How to Communicate

The state of affairs that Bill is facing as being a new customer has an amount of sympathy with the new client and the facility. Since Bill has just purchased new merchandise and is getting irritated with the buying process. To retain a well kept and friendly association with Bill being an imminent client and new customer, it is vital to the relationship to be handled with an adequate level of understanding and care. When interacting with Bill on the phone, the information that was given will hold quite a few nonverbal signs not seen. There will be a few cases of suggestions that should be acknowledged and instances of dead silence and just as domineering as an open statement. Bill is really frustrated and stating serious criticisms, and worries which may distract one from the key facts at hand.
Communicating through the phone eliminates many of the bodily functions leading to a link with the customer. Certain physical responses and symbols will be detached such as facial lexes, hand emotions, fiddling or tapping and so on. To comprehend Bill’s temperament, and his complaints, I will have to have an observant ear to successfully create a true service to customer correlation. When stating his main worry I should listen for frequent words and repetitive remarks. I will also have in mind that some customers do not like to reprise, so keeping notes on the discussion is valuable when getting that connection with the client besides soothing the situation. Brief and clear verbal communication is the key in this situation since the telephone is the only audio device. Thinking carefully and talking clearly with a civil and humble tone is imperious of how Bill will begin his dispute. So with a well planned approach for making a relationship with the customer and resolving

According to Professor Gardner, there are eight different intelligences and each of these them have different characteristics that affect the way we perceive things and learn. His research also discovered that we all have multiple intelligences and that the way we learn and communicate directly depends on which of our intelligences are most developed (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007). Of the eight different Intelligences, this paper will focus on only three, Intrapersonal, Verbal-Linguistic, and Visual-Spatial). This paper will attempt to explore how individuals with each of these intelligences can effectively communicate within a group environment, and will also explore the different personality types and how individuals with these personality types can effectively communicate and contribute to any team or group. How to Communicate Effectively With Any Learning Style A Harvard University professor named Howard Gardner discovered in 1983 that there are at least eight intelligences that everyone possesses, but he also stated that some intelligences are more or less developed than others...

How Films Communicate

...How Films Communicate Movie: Secondhand Lions, 2003 Time and Place: This movie is set back in 1962 in the Texas countryside. The house where Walter is staying with his great-uncles is a worn down ranch style home. It looks very poor and there are not many modern-looking things inside the house to include a T.V. His great-uncles are very reclusive and do not have many visitors except the brave salesman that stop by to try to sell them things. Costume: Their clothes are worn out looking and seem to be the wrong size half of the time. They are baggy pants with plain looking button up shirts with suspenders holding everything together. Their boots are old and worn out looking, something you would typically see on a farm style ranch. Set Design: The set, except for a few scenes are mostly taken outside the house in their corn field, barn or front porch. The barn and porch seem to be falling apart and continue to give you the sense that these uncles don't take care of their house. Describe the atmosphere created by the combination of film elements and how they contributed o your liking or disliking the movie: The atmosphere created is that of a poor family living back in the 1960's. The house that they live in is worn down and it seems everything else around them looks as if it want to fall apart as well. The characters do a great job with portraying their certain characters and characteristics and make you think you are actually back in time. With all things...

How to Communicate Effectively

...How to Communicate Effectively BCOM/275 Business Communications and Critical Thinking 19 March 2012 Brian W. Robinson Introduction With regards to demonstrative communication, there is no one specific definition or context as to which this term can be described. Demonstrative communication is a form of communication that takes the form of descriptive facial expressions, body language and dress, to name a few. If a person is very animated they may make you laugh and you may pay very little attention to the point or story they are trying to get across. Effective versus Ineffective Communication With Communication you will use all types of communication in a single sentence. There are your verbal tones, the way you present yourself, the placement of your hands when talking. Do you move your hands around a lot making the listener take cover or, do you keep them in your pocket? These are again, just a few examples of communication. This will ultimately affect the listener subconsciously and consciously and how they take you and your view. People who tell a children’s story are usually, not always, very animated so they can entertain and act out the story they are telling to the children. This is a type of communication that is audience specific. If you are in front of your boss this should not happen, the story should not happen unless asked. Your coworkers might enjoy it but, they might also not take you seriously on another issue. This type of communication...

