...Homo Erectus Through Paper The study of our evolution is very much an open book, which seems to me is having its chapters being written out of order and has no ending. Because we are trying to trace history that there is no history of, it is like we are trying to solve a mystery and the whole world is our crime scene, and oh yeah it's dozens of feet under ground! There seems to be theory after theory and many skeptics, but I believe it to be much simpler than it all seems. The first trace of humanity all comes back to Africa and that is where it all began, as the environment evolved so did we, into different species dependent on natural selection, ultimately ending with us, well for now. If you had what it took you would prevail, if not you died out. Once the woodlands begin to die we traveled to survive. Sure some probably stayed for others emigrated out of Africa to find better food sources. It is true with any animal that you follow the food. The findings at Dmanisi seemed to shake up what we thought was true at one point. Inside of layers of basalt and ash, a team of archaeologists found thousands of stone tools animal fossils and four skulls, two of which were considered "The Old Man and the teenager" (family ties). What was interesting about the findings was, one they seemed to be a hybrid between a Homo habilis and Homo erectus, and two their age! ...Its been a short 10 years since ive joined scouting, but those 10 whole years are saturated with the funniest, wackiest, inspiring and eye opening memories that you couldn’t get from anywhere else. WE put Daniels Gatorade in a mud wasp nest and he retrieved it with his shirt over his head “for protection”. He got stung, so he chucked the Gatorade bottle and nailed Jeremy right in the nose. Or when Jeremy and I made a rope swing over a 7 foot rocky ravine. Or when I was spar pole climbing at philmont. I remember hiking red creek with Christian and panning for gold. ...East Africa. It has to be at least 2.3 million years in the past. Its definatly a lot colder than in the future. The air feels really dry as if there was no moisture. Looking around I see the savanna luscious with vegetation. I spot a man or what looks like a man walking towards a group of trees holding what appears to be some sort of hammer or club. I slowly approach him and start to follow him and I discover a small village of sorts. This must be where the Homo erectus lives. The adults are roughly five to six feet tall but they have narrow hips. However they’re legs were denser. They’re heads have a less spherical and more elongated shape and suggest lower mental capacity. Their weight ranges from 88 to 150 pounds. I have noticed that they also have sweat glands meaning that they are able to cool themselves down in hot weather. They were hunter-gatherers or foragers. They lived in groups and worked together to survive. The males would typically go hunt while the females would gather vegetation like fruits and nuts and would process the meats that were gathered earlier. The females would also take great care in their week and young members. This would ensure optimal survival for their species... They would live in crudely made huts out of large tree branches. Each of the branches would be stuck into the ground and surrounded by rocks to prevent them from moving. Each of these huts were roughly tent shaped... Auf seinem Weg wird er von seiner Vergangenheit eingeholt und wird mit verschiedenen Lebenssituationen konfrontiert wie Liebe, Krankheit, Verlust wie aber auch mit Erkenntnis. In den nachfolgenden Paragraphen werde ich versuchen auf die Passage auf Seite 150- 152 des Romans genauer einzugehen. In der uns gegebenen Textpassage handelt es sich um ein Rückblick von Walter Faber und Sabeth die in Korinth angekommen sind und den Tag damit verbrachten die Gegend zu erkunden bis sie sich Mitten in der Nacht auf einem Berg stehen sahen und sich entschlossen in der Freien Natur zu übernachten. In dieser Zeit sind sich Sabeth und Faber näher gekommen. Die Sprache/Ton des Ich- Erzählers Walter Faber ist sehr Sachlich und in der sprachlichen Gestaltung schon zu beginn klar vorgegeben, da der Untertitel "Ein Bericht" dem Leser schon erahnen läst das es sich um eine Erzählung einer art handeln wird.
