Were you ever given the opportunity to go back in time? Freshmen year, my mother said “no” to furthering my education when I asked her if I could stay at Maryvale High School for the honors program. Instead, she informed me I would attend a charter school nearby that didn’t offer any sort of honors courses. Subsequently, I didn’t feel cognitively challenged so now my educational goal is to challenge myself. My career goal is to become an actor. Now that I have the possibility to be tested in the honors program at Phoenix College, I want to take the opportunity at what I wasn’t offered. After studying your website and asking peers questions regarding this program, I feel that the President’s Honors Program will benefit me.
My educational goal was always to challenge myself but I never felt that I was tested at the charter high school I attended. I aim surround myself with classmates …show more content…
This program will expand my ability to work independently which is an asset to any aspiring actor because only he is responsible to make his passion for a career in this industry an actuality. Time is the one thing everyone in this world has equally, yet some accomplish more than others. Aspiring to become an actor means auditioning for roles, acting classes, building your resume, and working to support yourself, so if I want to be success in my profession, I need time-budgeting skills. Sometimes tasks like learning your lines for a role or trying to understand the character you’re playing is complicated and learning them fast is nearly impossible but with assignments as practice, I will be able to overcome it. Acceptance of disappointment and learning to bounce back is one of, if not, the most important skills to own. Now that I have the opportunity to “go back in time” and experience what I wasn’t offered in high school, I hope to not be told “no”

The Pyschology of Writing

...“The Psychology of Writing” The writing process is an in depth and complicated method that helps a writer to compose a paper from beginning to end. The writing process is ongoing and it occurs more than once while writing a paper. This process helps the writer present information in an accurate and precise manner. There are three stages to the writing process. The three stages are planning, translating, and reviewing. Planning is a composing process during which you generate information and strategies, as well as set goals and solve problems. Translating is the execution of plans into writing that others will understand. Reviewing is the process in which you evaluate ongoing writing plans and translations. Together, these three stages make up the writing process. In my professional life, I have used the writing process many times. Being in the military, there are many schools that you have to go to in order to advance your career. One of the last schools you attend is the Senior Leaders Course. During this school, one of the tasks that must be completed in order to graduate is to write an essay on a specific issue in today’s military. This paper is very important. Not only is it a requirement to graduate, but it also helps distinguish who will graduate with honors and who will not. The topic I chose to write about during the Senior Leaders Course was the quality of this generation’s soldier against soldiers that had joined the military in the past. The...

Applied Education

...Michelle Kyriakides Career Services Director, Experimental Learning Saint John’s University 8000 Utopia Parkway Queens NY 11439  Dear Ms. Kyriakides, It is in the nature of Saint John’s University to always enhance, educate and strive for excellence in all aspects. Career Services is a vital department of the university that is not being used to its fullest potential. While a number of students are continuing to graduate with a diploma of academic success, many still are not prepared for the real world. Majority of students spending an entire semester absorbing lectures and solely taking notes, to simply be tested. This does not qualify as a complete educational experience. While learning through lectures and studying is important, it should not encompass a hundred percent of a college semester. This repetitive form of learning is not thoroughly benefiting students. There is a significant piece of the puzzle that is absent from the university: Experience. I am calling this issue to your attention because a project of this scale would need funding from the department. Using the program “Applied Education”, designed to combine coursework and fieldwork into a holistic educational experience could be a benefit to you. I understand that you assure SJU students are receiving the best advice to compete in today's global marketplace. It was through your innovative new model, that the university has significantly increased student engagement with Career Services across all...

Plag

...What are Online Term Paper Mills? Online term paper “mills” which sell finished research essays to students are surprisingly rampant. According to turnitin.org, the leading site in automatic plagiarism detection, 29% of students' essays contain "significant plagiarism" and 1% are fully plagiarized. The Kimbel Library at Coastal Carolina University lists over 250 online sites which sell or give away copies of research papers on all subjects. Owners of these websites report daily emails from students profusely thanking them for their "help." Of course cheating and plagiarism have always been problems in academic environments, but with the internet, it is so incredibly easy to simply grab a paper online when the due dates mount up. Defining Plagiarism Plagiarism is defined as copying someone else's words or ideas without giving them due credit. With the use of online term papers on the rise, it is imperative that teachers educate themselves and their students on what constitutes plagiarism and how to avoid it. For a good start, go here. Why Students Plagiarize. Most of us would agree that plagiarizing violates some basic rules of ethics, and furthermore, nobody would dispute the claim that handing in a paper downloaded from the internet (or copying significant portions of it) constitutes plagiarism. So how do students justify these actions to themselves? Well, many claim that the academic environment places an unreasonable emphasis on both "formal" assessment through writing...

...and squinting at the temperamental sky. It was my first metaphor, although I was unaware of it at the time; I was three years old. Even before I could read, I harbored a natural affinity for the English language, picking up new words easily and using them in unexpected ways. I would string them together like beads on a necklace, carefully selecting and rearranging them for the most ear-pleasing sentence. For me, words were more than a way to communicate - they were a form of art. As I delved into the written word I began to recognize writing as a powerful tool for expression. I turned to poetry and short stories to capture childhood moments, expanding my vocabulary and becoming skilled at transferring raw emotions and ideas onto paper. My parents encouraged me to make frequent trips to the library, and I often staggered home beneath the weight of a pile of novels. When I entered high school as a published author and poet, my writing continued to mature. Although I still marveled at the versatility of language, I now wielded my pen with a more defined sense of purpose. I understood that words could be used for more than the aesthetic appeal that got me through my English essays. They could be used to educate, to inform, and to spread awareness. By junior year, I had transitioned to journalistic writing, and then to more specialized exposition for my advanced science and history classes. I found myself writing more than ten essays and articles a week on topics from...

Final English Paper

...This year, in my English 1302 class, I have learned writing skills that I will utilize for the rest of my college career. Communication through text is a critical skill of modern day society and should rightfully take place as required curricula. I have grown through my efforts as a writer and my increasingly practical knowledge of essay construction, source integration as well as an understanding of the importance of this course. In my post-diagnostic examination, I received 56 out of 74. This was four questions less than my pre-diagnostic examination in which I received 60 out of 74. I feel I have grown as a writer further than just correcting the last minute grammatical and spelling errors in order to complete my final drafts. Instead, I have also blossomed in the skill of communication through my writing. I have learned the required structure of an essay, and how to construct a literature review as well as a researched argument. I still require practice in some areas of grammatical structure, such as comma splicing, as this was a recurring problem and an area of weakness for me. I have learned that a properly formed essay requires an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. In the introduction, the thesis should be clear and is normally located at the end of the introduction. I learned the introduction requires an exigency describing why my topic is significant. In the body paragraphs, topic sentences are crucial. They should point back to the thesis and explain...
