesis? This is a persuasive essay, so I am expecting a point of view. Merely implying is not clear enough. You must be as clear as possible. In January 2013, my husband was laid off from his job with no warning. His supervisor approached him after his shift and was told him that the company was downsizing and his position was no longer needed. The supervisor gave him his last paycheck, and encouraged him to file for unemployment benefits. Unemployment benefits will not equal half of his income when he was working. The struggles in finances became stressful to my family because I am the only one bringing home a steady income...

Literacy Experience Of Writing-Personal Narrative

...grade, I remember learning how to write in cursive. At this point of time cursive was being taught in school. My mom would buy the practice workbooks for writing in cursive. Another literacy experience I remember is learning my multiplication. At school, we would sing songs, solve on paper and they would also time us on how many multiplication problems we can answer in a certain amount of time. Lastly, another literacy experience I remember is learning how to write an essay. I believe I learned how to write an essay in middle school. Learning how to write an essay was helpful because you would be continuing to write essays in high school and in college. I was happy that I learned how to write in cursive because it became helpful for me later on. In fourth grade, I moved back to New Orleans and started to go to school down there. In New Orleans after third grade you cannot write in print. I use to have to write everything the teacher put on the board. I didn’t have a problem writing everything in cursive though my hand would start hurting. Then eventually I moved to Florida with my aunt and my cousins. Sometimes I felt like I was a step ahead of everybody because people my age didn’t know how to write in cursive. Some of them were never taught to write in cursive. Even though many people didn’t know cursive too well I was...
