When attending a college is it fair for students to work in teams or alone when 30% of the grade is from learning teams? Many students at the University of Phoenix use the learning teams as a crutch because he or she does not participate as much and still receives the same grade as others who work hard. Because of this many students decided to leave the University and find other colleges who do not work in learning team. However, there are many students who like working in learning teams because he or she can learn from others and has someone to call on when the workload is heavy. With this research the question still remains is learning teams effective at colleges, and do learning teams hinder the University of Phoenix retention rate? This paper will research a question, discuss the dilemma, describe the dependent, and independent variables, and give the data collected methods.

Dilemma
According to Dr. Cherry (2007) the workforce is leaning toward team building and the students of University of Phoenix will have an advantage in the workplace. In a recent study conducted on graduates and undergraduates students researchers found students in upper graduate’s courses prefer learning teams because it is consistent, grows collaborative skills, and provides students with a built-in support system. However, in the undergraduate level the teams are not consistent many of the students believe it was unfair to over achievers to have lazy students with 30% of the student’s grade relying on teamwork. Has homework kept you away from that? Kids hate homework. Some kids say that homework is just what they learned in class the same day and they are just repeating it. Why do students need to repeat what we did in class that day? Is it necessary? Some reasons why homework is not effective is that many teachers give too much homework, and often teachers do not coordinate the quantity given.
