Once upon a time in the far away kingdom of Kingdom1 lived a beautiful princess named Sophia. Sophia was adored throughout the kingdom for her bravery, courageousness, and kindness. Her smile was as warm as the sun and her eyes were sparkling like the sea.
However, Sophia was not always happy. She would spend her days away in her castle, stuck in a daze of the life she wished to live. The idea of being a princess did not appeal to her. The dresses were too fancy, the heels hurt her feet, and the makeup seemed like a mask concealing her true identity from the world. She played the typical princess role expected of her, despite her dreams of doing otherwise.
Sophia’s parents the King and Queen of Kingdom1 decided she would be sent away to live in a tower on her 18th birthday. She is to wait for her knight in shining armour to come rescue her. If he is brave enough to get past the gruesome ogre that guards the tower she will be rescued and they will ride off into the sunset together and live happily ever after. Sophia has a different plan in mind for her future.

He had fallen asleep while he should have been guarding the tower. Sophia saw this as the perfect opportunity to take back control of her life and escape. She knew she may never get another chance like this. She gathered her most prized possessions and just before she was about to leave she decided to write a note. Her knight in shining armour would come eventually and he would be wandering where she was. She began to hurry down the creaky stairs of the tower. When she opened the door she felt a thrill of excitement yet fearful of the ogre. He was a light sleeper and could easily be awoken. She tip toed past quieter than a mouse. With each step she took a bigger rick. When she was finally past the ogre she let out a sigh of relief and began to run as fast as she could. She never looked

Analysis of Hawthornes Symbolism

...faces a different issue in which they must make a decision such as one’s that Hawthorne had to make. Some decisions Hawthorne made in his very own life were his families’ beliefs of Puritanism and if he should follow their beliefs, conflicts with learning about his father and grandfather, marrying his wife, and how he remained isolated, a recluse, away from the world. In “Young Goodman Brown,” Hawthorne uses symbolism to tell the story of a young man who goes on a journey from his innocent world into an evil world. In the beginning of the story the reader is introduced to two characters, Young Goodman Brown and his wife, Faith. Hawthorne uses their names as the first piece of symbolism, Young Goodman Brown means a young man, who is good natured, and his last name “Brown” also means he is dull and just blends in the background. Morgan 2 Brown is married to Faith, whose name is also symbolic. Faith’s name is used as not only Goodman Brown’s wife, but it is also used as his faith. This is shown when he says, “My love and my Faith,” (Young Goodman Brown, 58), using his wife’s name and referring to his faith and seeking faith in God. Brown’s marriage to Faith symbolizes how he clings to her for his own faith. Evidence of this is proven when Brown says, “…and after this one night I’ll cling to her skirts and follow her to heaven,”(Young Goodman Brown, 59). Brown is not as pure as Faith is, therefore he feels that because he is married to her...

Health Care Issues in the United States

...in the United States | James Driscoll | Sophia D. Smith 1/23/2011 | 1. Explain how health is affected by behaviors, economics, and social structure.  Health is affected by many different situations in life. The main one is a person’s behavior, a person could choose to be an healthy individual and exercise, eat properly and treat their body as a temple or they could do just the opposite. They could abuse their body and eat unhealthy foods that will later on in life give them so many problems, or engage in risky activities. This can cause sexually transmitted diseases, heart disease, strokes or even cancer. It’s that person’s choice if he or she wants to live long and healthy lives or suffer the consequences of making bad decisions. Depending on the behaviors they make in life has a lot to do with the economy they are in. Economy is not just where that person is at the present state but has a lot to do with their past and how they were brought up. If in their past life they ate a lot of unhealthy foods growing up then that’s pretty much all they know and it’s hard to try new things when your accustom to one way of living. Being able to think outside of the box has a lot to do with a person’s health. If they are able to shy away from what they have grown up with then they are now able to fully understand. It is so much easier to make unhealthy decisions when they are the ones that are shown all over the media. How hard is it to when you’re hungry to go and buy a...

How Did Medieval Architecture Break The Unity In Western Europe?

...of art, including metalwork, relief sculpture, and illuminated manuscripts. Latin cross churches and basilica churches mark the emergence of medieval architecture under the Carolingian Empire. Under the Carolingians, church architecture broke away from the balanced roman proportions to a increasing verticality, meaning the height of the churches grew significantly compared to the length and horizontal dimensions. The face of the church was now called a westwork, for the churches built were facing west. Westworks followed a three-by-three grid with a main entrance and two sub-entrances on each side. The best example of a Carolingian building that is still around today isn’t a church but a chapel. The Palatine Chapel, built for Charlemagne, has sixteen sides and became his final resting place...

