Technology has had a big impact on the way people lead their everyday lives. The cell phone, I believe, has had the biggest impact on the way we navigate through our daily tasks. There are an estimated 180 million smart phone users in the United States today. Personal relationships, the hours spent working away from the office, and how people pass time are all very different than they were 30 years ago.

Personal relationships, in my opinion, have had the hardest hit when it comes to the advancement of smart phones both bad and good. People take less time out of their day to place a phone call to a loved one and send a text message instead. Dating is also driven by applications that we can download to our smartphone. A person can decide whether or not they want to go on a date with someone based on a profile picture. Applications such as Face time and Skype, on the other hand, have opened a door to a more convenient way to communicate with someone that may be too far away to go visit.

With the advancement of cell phones, it has become harder for people to not work while off the clock. Email, videoconference applications, and simply being able to make a phone call from anywhere have given all of us access to our work any time of day that we want. This advancement has, however, has created pathways for new moms. This allows mom to stay at home and care for her family while allowing her to access her work and continue down her career path.

Applications on cell phones supply us with unlimited entertainment throughout our day. You can scroll thru Facebook, read the news, view YouTube videos, play games, or even read a book. When was the last time you left your cell phone at home? Did you turn around and go back to get it? This little device is very powerful to us. It guides us thru our daily tasks. As entertaining as some of the applications can

Govt & Information Technology

...11/10/13 EMIS Essay #3 Impact of IT On Our Government Information technology has a huge impact not only on our lives but our government as well. It has revolutionized the way our legal system runs and has impacted the way fellow Americans vote in elections. With new technology advances happening daily, our government and the people of this great nation must learn adapt to it and incorporate it into our lives. Barrack Obama once said, “Change will not come if you don’t strive for it. Technology and our government’s legal system must adapt together or no change will ever come” (Brainyquote). When it comes to Information Technology and governments adapting to the advances made in the technology industry, governments usually lag behind and are forced to catch up. And even if they do not want to be involved, they have to because current trends and business practices demand that they conform. In my personal opinion, this leaves governments vulnerable in many ways. With that said, I believe that information technology has had a negative impact on our government and our legal system. The first issue, is that governments are not leaders in technology. They react to the environment around them rather than trying to find new ways of efficiency. This leads to more inefficiency as new systems are confused with old and chaotic situations occur. The second issue, is that governments hold confidential information. As all information becomes digital and available to anyone who wants...

...today’s technology have on our society? The youth of today are constantly immersed in technological advancements that promote nonstop communication and instant gratification, whether through cell phones, gaming systems, laptops, or MP3 players. But most people are asking, are these technological advancements a good thing? Some people believe that the growth of technology has negatively influenced the social interactions of today's youth because it isolates individuals from reality, hinders communication, and perpetuates the concept of immediate satisfaction. As Clay Shirky states in his article, “Cognitive Surplus”, given that there are around 4.5 billion adults worldwide, "we live, for the first time in history, in a world where being part of a globally interconnected group is the normal case for most citizens." There are positive and negative influences with everything, no matter what the topic. But to have a positive impact, it’s how you choose to use the power of today’s technology and how much influence you let it have on your everyday life. Some of the negative influences that the constant use of technology has is it can hinder us from being in the moment, communicating and listening to the people around us, and how teens today constantly rely on their cell phones and the internet. As Maggie Jackson states in her article, “What Are We Thinking?”, “We’re too often sacrificing depth for breadth in the ways we make sense of the world.” We are so constantly in tune to our cell...

Effects of Technology

...Exploratory essay November 12, 2015 Is technology a danger or a solution to our society and our health The development of technology is usually considered good based on the fact that its main purpose is to make people’s lives easier. Nowadays, instead of people using the technology to help them organize their lives, it seems that it’s going the other way around. People became too dependent on technology and are, in a way, ruled by it. Most of the information we receive is through mobile devices or television. Too much time is spent looking at the phone or TV screen, making it dangerous to persons both physical and mental health. On the other hand, technology has helped a lot in many fields such as: medicine, communication, education, and transport, making the life we know today much safer, faster, and easier. The views on technology development are greatly divided. Some of the most popular views are: by people who consider that life without technology would be pointless, unorganized, and chaotic; by people who find using too much technology to be hazardous and believe that it’s making people unhealthier, dumber, and lazier; and by people who think that technology should became better, but only used to assist people and should not become a big part of everyday life. There are many reasons why technology is good and should be used daily. Some people can’t even imagine their day without the use of modern day technology. Computers, mobile phones, tablets, and other devices...

Literally speaking, we are now in the age where everything moves at our fingertips. From gadgets, to internet, agriculture and almost every aspect of our lives technology is confronting us affecting our decisions, affecting even the way how we interact with one another. The days when letters are delivered through postal mail are almost over; the day when communications will take many days to be completed is vanishing; now we are bringing our plants into the laboratory in the hope to cultivate a better species. No matter how we see it, technology now dictates the pace of our lives, and we must adopt and move fast in order not to be left behind. Several questions however remains, does technology influence us so much that it even affects even the core of our humanity? Does technology also dictate our values, morals and ethics? Accompanied by these questions is the responsibility for us to make decisions within the boundary of our ethical standards to negate the negative impacts brought about by the onset of the technological race. While the word ethics has been seen and defined across the centuries, there still is no uniform definition that will describe the word perfectly. In the “Studies of Christian Ethics Syllabus”, Tardo defines ethics as a set of personal values and principles that separate what is viewed as right or wrong and that guide every...

...U.S. Education Today & Tomorrow This paper reviews four important trends in our educational system today across America and discusses the impact of these trends on our future educational system. We live in an ever evolving world with constant changes that are affecting every aspect of our lives daily. Our educational system has not been immune to these changes and shouldn’t be since these changes and our ability to adapt to these changes will determine our future academic success and our place in a global society. Trend 1: Diverse & Older Population America has always been a melting pot of diversity, but current statistics show that in the near future minorities will become the majority percentage of the population (Pearson, 2010). Immigration, legal and illegal, have been substantial for a long time now and is changing the needs that educational systems have to address. For example, the need for qualified and minority teachers who can teach English as a second language will and does continue to grow (Pearson, 2010). Educators will have to adapt to this also by being more sensitive to various cultures and perhaps re-evaluate the current curriculum to promote multicultural literacy. Furthermore, the number of people that will retire will be doubled by the year 2050 and there will be fewer people of working age paying into the tax system that helps support education and elder services (Pearson, 2010). The Harmful Effect of Technology

...THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION The Effects of Technology      There is no escape from technology. In most cases this is not a problem though. Many people respect and admire technology because it is there to benefit them. Without the technological advances we have had over the years, the world would not be what it is today. What people don’t understand is that technology can actually be a bad thing. In society today, people are looking for more and more ways to be entertained, and all it is doing is causing problems. People are doing less and less thinking and more and more watching, listening, and playing, all because of technology. Forms of entertainment like the Internet, television and even video games seem harmless to people, but they are really not. When the Internet was first introduced, people never thought it would be as big as it is today. The Internet is an easy to use technology that can do just about anything. But what people understand is that the Internet is not all good. Much of the information posted on sites on the Internet is merely opinions, not factual information. When people look at this information, it looks and seems like trustful information, but most of the time, it is not.       Although the Internet is a relatively new technology television has been around for about fifty years.
