Advanced Marketing Analysis and Strategy

Introduction
Hobart Corporation developed a solid reputation in the food service and retail sectors for more than a century. Hobart was concerned about low cost competitors from overseas manufacturers. Hobart tried to counter this threat by re-positioning their brand as a thought leader.
Primary Problem
Hobart’s decision to reposition itself as the thought leader failed to leverage their product line, which had a solid reputation for quality and reliability. Hobart’s fear was lower cost competition from overseas. Some questions asked are: * Why do our customers buy our products? * What are the perceived attributes the customers have about Hobart? * What attributes did the lower cost products have that customers favored?
Hobart could have stretched the brand vertically by creating a sub brand to compete in the lower cost market. Combining brand and focus on attributes of the overseas competitors, Hobart could have leveraged their experience and manufacturing processes in creating a different product line in a lower price point to compete against the cheaper overseas products. Successful implementation could have led a natural progression of sales to the premier product line, (example Scion to Toyota to Lexus).

Secondary Problems
1. Hobart’s decision to become a thought leader should have played a secondary role in their rebranding process. The decision to become a knowledge base is compelling and solid, in that it positions Hobart as an expert in their field. However, the knowledge base should have focused how a Hobart product provides benefits in production and efficiency to the end user.
2. Hobart’s change in advertising focus as a though leader, sends a confusing message to the customer. Is Hobart a quality manufacturer of industrial food service products or a

Oh Mary Don't You Cry Any More

...Oh Mary don't you cry any more (4 hours) by Fay Weldon The novella/story takes place in Hobart, the biggest city and also the Capital of Tasmania which is a part of Australia. The year when the story takes place is in the middle 1980s. They live in the greatest city in Tasmania, so there must certainly live a lot of different people to socialize with. All around the social background must be all right. They live in a good town with a lot of people, they have many friends and has a lot of support from family and the community/neighbors. The adults around them are also a positive influence of how to behave and how life should be lived. The mother – Shirley, is a very positive/optimistic person, she sees everything on the bright side. She has 2 daughters with her former husband “they are separated” who is an engineer. Shirley does everything for her kids with a mother’s love, she only wants the best for them. Shirley’s girl – Gracie, she’s kind of a wonder-child and by saying that when comparing to Lisa, that on the other hand really works hard with homework, doing the piano and trying to win her mothers attention, then Gracie is just a slacker born with talent. Lisa and Gracie they are sisters and as sisters they have sort of a competition minded relationship, take for an example when...

Winning the Sydney to Hobart- a Case Study in Project Management

...Winning the Sydney to Hobart- A Case Study in Project Management Lynn Crawford, University of Technology, Sydney PMI Proceedings, 1993, pp. 53-59 INTRODUCTION Campaigning for an ocean classic yacht race is a project. The campaign has a starting point, which can be defined, and the end of the race is the end of the project (1). It involves a process, which requires management if the objectives are to be defined and achieved. Unlike many other projects where success may be open to debate and achievement of objectives may be unclear this is a project in which project success or failure is as clear as the race results. As an interesting and atypical project type, it provides excellent opportunities to illustrate, examine, and question the application and operation of the project management framework. The project was successful. The objectives were achieved; the races were won. This paper will briefly present, as a project, the campaign, which culminated in the winning of both the 1992 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and the 1992 Kodak Asia Pacific Ocean Racing Championship. The phases of the project life-cycle-concept, development, execution, and finishing (2); the four basic project management functions-management of scope, quality, time, and cost; and the other essential project management functions-human resource management, communications management, contract/procurement management, and risk management-will be discussed in relation to the project...

Humorous Wedding Speech

...Good evening Class of 2017! It is with immense honor that I am on this podium addressing you tonight. To assist me up here, I'd like to invite Señor Hobart. [Pull out stuffed monkey.] Orange like a Husky see. First, a little about Señor Hobart. He hangs over me every night, ensuring that I sleep soundly. A little, orange monkey to ward away the evils in the dark. As a freshman, I was cleaning out my closet but couldn't bear to let him go. Two reasons: he's memorabilia that allows me to reminisce simpler times, and also an opportunity for reflection to see far how I've gotten. By reminiscing, we're able to enjoy the times that mean so much to us. From confused freshmen and aspiring sophomores to grudging juniors and relieved seniors, we've accomplished...

