...As Tupac Shakur points out in his song “ Keep Ya Head Up” he writes “when he tells you you ain't nuttin' don't believe him and if he can't learn to love you you should leave him” In those lyrics Tupac Shakur identifies the lack of respect that men give women but it is also reminding a woman her self-value. Many people believe that Hip Hop has the ability to connect with the soul. Word Press recently conducted a study and concluded that women are objectified and mistreated in Hip Hop lyrics (Cundiff 13). Hip hop’s derogatory lyrics have effected women’s relationships, body image and self-esteem. Hip Hop lyrics contacting explicit content about women have effected their relationships with men. Some women are infatuated with the Hip Hop artist and the money, cars and lifestyle that they talk about in their lyrics. Women can be oblivious by the lyrics that are being said in Hip Hop songs/ music. They are conforming as well as accepting for Hip Hop artist to degrade them which hinders their relationship with a man by allowing them to be insulting. “Hip Hop is a man’s game”- (Hurt06) Sug Knight , meaning that you have to play the role to get the part, in other words to receive a record deal. Rapper Kanye West wrote a song called “I’m in It”. “Black girl sippin white wine put my fist in her like a civil rights sign” He is clearly stating that it is acceptable to be physically violent with a woman. This type of attitude is what can lead up to abusive relationships. Statistics have...

...Mainstream hip hop music has been the center of criticism and controversy since its origins. The values of hip hop can vary, but the majority of mainstream hip hop does not have as much diversity, when it comes to the values it represents, as other subcultures in the hip hop world. Mainstream hip hop shares many of the same values as the dominant American society, which include the values of respect, money, and power. In the writings of Scott Crossley, he proclaims on the subject of hip hop “Rap’s ability to impact social change is immense, but this success is tarnished given that some of the social changes the rap brings about are arguably negative and counterintuitive” (Crossley 509). Hip hop as a whole has created just as many positive messages as they have questionable messages; but when corporations get involved and the music turns mainstream, the messages become eerily similar. Mainstream hip hop artists have always yearned for respect in the culture. Hip hop artists are always on the warpath for lyrical supremacy, competition has always been a huge part of hip hop. Which ever rapper can recite the most original and exciting lyrics can gain a large audience. Once a rapper has a large fan base, respect is gained from other rappers, media networks, and listeners alike. The art of the “battle” is very much alive in current mainstream hip hop. If a 2 rapper disrespects another rapper or his associates, a “battle” on a record can ensue. Most recently rapper Jay-Z “dissed”...

...To Kill A Mocking Bird BY HARPER LEE Novel Analysis I.BACKGROUND IN FORMATION ABOUT THE AUTHOR Nelle Harper Lee (born April 28, 1926) is an American author known for her 1960 Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird, which deals with the issues of racism that were observed by the author as a child in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. Despite being Lee's only published book, it led to Lee being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom of the United States for her contribution to literature in 2007.Lee has also been the recipient of numerous honorary degrees, but has always declined to make a speech. Other significant contributions of Lee include assisting her close friend, Truman Capote, in his research for the book In Cold Blood. II.INFORMATION ABOUT THE NOVEL Classification- To Kill a Mockingbird is embodied by Atticus Finch, who is virtually unique in the novel in that he has experienced and understood evil without losing his faith in the human capacity for goodness. Atticus understands that, rather than being simply creatures of good or creatures of evil, most people have both good and bad qualities. The important thing is to appreciate the good qualities and understand the bad qualities by treating others with sympathy and trying to see life from their perspective. He tries to teach this ultimate moral lesson to Jem and Scout to show them that it is possible to live with conscience without losing hope or becoming cynical. In this way, Atticus is...

