How HOI Honor Band Changed My Life

There are not enough words in the dictionary to explain the impact that you have had on my life. Even since Kindergarten, when we would travel to the fourth grade hallway to sing with your acoustic guitar, you have been one of the greatest role models I could ever possibly ask for. I remember singing that grey squirrel song, or the one where you scared everyone at the end, and countless other silly songs. No matter how crazy they seemed at the time, that was just the beginning of the role that you played in my love of music.
When I entered middle school, I chose to play the saxophone. This meant that I wouldn’t get to spend as much time with you as the brass did, yet you were still there every single step of the way.
High school, however, was a huge turning point in my life. From the day I stepped into the band room you have been an unconditional, constant supporter of everything I do. Whether it is band related, or even just extracurriculars, you …show more content…
Whether it was a simple hug before a competition, or nevering letting me live down the fact that I slipped and fell at HOI Honor Band last year, every day in band is an adventure. An adventure that I am going to miss with all my heart… Thank you for always laughing at our jokes, even if they weren’t funny. Thank you for joining in when giving Kelsey a hard time, laughing at Celeste, or any of our other crazy shenanigans. Thank you for going along with all of my ideas, no matter how insane they seemed to be. Such as allowing me to learn the mellophone in a day to play at pep band, or setting a goal to play a different instrument at every game. Thank you for spending multiple days at auditions or honor bands, even if I was the only student participating - like ILMEA last year when we had an entire bus for two people. Thank you for not even being surprised when I would just walk into your office to talk. I am really going to miss those

Acknowledgements I acknowledge with gratitude the help I have received not only from my family but also from my friends Reg Sones and Hal Summers, who read the book before publication and made valuable suggestions. I also wish to thank warmly Mrs. Margaret Apps and Miss Miriam Hobbs, who took pains with the typing and helped me very much. I am indebted, for a knowledge of rabbits and their ways, to Mr. R. M. Lockley's remarkable book, The Private Life of the Rabbit. Anyone who wishes to know more about the migrations of yearlings, about pressing chin glands, chewing pellets, the effects of over-crowding in warrens, the phenomenon of re-absorption of fertilized embryos, the capacity of buck rabbits to fight stoats, or any other features of Lapine life, should refer to that definitive work.