...Introduction Ever since I was born on April 15, 1980, I have been raised in a Greek environment, and being Greek-American has played a significant role in my life. In addition, I happen to have a friend named Mehmet, who is from Turkey. But I never knew any information about Turkey until I found this country on a world map. That’s when I learned the following facts: Turkey is located in both Europe and Asia, and it shares a border with Greece. So when I started taking the course Geography of the Middle East at Old Dominion University, I decided to select Turkey for my research paper. Perry Library and Larchmont Library were excellent places for literary materials. I also consulted Internet sources and my class textbook as additional resources. Turkistan, a region in central Asia, is a Persian term which means “Turks’ land” or “land of the Turks”. The Young Ottoman Turks considered this name for their country before they decided on “Turkiye, an adaptation of the European name” Turkey (Lewis 333). Although “[t]he name Turkey has been given to…Anatolia…since its first conquest by the Turks in the eleventh century,” the Turks officially referred to their country as Turkey when it won its independence in 1923. (Lewis 1). Turkey’s relative geographical position distinguished it from most of the other countries of the world. It is situated on two continents: (southeastern) Europe and (southwestern) Asia. European Turkey, or Eastern Thrace, constitutes only...

Victoria's Secret Pink

...Victoria’s Secret Pink: Keeping the Brand Hot Synopsis This case illustrates the general strategy employed by Victoria’s Secret to acquire a new segment of customers through the introduction of its brand Pink. Pink is a line of “loungewear” (sweatpants, T-shirts, pajamas, bras and panties, pillows and bedding) targeted toward 18-30 year old females. The garments feature comfortable cuts and mostly cotton fabrics in bright colors. New garments are introduced every three or four weeks. The image is one of “cute and playful” versus the more overtly sexy image of the core brand. The case highlights the different promotional approaches that Pink managers are taking in contrast to those of the core brand. This is a lifestyle brand. The Victoria’s Secret chain has been a big driver of financial success for Limited Brands (parent company), and Pink is expected to be a big part of Victoria’s Secret’s sustained growth. Not only does it give the chain a new set of customers, but it brings in customers at a younger age who will then “graduate” up to the Victoria’s Secret core brands. The ethics of the Pink strategy are considered in detail. Discussion Questions 1. Analyze the buyer decision process of a typical Pink customer. Effects of Abortion and Adoption

...that is done is not just to the mothers and fathers but also to the children. The damage can have a long and lasting effect on everyone’s life in the situation. The Effect of Abortion and Adoption on the Women of the World Abortion Abortions are not always a medical procedure. There are spontaneous abortions. A spontaneous abortion is the other name for a miscarriage. Abortions can be caused by medication, herbs, doctors, and birth defect issues with the fetus. All of these kinds of abortions can cause mental issues in the expectant mother. Counseling is strongly advised before a voluntary abortion and after a spontaneous abortion. Counseling in abortion clinics The emotional wellbeing of a girl or woman that has had an abortion can be very rocky. The law has a mandatory waiting period. This requires woman to wait up to 24 hours after a counseling appointment to set up the procedure. Some of the counseling laws allow phone counseling. The laws can be very biased. Some states have a prescribed script that is read to the woman. “They consider these scripts “biased” because they contain information that is designed to frighten and dissuade women from having abortions. These coercive scripts are completely incompatible with the goal of true informed consent (Mueller, Dudley, 1997).” The counselors do not really look at the reasons for the abortion. Even the women that are getting an abortion for medical reasons have to hear this script. Because of the way...

Education in America

...Writ 1301 Sophia Andera-Cato Education in America In the words of American philosopher Will Durant, “Education is the transmission of civilization.” To me, this quote represents exactly what education should be in every society. Education is key to the expansion and prosperity of civilization and it is what keeps us, as a human race, growing. All over the world students are learning to improve themselves to eventually improve their society. The problem here is that not everyone values the importance of education as much as they should. From examination of completion rates and analysis of standardized tests, it is clear that America is falling behind many countries, Japan in particular. This disparity between America and Japan is shown not only in academics, but also in competition for jobs. The better the education people achieve, the more advancements the country can have, and the more successful that nation will be as a whole. America needs to refocus its value on education to emphasize its importance to avoid falling behind on a global scale of educated citizens. One of the main reasons America is falling behind Japan is that the high school drop out rate in America is 1.2 million students a year, which is 6,000 students a day (The Broad Center). The fact that this many students are forfeiting their education everyday is disturbing. Students can just ease their way through and earn a high school degree; so dropping out shouldn’t even be an option. In Japan, the drop...