Global Hiphop

...GLOBAL HIPHOP In Hishaam Aidi's "Leveraging Hip Hop in US Foreign Policy" Aidi makes it evident that hip-hop has grown to become such a global upfront form of expression. To the extent where hip-hop has become America’s main resource to connect with the youth and give the struggling youth of America and all over the world the aspiration to dream. Hip-hop along with any other genres of music such as jazz all serve a purpose in this world, which is for the artist to share their story and for the listeners to relate. However hip-hop has become mostly known to be more of a self-expression for those who grew up in low-incoming areas and have lived the life of poverty. This is the main reason why the revolution of hip-hop holds so much power and the reason why so many young people support hip-hop globally. As a hip-hop head myself, we fall in love with this idea of self-expression, even if it means having to be rebellious and disrespectful at times if that is what it takes to get our point across. However, as Aidi said in "Leveraging Hip Hop in US Foreign Policy,” “But the role of music should not be exaggerated: Hip hop did not cause the Arab revolts any more than Twitter or Facebook did.” In this statement, Aidi displays how hip-hop can only hold such an unbelievable power of self-expression, however, does not hold responsibility nor enough power to cause any global revolts as seen in Saudi Arabia. Yet due to these revolts, its gives hip-hop artists from these countries...

...music bring about emotions and feelings among the human beings. In this article, the theme of race come out clearly through the two articles. Hence, this paper will focus on the theme of race and its effect in relation to poetry and hip hop music as brought out by the author Audre Lordes and The JBHE Foundation article. Though there are similarities and differences by the two authors, the theme clearly stands out in both. The article, ‘Poetry is not a Luxury’ by Audre Lordes is analyzed together with the article "Can Hip-Hop Be the New Driving Force behind Increased Racial Integration?" by The JBHE Foundation to find a common theme that relates to both articles. The first essay talks about poetry and women while the second essay talks about hiphop. Poetry is something fundamental and important to the human (particularly female) condition as opposed to a recreation movement. It is the path of womanhood, and the feelings brought by poetry is so effectively ready to express an immediate connection to the aged society. This aged association is kind of antitoxin to the ills of present-day life, which incorporate an unfortunate concentrate on the benefit, direct power, and the institutional dehumanization. Is poetry a luxury? What does poetry relate to women? How does Hip hop music affect the increased racial integration? What if there was no poetry and hip hop music. These questions can be answered and analyzed through Lorde’s and The JBHE Foundation, Inc articles. Both Hip...

Exchanging the Currency of Authenticity

...Dec 6 2001 Exchanging the Currency of Authenticity: Live Performance and Mediatization in Hiphop Culture Baba Brinkman 0135748 Welcome to the wonderful World of entertainment Where art imitates life And people get famous Welcome to the world Of show-biz arrangements Where "lights, camera, action" Is the language. -Jurrasic 5 Performance studies in the last few years has begun to reject essentialist notions of live performance as ontologically distinct from the influence of recorded media, or mediatization. Philip Auslander deconstructs the traditional binary of live versus mediatized forms in his recent study, Liveness: Live Performance in a Mediatized Culture. Since hiphop culture and rap music originated in a post-industrial urban setting, they have always been inherently mediatized to some degree. However, if there is no unmediatized performance in hiphop culture, a huge premium is still placed on immediacy. Since the appearance of rap records in the late seventies and MTV rap music videos in the mid-eighties it has become increasingly easier for rap artists to achieve success without having to first build a local following. In response to this phenomenon, music critic Nelson George has made a political analogy: recorded media "has made rap more democratic--but is democracy good for art? Hiphop was, at one point, a true meritocracy"(George 113).i Hiphop culture struggles between its status as meritocracy and its status as democracy, and this dichotomy...

Mainstream Hip Hop Culture

...the Kool Moe Dee, DJ Kool Herc and so on , I would like to also mention some other great artists that brought hiphop to the peak of its Fame. These artists include Tupac Shakur, NWA, Notorious B.I.G, Lauryn Hill , Ahmad, and the similar styles of J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar. The reason why I chose these particular artists is to represent the face of Hip Hop in my research project is because through their work, they have represented what the creation of hiphop was meant to symbolize. They use Styles similar to The Jive talkin South African American and storytelling from African descent with rhythmic beats over the music to help people understand their storyline and the struggles they were facing. As mentioned before, Hip Hop started in New York as a way for the Youth to have a non-violent way to settle their disputes. Just like when hiphop first again with the activist in the 1960s bringing awareness to social and political Topix, these artists have also address social and political topics to their listeners. They are one of the main reasons why Hip Hop was at its prime and people were starting to be aware of what was going on and the music was a way to bring everyone together since we're all pretty much going through the same thing and we can feel the emotions of the artist speaking to us. Now with the list of names I presented for the artists who have influenced hiphop the most of the names of J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar. So they've only been artist for a short time, their messages...

Ngunit patuloy...
