Based on this questioner my learning style is described as multimodal and it was very interesting for me to learn that ,some of the strategies are better use in my learning , than the other .For example on reading and writing my score is the highest and on kinesthetic is the lowest . Verbal learning is a helpful technique and more likable to me, because it involves speaking and writing. I talk to myself through procedures or sometimes use recordings of a materials that I have

The VARK Questionnaire: How Do I Learn Best?

...The VARK Questionnaire NRS 429-VN 0503 The VARK Questionnaire: How Do I Learn Best? VARK refers to the different learning styles a person identifies with and learns about through taking the questionnaire. Different students will have different learning styles which assist them with obtaining the necessary information. After taking the VARK questionnaire, the results showed more of a connection to a kinesthetic learner with a strong leaning towards visual and audio learning. Understanding learning styles will assist in developing effective learning strategies which will improve learning abilities. The VARK questionnaire is a valuable tool, for assisting the learner, in understanding their preferred learning style, and allows the teacher to be able to adapt and improve their way of conveying information. A personal questionnaire will be assessed in order to help discus the purpose of a VARK questionnaire. Kinesthetic (K) is the preferred learning style with a preference for hands on learning. The kinesthetic learning style involves developing experience and knowledge in the area of learning (Gilakjani, 2012). Instead of listening to a lecture or observing someone else demonstrating the material, the kinesthetic learner prefers doing the learning activity in order to gain the knowledge. They prefer using their hands and body in order to focus and learn. This makes sense because retaining information was found easier when allowed to be able to physically engage in the learning...

Refining Solutions

...imperfections and complications and making problems. Original Problem The original issue that I had a problem with was the ability to learn the new 787 Dreamliner in order to complete my statement of work in an efficient amount of time. The initial solution was to pair up with someone that was more knowledgeable in that particular area or system and learn it that way. Several reasons that I was not able to learn this airplane with the time frame given were not enough time, systems were more complex than what I was used to, and also there were too many mechanics that were picked over me to get that job to actually learn it. After looking at the solution that I had decided based upon my time frame, and talking it over with some co-workers I had to rethink my solutions to the problem. Initial Solutions Initial solutions that I seem fit that will benefit my time schedule would be to learn the airplane on my spare time. Playing with the airplane while no one was working was also an option, that way I can see which systems affects each other, and also how to navigate through the navigational computers. Trial and error, by getting a job an playing it by ear. Spend more time researching the components and the kinks to troubleshooting several systems which will then give me some insight on what I am dealing with. Taking home certain information so I can at least study on my days off, that way I am not taking up enough time. Telling the managers to...

America: Dumbing Down Our Students

...a place to learn. It was a place to get smart. Now it has turned into a psychological headquarters. It is like America is saying, “Who cares, as long as our students feel good about themselves.” Schools have stopped teaching important facts. Some teachers do not feel their students need to know what was taught back in the day. According to Charles J. Sykes, “In a 1990 survey of college seniors, 42 percent couldn’t name the dates of the War Between the States within half a century” ( Sykes, 4). Why don’t our teachers care anymore about teaching about important events or even science? Many of them have said it is because they just are not useful facts. I would have to disagree. I believe that you should know the background of this country you live in. I think students need to be taught about our founding fathers. I fear for our future generations. The school systems are dumbing our students down and they are too worried about how the students are feeling than what they are learning. So the question we are all asking teachers along with the school system is, “Why are we allowing students to be dumbed down?” How are we going to elect a president in the future who never had a background in math, science, or most importantly, history? Our future generation does not know what we were taught when we were in school. Some public schools have even removed certain subjects because they are not necessary or the school cannot afford them. Can we put a price tag on education? I would hope...

...Learning Styles Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V Family Centered Health Promotion May 30, 2014 Learning Styles After completing the “VARK Questionnaire: How Do I Learn Best?” I discovered that I am a Multimodal learner. Because I am a Multimodal learner and my scores were equal between Read/write (8), Kinesthetic (8) and Aural (8), with a score of 0 in visual, there is no standout area of learning style for me. A summary of my learning style will include a combination of Read/write, Kinesthetic and Aural. I will include my preferred learning strategies and compare them to the identified learning strategies by the VARK help sheets. I will also discuss how the awareness of individual learning styles, preferences and strategies influence teaching and learning. A person in a position to learn will benefit in processing and retaining information by knowing what their individual learning style is. Also knowing your individual learning style can be beneficial in processing and retaining information based on what the person in the position of teaching is presenting and how they are presenting the material. With that being said, my learning style(s) of Multimodal may adapt to each learning situation. According to the questionnaire, “How Do I Learn Best?” help sheets, “If the teacher, trainer or supervisor preferred a written mode she switched into Read/write for her responses and for her learning” (VARK website). The Multimodal learning strategy is beneficial because it does...

