...Book Review on Karen Armstrong’s Islam: A Short History and Stephen Tomkins’ A Short History of Christianity Religion is a set of beliefs followed by a group of people and it usually involves a set of moral codes and devotion to a greater force. The vast amount of religions allows individuals to identify themselves within the values of certain doctrines. By analyzing two books whose main subject is religion, it was possible to learn and comprehend two of the most popular religions in the world. Stephen Tomkins’ A Short History of Christianity is a non-biased text where he carefully and meticulously explains the rise of Christianity as well as taking in consideration some other beliefs. On the other hand, Karen Armstrong’s Islam: A Short History, is a text that aims to diminish existing misunderstanding and misinterpretations of one of the world’s most important religions. For people who do not know much about the history of Christianity, Stephen Tomkin’s book is an excellent starting point, since it goes back to when Christians were Jews and both religions were considered the same yet “just one more new version of the faith of Jesus”(Tomkins, 76). It is important to say that people, who already know the Bible can also read this book for it gives specific details, and it accounts some historical limitations as well. For instance, he talks about Paul, one of Jesus’ apostles, and the letters he wrote to the church, telling and reminding people of God’s son’s miracles...

...1. FLC allows us to view the multiple entrances and exits that individuals make within the family of origin. It helps depict not only the changes in the structure of the family, but also insights into emotional transactions in the family status. Associate with FST and Satir’s mobile model, there must be changes and imbalance of homeostasis when a new system is formed. Those changes include changes in roles, which lead to rule changes, as well as changes in boundaries. According to SI, all those changes bring in individual meanings to couple relationships. Associate with the Circular Causality model, in order to balance the system, the loop has to be broken. That is why we must establish marital roles and marital boundaries. It is also important to manage our financial properties, and foster a healthy emotional climate. It is also challenge of blending culture and religion in marriage. Interracial marriage indicates partners are of different races while interfaith marriage indicates partners are from different religions. 2. 3. In the beginning of the movie, Katie mentioned a plastic spoon that the couple cared so much. She didn’t know when the spoon became just a spoon. We can tell that she cared so much about it not because of its physical value but the meaning and history behind it. The S.I theory tells us that the entire identity of a couple is based on meaning. And that’s what makes their relationship so distinct from others’. Every time when they see...

...v _ __________________________________________________________________________ Preface No programming technique solves all problems. No programming language produces only correct results. No programmer should start each project from scratch. Object-oriented programming is the current cure-all — although it has been around for much more then ten years. At the core, there is little more to it then finally applying the good programming principles which we have been taught for more then twenty years. C++ (Eiffel, Oberon-2, Smalltalk ... take your pick) is the New Language because it is object-oriented — although you need not use it that way if you do not want to (or know how to), and it turns out that you can do just as well with plain ANSI-C. Only object-orientation permits code reuse between projects — although the idea of subroutines is as old as computers and good programmers always carried their toolkits and libraries with them. This book is not going to praise object-oriented programming or condemn the Old Way. We are simply going to use ANSI-C to discover how object-oriented programming is done, what its techniques are, why they help us solve bigger problems, and how we harness generality and program to catch mistakes earlier. Along the way we encounter all the jargon — classes, inheritance, instances, linkage, methods, objects, polymorphisms, and more — but we take it out of the realm of magic and see how it translates into the things we have known and...
