Higher Education In America
As an international student, this topic means a lot to me because foreign students pay three times the fees residents pay and this leads to higher students loans for us. Like the Article said, “America is the home to the world’s best universities”, so tons of foreigners from all over the world strive to come to the United States to get that education.

The Article states that student fees has doubled over the last few years, I personally have witnessed it increased by a few thousand dollars over the span of four years, which is why I agree that something should be done about the cost of formal education in the United States. More often than not, the first few years after a student graduates from college could be pretty rough, because they spend a large portion of their income repaying back student loans. This is why I support and strongly encourage Mrs. Clinton’s plan to cap repayment of college loans to a maximum of 10% of income over 20years and if the loan is not repaid by then, the government would pay the rest of it. This plan would leave a graduate with student loans with at least 90% of his income after paying for the loans. I think this plan would the mind of student at ease a bit and give them an incentive to study a course that actually means something to them, not just the course that costs the least.

Mr. Rubio on the other hand, plans to reform educational systems by encouraging students to take up online learning as a platform. I personally do not buy this idea because I believe most colleges classes, especially in senior and junior years should be taken in class. Personally from experience, and what I have heard from other students, nothing can be compared to sitting in class and taking notes right under a professor’s nose.

Mr. Rubio also suggested “private investors would pay for a students loan in return for a

While the worldly competition in education has drastically increased, President Obama has addressed a goal for the nation by 2020-for America to be top in the highest proportion of college graduates of the world. One of the greatest challenges that plays as an obstacle for this goal is the problematic college access. On the contrary, Germany has found that college education is not a necessity at all and has successfully maintain a low unemployment rate. However, the economy and government of the United States is structured very differently, and the framework of Obama’s plan proved that a stronger educated population is directly correlated with a stronger nation itself. History and Theoretical Framework For much of America’s history, a college education was not needed to make a decent living as the difference between the average wages of high school and college graduates was very minor. After WWII, however, the growth of education started to move in...

Romney vs. Obama

...American citizens. During the campaign period, national conventions, and presidential debates, President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney discussed why both are qualified and best fit to become President of the United States. Many topics such as education, foreign policy issues, health care, and economy and trade are elaborated during the campaigning period, the conventions, and the debates. According to multiple media sources such as CNN and Fox News, the 2012 presidential election is in a dead heat. Governor Romney revealed qualities that would make him a good President. Governor Romney’s economic policy is what a fragile America needs and his ability to recognize the danger of the growing debt. Governor Romney possesses great knowledge of the current budget mess and yet has an optimistic view of America’s future. That is the change I want for a better America. A strong education system is essential for a better America. Currently, the education system is in a weakened and unstable state. President Obama’s failures to strengthen the education system and prevent the rising cost in education, has forced the hand of Americans to vote for a better-fit candidate. Both candidates agree that more teachers and a better education system...

What's An Argument For The Decline Of America?

...decline of America, I disagree with that belief. I believe that due to countries growing quicker today that we should stand behind our advancing allied countries more now than ever. The rise of the rest will be beneficial for the United States because if we invest in the countries that are rising, we will gain profit and increase the relationships of our societies; having strong foreign affairs is very important to the future of any country. Another reason I don’t view America as decreasing influence as a world superpower is due to our higher level in education. America houses some of the top colleges in the world, offering incredibly intelligent graduates to help support the view of America; how can we be declining if the current generation is well-educated and trained to advance their country? Other countries, such as China and India, seem to have surpassed...

Education Policy in U.S.a and United Kingdom

...and U.S.A’s Education Policy Student’s Name Institution Affiliation Introduction Education policy refers to the guidelines and principles that the government put in place as laws in order to govern the activities around education systems in their country (Dewey, 2012). These policies are meant to be implemented in all the stages of education that is from early childhood education, kindergarten through to 12th grade, university and college education, graduate, adult education and job training. The areas that the government focuses on while formulating and implementing education policy include school choice, class size, school size, teacher education, school privatization, teacher pay and certification, curricular content, teaching methods, school infrastructure and education requirements (Dewey, 2012). It also encompasses the values and missions that schools aim to uphold and achieve respectively. A country’s academic success is greatly determined by the kind of education policies that have been formulated and implemented by its government (Ravitch, 2012). Hence this is a very vital factor for citizens to consider when they are obligated to vote in a new government. They tend to look at the most beneficial and favorable education policies that are going to be for the good of the country. Politicians also prioritize this factor when they are campaigning for office. This essay aims at comparing two countries’ education policies that...

Emerging Adulthood

...the way through their twenties. Emerging Adults are individuals that are no longer children, yet have not reached complete adulthood yet (Jensen, 200). The expectations of teenagers, in America, graduating from high school have changed over the few centuries. Initially, Americans teenagers exiting high school were expected to join the workforce, get married and have children, and all before their mid twenties. Now there is a new grace period, called “emerging adulthood”. This period of time, between the ages of eighteen and twenty-nine, has become a time where young men and women are expected to search for their own identities, continue their education, find a suitable career, then settle down into a married life and have children of their own if they so choose. There is still a wide variety in difference in expectations in America, especially when considering the social, ethnical and financial background that these young individuals come from. Children from more affluent families are likely to go to a college or university right after high school, where as children from less financially stable backgrounds are likely to join the military in order to afford schooling, or head straight into manual labor type jobs, in hopes of going to college later on. Argentina, much like America, is a western industrialized culture that shares a lot of commonalities with its expectations of emerging adults, though there are several cultural differences. Americans tend to place more...