Best Way to Study

...BEST WAY TO STUDY For some time, research studies have concluded that we do not learn / study in precisely the same way. For this brief commentary, I have deliberately grouped both terms as similar. While this common sense approach towards scholarship represents a welcomed message for parents and students, many teachers still teach a large number of pupils one way, more often than not, by using traditional teaching styles that might appear to be successful for the teacher but unsuccessful for a large majority of the youngsters seated in front of them. This is incorrect teaching -- proof that common sense continues to be not all that common within many of today's classrooms. My following commentary attempts to address this key issue, while at the same time, to offer suggestions for possible classroom improvement. If teachers require their students to receive domain-specific information in a way that does not correspond with their dominant learning modalities, to perform under classroom conditions that interfere with their preferred learning, or to demonstrate learning in such a way that fails them to use their more dominant intelligences, then such teachers create within their students forms of artificial stress, reduced motivation, and repressed performance. Along this same line of thinking, there is a considerable body of research evidence suggesting that many special education students who have been formally categorized, for example, as learning disabled (LD) are, in fact...

Learning Style

...learning style? Since I graduated from high school, I have already known the kind of learner I was from how I study for tests to how I comprehend in lectures or discussions in class. Indeed, I am an auditory learner because of the information given after the learning style quiz. An auditory learner is best at listening rather than reading or by visually learning. At first, I was shocked that I was an auditory learner because I thought my results would come out as a multi-sensory learner instead since I “thought” I was good at learning in all ways. But, I know the best “preferred” way I learn is by hearing information. After taking the quiz, I realized I was more of an auditory learner than I thought I was. The results of the quiz described me at most of the main points. If I would have a big test to study for, I am not the best at reading silently or reading quickly while I study. I take my time to read and I do read out loud at a quiet tone, so I can actually comprehend what I am reading rather than reading it quickly and forgetting everything faster. Like most people, I do forget about what I read a few minutes later, so to help me remember important facts I always annotate and write side notes. The other learning styles I have is writing down important facts on index cards and testing myself by reading each definition or fact out loud more than once. From one the questions in the quiz it asked how I memorize a phone number from seeing it and I answered the question by...

Studio

...Studio I honestly don’t really know where to begin with this essay because I have so much to say. I guess I should start by saying that theatre is and has been the biggest and most influential force in my life. Growing up, my parents were determined I was destined to be an athlete. Although at age 4 I was writing my own plays and having each part played by a specific person in my family, they insisted on sports. They put me in every sport they could think of. They were athletes themselves and thrived teaching their kids how to throw a softball or how to serve a volleyball. I went along and played five sports a year until I was ten years old. When I was ten, I got cast as the Wicked Witch of the West in our school play, the Wizard of Oz. If I do say so myself, I stole the show. The feeling of being onstage and performing to ten year old me was just enchanting and I knew it was something I would never be able to let go. I haven’t let it go since to my parent’s dismay. Acting is the most important thing in my life and no matter what I always want to be in rehearsal or in acting class or performing. I think that the Studio program at West Virginia University would be a great place for me because it will help me reach my goals within the university and beyond. One reason I would love to be a part of the studio program is my constant desire for knowledge. As I said before, theatre is the biggest part of my life and my passion for it grows the more I learn. I want to learn everything...

Know Your Role

...Know your role __________________ A Paper Presented to Seminary __________________ In Partial Fulfillment __________________ by In the interest of one adapting their teaching style to become the best possible educator possible, they must first know their role in which they occupy. In the same manner one must also know how to motivate their students both extrinsically and intrinsically. In knowing the differences of motivation the educator must know the dynamics of group motivation and how to employ it, while at the same time understanding the structural factors that make up said motivation. It is in all these areas that an educator can continually reach for perfection. In biblical education the concepts are no different and should only encourage the teacher to do their absolute best to reach perfection. The beginning of the process has to begin with the role of the teacher. Knowing one’s role as an educator is possibly the most important step in educating. If the teacher does not know his or her role as it pertains to the classroom must be clearly defined. The teacher should be seen as the head of the class, but in the same manner the students must know that the teacher is also a learner as well. The students need to feel that they are able to ask questions and not suffer any retribution for challenges to perceived absolutes. The teacher is the role model in the classroom and will be under a close...
