Alfred Hitchcock is an amazing filmmaker who finds great inspiration in an amazing artist, Edward Hopper. Hitchcock imitates Hopper’s work in many of his films. In the movie Rear Window, Hitchcock uses some of Hopper’s paintings that give off an unsettling feeling. In the movie Vertigo, Hitchcock creates feelings of isolation and imitates the scenery in Hoppers paintings. Both films contain moods, sceneries, and visual imagery that are similar to some of Edward Hopper’s best works of art. Compare scenes from the film Vertigo and Hopper’s paintings. Not only does the film portray sexual obsession, it also conveys isolation and anxiety. The realm Hopper evokes, a distinctly personal vision with the impact of intense colors and figures that are established strongly, is offset by the introspective melancholy that is so profoundly characterised by the individuals in his paintings. The strong lines emphasize the impression of alienation. This is immediately clear while looking at Hopper’s painting “Nighthawks” and or “Automat”. Both paintings are similar in mood and theme. Hitchcock imitates these paintings when Jimmy Stewart follows Kim Novak around to analyse her odd behavior and activities. Also, Hitchcock imitates the aggressive color palette and atmosphere of “Western Motel” and “The City”. These paintings are shown at any outdoor or bright sunlight scene in the film. Edward Hopper has long been called a voyeuristic painter who stands outside, looking in at his

subjects, often in private at night. Naturally, that brings the film Rear Window to mind Hitchcocks testament on the subject. The film and the works of Hopper are both concerned with isolation. Looking at “Early Sunday Morning” there is not a warm, fuzzy sense of community. Likewise, in Rear Window, the occupants of the apartments are isolated from each other. Many of Hopper’s paintings portray New York City lifestyles and “Night Windows” is no exception. In the painting, the woman is completely unaware of the stage she is on, and furthermore, is unaware of the front row seat its observer occupies. Its semierotic story is shown in Rear Window, and captures vividly the experience of living in New York City. “Apartment House” is also another similarity to Rear Window/ Not only is the scene voyeuristic, but the apartments proximity to other buildings remind us that it is less a home and more of a fishbowl. After tons of research, I have found something very interesting about the relationship between Hopper and Hitchcock. There is one image that, to my knowledge, Hopper never painted. If his subjects ever caught him peeking, he never recorded it. But in Rear Window, Thorwald catches Jefferies in his tracks. And when he looks straight across the courtyard at him, it is one of the films most chilling moments. The Moral of Rear Window (if there is one exactly) is that we are all voyeurs. Hitchcock calls us out on it. The connections between Alfred Hitchcock and Edward Hopper do not stop there. There are many more similarities and imitations in the films where Hitchcock shows his inspiration. Hopper is an inspiration to all imaginative artists and will always serve as an example of true art. Hitchcock is a master filmmaker with the creativity to not only create his own original masterpiece, but to imitate others strong works of art.

Analyse Citizen Kane

Film History

In 1941, that film was Orson Welles’s Citizen Kane. Welles produced, directed, wrote, and starred in the movie at age twenty-five, playing a newspaper magnate from a young man to old age. While the movie was not a commercial success initially (powerful newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst, whose life was the inspiration for the movie, tried to suppress it), it was critically praised for its acting, story, and directing. Citizen Kane’s dramatic camera angles, striking film noir–style lighting, nonlinear storytelling, montages, and long deep-focus shots were considered technically innovative for the era. Over time, Citizen Kane became revered as a masterpiece, and in 1997 the American Film Institute named it the Greatest American Movie of All Time. “Citizen Kane is more than a great movie; it is a gathering of all the lessons of the emerging era of sound,” film critic Roger Ebert wrote.1 CHAPTER 6 ○ MOVIES 185 (c) Bedford/St. Martin's bedfordstmartins.com 1-457-62096-0 / 978-1-457-62096-6 MOVIES A generation later...

He holds his head low over his double Scotch, but every few minutes he glances up and out, behind him, towards the door. A fine sheen of perspiration glistens under the strip-lights. He lets out a long, shaky breath, disguised as a sigh, and turns back to his drink. ‘Hey. Excuse me?’ I look up from polishing glasses. ‘Can I get another one here?’ I want to tell him it’s really not a good idea, it won’t help, it might even put him over the limit. But he’s a big guy and it’s fifteen minutes till closing time and, according to company guidelines, I have no reason to tell him no, so I walk over, take his glass and hold it up to the optic. Bloodlines of the Illuminati

...Bloodlines of Illuminati by: Fritz Springmeier, 1995 Introduction: I am pleased & honored to present this book to those in the world who love the truth. This is a book for lovers of the Truth. This is a book for those who are already familiar with my past writings. An Illuminati Grand Master once said that the world is a stage and we are all actors. Of course this was not an original thought, but it certainly is a way of describing the Illuminati view of how the world works. The people of the world are an audience to which the Illuminati entertain with propaganda. Just one of the thousands of recent examples of this type of acting done for the public was President Bill Clinton’s 1995 State of the Union address. The speech was designed to push all of the warm fuzzy buttons of his listening audience that he could. All the green lights for acceptance were systematically pushed by the President’s speech with the help of a controlled congressional audience. The truth on the other hand doesn’t always tickle the ear and warm the ego of its listeners. The light of truth in this book will be too bright for some people who will want to return to the safe comfort of their darkness. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I deal with real facts, not theory. Some of the people I write about, I have met. Some of the people I expose are alive and very dangerous. The darkness has never liked the light. Yet, many of the secrets of the Illuminati are locked up tightly simply because secrecy is a way...
