The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), an ACO is considered an organization of health care providers that agree to be accountable for the quality, cost, and overall care of Medicare beneficiaries who are enrolled in the traditional fee-for-service program. This paper identifies the differences between HMO’s and ACO’s but also correlates the similarities between ACO’s and Patient Center Medical Home (PCMH). The ACO’s place a degree of financial responsibility on the providers in hopes of improving care management and limiting unnecessary expenditures while continuing to provide patients freedom to select their medical services.