New Campus Carry Laws

...Abstract Universities and College campus are a hot topic because every year they attract and house hundreds of thousands of not always quite mature teens and young adults. The perception is that the Campus Carry Law will not be very effective and could quite possibly back fire on innocent faculty and student body members, victimizing anyone who may come in contact with one of these radically violent individuals intent on harming people. (2015) Arrigo Bruce and Acheson Austin Contemporary Justice Review, Concealed carry bans and the America college Campus. Statistically numbers are down when looking back over the past couple decades. Since 1990 there have been 143 school shooting related instances and over 450 deaths and injuries. (2006) Norton Elia and Jennifer Ansier, USA Today, Behind the Bloodshed. The very fact any person could possibly be murdered or injured by another person at any moment in America has always been known and terrifies the majority of citizens. Like many Americans I have to ask, what we can do as a Nation, one unit, to better insure the public safety of every individual. To understand this problem we must go to the root. The American System and its five sets of institutions which ultimately control American way of life. The five institutions are legal, political, economic, educational and sociocultural. Immigration in America

...United States of America. Today, immigration has become such a large topic that policies, our countries economy, and even the outcome of elections are heavily weighed around the issue. The problem that arises from the situation isn’t the fact that it is causing a hardship for our country, the problem stems from the ignorance of majority of the people here in America that don’t understand the positive and important role immigrants play on our countries continuous growth. For the longest I always thought that the only immigrants coming into the country were those of lower educational, occupational, and English proficiency status and as a country “we are now getting the poorest of each race”. I attribute this mindset to the fact that I grew up misinformed about immigration because whenever the topic was brought up or mentioned, it seemed to always focus around illegal immigrants coming from Mexico supposedly stealing jobs from others, and around Asian immigrants coming to the country with no intention on learning English. With these two instances being the focal point of all conversations I was rather a part of our witnessed based around immigration, it’s understandable why I, and many others had/have negative thoughts towards immigration. After reading Immigrant America, reviewing reports by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), and in class discussions, my entire perspective on immigration based around education, occupations, and English proficiency in America has changed...

Sdu Paper

...Background, Education, and The Truth Barber, Mantsios, and Tannen are three authors who all talk about the problems of access to education, the purposes of education and how important it is and the impact of class as well as gender in the classroom. The successfulness of people very much bases on their social background. This is just a small part of the problems that have been discussed. This type of problem is very socializing and important; furthermore it might become issues that have big impact to social life other than just to individual. How people think and react may bring us a brighter view and better result for the future. One issue is that lower class classrooms do not have enough money to provide proper education. Therefore, schools look to advertisers for funding, which allow companies to target young students. In “The Educated Student: Global Citizen or Global Consumer?”, Barber was giving us ideas of how it happened and effected the future of lower class people and America as a whole. The main point of his essay was about the equality of education and how women and African Americans just got the right to have an equal education. Barber was succeeding in how he got the reader along the way. His text was really easy to read and understand. He used a lot of personal evidence to tell his ideas and to prove the problems. Other than that, he was also giving us some evidences by providing data and analysis of his study. He also used historical analysis about 9/11...

Racism In Schools

...Schools in urban areas unfairly receive less public funding. Roscigno brings up the fact that the inequality of public school funding is due to the local poverty tax in the district (268). This is considered residential segregation. This diminishes the opportunities and full potential a student can receive. Due to low funding the public school system is in the end shorting minorities their natural rights as American citizens. A child's education should not be based on how high the income rate is in their area. The wealth should be redistributed through the whole city. This will allow each student from every area to be given a fair chance to a quality education. The schools would all receive the same amount of funding and materials that are...

Hello

...The real value of higher education By Tom Ross, 3.15.15 This is adapted from remarks given at the National Public Affairs Forum in Raleigh last week: America is losing her way with regard to higher education. We seem to have forgotten the real value of higher education – both to our economy and to our society. We have become too focused on metrics, return on investment and job preparation. I am not suggesting these are unimportant. Rather, I would remind us that higher education offers many other – and I contend greater – benefits to our nation and its citizens and communities. Universities have long been known and respected as places of ideas and debate, of big discoveries and bigger dreams. It is within our universities that we have tackled some of our most perplexing problems and found solutions to them. It is on our campuses that generations of students have learned how to think for themselves and how to work collaboratively with others. Our universities have been places where ideas and dreams are converted to life-changing discoveries, and where our leaders of tomorrow are developed. Since the dawn of our nation, our universities have been at the center of our civil society and our search for excellence. We increasingly view our colleges and universities as nothing more than factories that must demonstrate an immediate return on investment for consumers. Places that only train people for the workforce. We hear constant calls to drive out costs and produce more...

Women’s Social Mobility in the United States of America

...Women’s Social Mobility in the United States of America We live in a world full of obstacles where it’s said that the one who is born poor will remain poor. Like many other country in the world the United States of America is also struggling with the difficulties regarding social mobility. The American dream is that the poorest suburban person can be a rich person too and America is the home and land of unlimited possibilities. The main idea is that if you work hard enough you can make it to the top. Is it true for everyone? Can women make it to the top? But before I start my essay on Women’s Social Mobility in the United States of America let me clarity certain definitions. The concept of social mobility has two main meanings: a) in the narrow sense, represents the moving in a stratification system, b) broadly refers to the space movement (territorial mobility) and / or change of employment (or mobility fluctuation labor). Studies (theoretical and empirical) say that social mobility can be placed in three categories: - those using a hierarchy criteria, tracking movements between strictly hierarchical layers. It’s the American tradition, which uses the social status as a hierarchical criteria. - those who use as a classification criteria exclusively the individual’s occupation, this leading to the establishment of a social space consisting some number of socio-professional categories: tradition - those using as a criteria social classes and social strata. Here fall particularly...