William Mckinley's Assassination

...years later in 1873 they had another daughter named Ida. Ida unfortunately died at the age of 4 and a half months old. Also, that same exact year Mckinley’s wife’s mother died. This caused Mckinley’s wife to have lots of depression, which soon got her phlebitis and epilepsy. These things soon resulted in Ida becoming a semi-invalid that was in need of constant care. A couple of years after Mckinley’s marriage, he was elected the 25th President of the United States of America. He went into office on March 4, 1897 (with Garret Hobart as his Vice President) and lasted until September 14, 1901. The same year Mckinley went into office he issued the Dingley Tariff, which stated that gold will be the standard of the U.S. money system. In 1900, Congress approved of this and passed the Gold Standard Act. Mckinley’s Vice President Garret Hobart died in office in 1899, which caused Theodore Roosevelt to step in and become the new Vice President. A year before Hobart died, Mckinley sent a ship, the USS Maine, to Cuba for protection of American interests. Unfortunately, on February 15, 1898 the Maine exploded, killing 266 out of 354 men that were aboard. A little while later, on September 6, 1901, Mckinley was shot in the stomach by Leon Czolgosz. The day before Mckinley got shot everyone was celebrating 100 years of progress in North and South America. This event was held at that Pan American Exposition which was a World Fair that lasted from May 1st-November 2nd of 1901. Mckinley had surgery...

Stnadardized Testing: Good or Bad?

...Standardized Testing: Good or Bad? Education is the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge. We all crave knowledge, we all learn new things every day, and we all make decisions based on our knowledge. It comes to no surprise that a major part of our lives is education, from pre-k to graduate school. Being successful in our education consists of hard work, a little luck, and now, more importantly than ever, being able to pass exams. Tests are one of the only ways to see how well we understand a subject and in many instances, can either make you or break you. Testing, however, should be based on the individual, where differences in the way students learn should be taken into account. As of several years ago, however, our education system has moved away from this individual approach, and has adopted a broad and general way to measure success: standardized testing. We have all taken standardized tests at point in our lives, be it the FCAT or the SAT which had a huge influence on which colleges we were accepted to. There is no argument that standardized testing does have its advantages, such as allowing schools and states to compare their education systems to one another, however, standardized testing being implemented as a major factor in our education has overall had a negative impact on education. The use of standardized testing in deciding whether a student passes or fails is simply wrong. Standardized testing should not be implemented into our school systems...

Dates of Acts

... Church tradition is external evidence that has been supported by Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Eusebius and Jerome. An interesting fact that Battle brings up is the earliest copies of Luke’s Gospel has the title Kata Loukan, “According to Luke.” Battle goes further to provide internal evidence and references work by John C. Hawkins, Horae Synopticae. A point that supports the authorship of Luke is found in the “we sections.” Part of the understanding of the we sections can be attributed to being a companion of Paul. The author of Acts is using we to reference the work and witness of himself and Paul, Acts 16:10, 20:5-21:18 and 27:1-28:16. Perhaps one of the most compelling is the demonstration of linguistics and order. W.K. Hobart wrote, The Medical Language of St. Luke, and compared 400 medical words that occur in Acts with the vocabulary of Greek physicians. The findings were astonishing and related much of the linguistic to a physician. In looking at those who were companions of Paul the only one who was a physician was Luke. The systematic approach to the historicity of Luke as well as attention to detail is evident of one who has a scientific background. 2....

Puppy Farming

...The Letter to the Editor, by Carlie Towns, published in ‘The Hobart Mercury’, on July 18, 2015, argues very strongly against ‘Puppy Farming’, whilst also questioning the source of pets in many pet shops. This is an issue that has been much discussed in the media recently and Towns is tapping into the general concern about the treatment of breeding dogs, simply to provide puppies for sale to an unsuspecting public. In a bitterly-attacking and assertive tone, Towns directs her piece to parents, pet lovers, pet shop owners and the general public, challenging them to question the mistreated and exploited. She also argues that the general public is often unaware of the source of the animals they later purchase and that making money from the sale...

What Is The Difference Between Australia And New Zealand

...Australia's Neighbours New Zealand Australia and New Zealand flag share some seniority because Australia and New Zealand are countries that were previously under the British rule and therefore, it is no wonder their two national flags are quite similar in many ways. However, if one looks more closely, certain subtle difference between Australia flag and New Zealand flag can be noted. While the Australian flag features the Commonwealth Star, the New Zealand flag does not have it. This is because the Commonwealth star is a symbol of Australia. The Australian’s flag’s Southern Cross has four seven pointed stars and one with five; the New Zealand flag has only four five pointed stars. The Australian flag has the Southern Cross in white; the New...
