Adversity is something all humans face in their lifetime. Adversity can take many shapes like the loss of a family member, financial problems, or personal health issues. Moving forward from any shape of adversity requires a tremendous amount of strength and determination, but how a person reacts to adversity shapes the success of their future. American actor Kevin Conroy explains adversity exquisitely when he says, “Everyone is handed adversity in life. No one’s journey is easy. It’s how they handle it that makes people unique.” Although knowing how to overcome an obstacle is sometimes tricky, it’s important to always push through. Many of his stories were episodic pieces of writing, so he could use social topics prevalent during the time of printing. He could then create stories and characters that connected to his audience more effectively and also bring light to problems happening at that time. These stories connect Dickens to his public, connect the reader to their problems, and connect the public to the social issues during that time. With that being said, his characters were often extremely relatable and battled adversity that the everyday person would.