How Couples Communicate

...How Couples Communicate (Resource: Secrets to Lasting Love, by Gary Smalley)Every relationship is a journey ... through five levels of communication … toward the desired destination of intimacy. This requires effort! Intimacy often does not come naturally because men and women are inherently different. Men tend to desire more independence, whereas women more social interaction. There are five levels of communication: | (1) CLICHES - Typical, routine, oft repeated comments, questions and answers given out of habit and with no real forethought or genuine intent. "How are you?" "Fine." "Having a good day?" "Yes."(2) FACTS - Information/Statistics about the weather, the office, friends, the news, personal activities, etc. Requires no in depth thinking or feeling.(3) OPINIONS - Includes concerns, expectations, and personal goals, dreams, and desires. Due to differences of opinion that naturally arise between two people, especially between men and women, this is typically the level at which we run into the "wall of conflict."(4) FEELINGS - Having gone through the "wall of conflict" via applying the communication skills following, you both feel safe to share your deepest emotions.(5) NEEDS - The deepest level of communication and intimacy where you feel completely safe to reveal your unique needs with each other. How the Visual Arts Communicate

...How the Visual Arts Communicate Carolyn Wood 7-21-15 ARTS/100 ALICE MC BRIDE In the painting of Mona Lisa shows an ordinary women looking directly at you with her hands crossed and a tiny smile. From what I read about this portrait in these times the 1400’s to 1500’s women don’t normally look directly at you and the artist would normally cut off the women’s body to show a close up of the face. The point of this portrait was to make Mona Lisa look as naturally as possible and show that wealth was not important. Apart from the naturalism in the figure, the painting includes a background. If you look over her shoulder to the left side, you see a road that leads to distance, and mountains painted as background. On the right side, we can see a bridge, and a road which leads to sea in the distance. “The contrast between the woman and the background landscape is therefore quite remarkable, and it lends to the power of the painting”. (According to "Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa" (June 21, 2012), what I felt was unique about the Mona Lisa was the artist took a different approach in painting this women he didn’t follow the rules of other artist. He focused on her being simply natural and beautiful. Also he made a wonderful background which makes you think of a happy place some were far away. But his main focus was her ordinary but beautiful look. Next Michelangelo carved a sculpture using a block of Carrara marble. He said it was the most “perfect” block he ever used. His statue...

...The Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall was constructed in 1982 in Washington D.C. and designed by Maya lin. This wall honors the service members who died fighting in the Vietnam War. During the 60’s over one third of Americans were against the war. Because of this, there were groups that lead anti-war protests. Many of these people where again the war because of the draft. I have known many people that where drafted during this time. One of those people was my farter who joined the Air Force because his draft number was up and served in the Vietnam War. I can remember walking in a mall with my dad in the mid 70’s and a woman yelling at him calling him a baby killer. I was only eight or nine at the time but I can still see her yelling today. This is why the wall is so very important to Vietnam Veterans. This wall shows that over fifty eight thousand men and women died for their service during this war. This wall is more than just a large piece of art for many people it is a memorial of their loved ones and friends. The Raft of the Medusa is a painting based on an event during the artist Theodore Gericault’s lifetime. The event was a ship call the Medusa stuck a sand bar and had to be abandon. The captain only let wealthy and well-connected people use the lifeboats. This forced the rest of the crew to make a raft out of parts of the ship. How Men and Women Communicate Differently

