Furthermore, marriage is portrayed as a crucial tool in the gaining of power, as it plays an extremely important role in Alyson’s “wynning” of status and money, as without her husbands one would be without these fortunes. However, the Wife’s dominance and power is questioned by the raw youth of her later husbands, as one experiences the endearing aspect of her fifth husband, Jankyn, as he represents the power left in the patriarchal hegemony of the era, withdrawing all the previously gained power the Wife had obtained. Dolf moet om vijf uur weer terug zijn op een bepaalde plaats, als hij er dan niet is kan hij niet meer teruggeflitst worden. Maar als Dolf op die plek komt wordt hij gehinderd door een grote groep kinderen en kan hij die plaats niet bereiken. Nu moet hij in de Middeleeuwen blijven. Hij gaat ’s avonds samen met Leonardo bij de grote groep kinderen slapen. Die blijken een kinderkruistocht te vormen. Deze kruistocht is bedoeld om Jeruzalem te veroveren van de Saracenen. De stad Spiers sloot de poorten en daarom moesten de kinderen in het veld blijven slapen. Die nacht treft een groot onweer de stad waardoor er verschillende huizen in brand vliegen. De burgers denken dat het de straf van God is en daarom komen ze de kinderen de volgende dag eten brengen. De volgende dag besluiten Dolf en Leonardo ook met de kinderkruistocht mee te gaan. Bij Spiers ontmoette Dolf, die zich nu Rudolf Wega van Amstelveen noemt (dat is een middeleeuwse naam), ook een meisje, ze heet Mariecke. Dolf blijft de hele kruistocht voor haar zorgen.
