Teamwork is a skill that is extremely important for many working adults and sports are an excellent way to start building this skill. Sports are all about working as a team and coming together with your teammates to accomplish something. Even more individual sports such as track help build teamwork because you still practice with others and get better and improve together. The marine corps website states that “Working as a team to reach a common goal helps children develop communication and problem solving skills that will benefit them on the field and off.”(5 reasons why). The marines put tons of emphasis on teamwork so them saying that sports can help your child develop these skills shows how effective sports can be at teaching kids these …show more content…
Playing sports in high school can help students in many ways and allows them to get more out of there high school experience. Students who play sports in high school are required to meet a minimum GPA to play a sport and keep above this minimum for the entire season. This can motivate students who would normally be falling behind in class to keep their grades up and not fall behind in there classes. There are other rules that most schools have such as requiring students to go to a certain amount of classes a day to be eligible to play this can also motivate kids to show up to class and be a more active member in the classroom. One of the biggest factors to keep there grades up over all the others is that they know they are letting down there coaches teammates and school by not taking care of what they need to to be able to play. This also helps make students balance their time better so that they have time to do there school work and have time to play a sport and not let there team down. Colleges often look for students who participated in extracurricular activities in high school and sports are a great way to show that you did more than just going to class. Playing sports in high school also opens up the opportunity for colleges to recruit them to come play for there school. This can help students who wouldn't normally be able to go to college because they couldn't afford it in getting a higher education.