... 08/30/2012 How men and women communicate differently? “Man and women are different”, everybody knows that. But when it is about communication, those differences multiply themselves. According to Richard Drobnick, from Mars and Venus counseling center, “he (men) believes that communication should have a clear purpose” while “she (women) uses communication to discover how she is feeling”. It means that men communicate looking for an answer or solution while women communicate to share their feelings and to learn more about their listener. The way men and women communicate with their own gender is different too. Men use lots of trash talk, showing some kind of need to keep themselves at the top of the power hierarchy, and women chitchat and gossip, showing their need to talk about others and share their emotions about it. All those communicating differences can affect the work environment as well. According to Beth banks and Roz Usheroff (authors of “How men and women communicate differently at work”), “male sometimes ask few questions, fearing that doing so will communicate to others that they don`t know something”, meaning that men always want to be the intelligent one people will ask questions for, while woman don`t need this kind of prestige and “try to maintain an appearance of equality among everyone”. To sum up, there are differences between the way genders communicate and it can affect their lives and work. There are also...

What Is Bilingualism and How Do People Communicate Bilingually?

...What is Bilingualism and how do people communicate bilingually? A critical analysis of the topic in the book “Academic Writing: Making the transition” by Steve Marshall. The book has a number of definitions for the term Bilingual. Edwards (1994), states that virtually all people were bilingual in nature. He stated that anyone who can communicate few words of another language is bilingual. This is to say that for example, if someone went on holiday to another country and could exchange a simple greeting in the foreign language, then he would be considered to be bilingual. The writer of the article states that the definition by Edwards is far from what most people consider to be bilingual because most people define bilingualism as the ability to fluently speak two languages. The problem with the Marshall’s statement is that he has not explained how he found out that most people define Bilingualism to be the ability to speak two languages fluently. He simply assumes this without giving conclusive evidence. It would have been better if he would have conducted a research or had the opinions of people on what they considered to be bilingual and would conclude based on the response by the people. Edwards’s definition is also ambiguous because the assumption that simply speaking a word of a foreign language makes one bilingual makes almost all people of the world bilingual because most people know few words of a foreign language and this would mean that everyone is bilingual...

How Social Media Is Changing the Way We Communicate

...What is the first thing you would do if your city’s power went out? Would you light a candle? Reach for a flashlight? Or would you run for your cell phone? Most of us would choose the last option, but without power, most cell phones become useless due to lack of service. Imagine, no connection to the world outside your house. No FaceBook, no Twitter, no Instagram or Pinterest. For most, including myself, that would be a nightmare. As much as it pains me to admit, I am an avid user of all of these social networks. It is interesting to think that there once was a time when writing letters, using only home phones or physically going to see a person were the only means of communication, a time that recent generation children will only learn about from reading history books, or hearing from their families. Today I am going to talk about the good, the bad and the ugly aspects of social networks. The good being origins and advantages, the bad being disadvantages and the ugly being the dangers of social networking. In today’s society, where technology is the driving force for almost everything, there is no escaping social networking. Whether it’s being told to follow someone on Twitter, taking a photo and uploading it to Instagram or finding out more information about a company through it’s FaceBook page, you can do almost anything with the help of social networking. We have all heard of these social networking outlets, but they were not the first in the business. According to an...

Do You Know How to Communicate Effectively with Different Communication Styles?

...Do you know how to communicate effectively with different communication styles? AB221: Customer Service “The Impact of Communication Styles on Customer Services” When we think of communication styles through customer service what immediately comes to mind is spoken words (tone or language), body language (cross arms or stance), engagement and professionalism. But that’s not all that communication styles entail. Customer Service is built on a foundation of communication, acknowledgment and response. (Everson 2007) It’s important to understand how to deliver effective customer service to internal and external customers. Though do we really understand the communication styles that we relate to more effectively, is the question. There are three basic communication styles that a customer service or consumer might fall into, they are the following; (Gibson 2008/2012) Aggressive- poor listener, sarcastic, know it all and loud. Passive- hesitant, allows others to make decision for self, self-effacing and low tone. Assertive- active listener, confident, fair/just and attentive. Once we have been able to identify the category we fall into, we also can learn to adapt to the other communication styles. This will allow for us to understand on how to be more assertive on handling the flow of communication, whether it’s via the phone, in person, through email or mail. Remember our goal at the end is to provide a perfect product, providing friendly and delivering effective resolution...
