Wanted: Prince Charming

“The warm bronze sand feels like silk falling through my fingers. The sunset is so beautiful; the orange red sky looks make believe. The water is hitting the rocks so hard, yet the sound is so peaceful. As a breeze blows against me, my hair brushes along my shoulder causing me to shiver. He notices my goose bumps, he moves closer. I feel the thumps of his heartbeat against my back. He moves closer, so close I can actually feel his warm breath against me. I do not think there could be any better feeling. I am wrong. He comes closer; close enough I can hear him breathing in my ear. My mind is in a different world… I can’t hear the water anymore, I am now holding my breath, anticipating. And now, finally he whispers into my ear three magical words.” So, you must be thinking, how can a girl like me feel that? Its simple, I will give you the guideline on how to win your Prince, correct me if I am wrong gentlemen, so listen up Cinderella! Today I’ll be talking about the three factors that every woman should keep in mind when trying to win a guy, which is the external factor, the internal factor, and last but not least, her attitude. According to Crystal Mazzuca, its very easy to get any mans attention by the way you dress, especially since guys are visual. Therefore, dress to impress. Revealing clothes will get you attention, but will it get you the right kind of attention? A girl loves to feel that are all eyes are on her when she enters a room. That being said does not mean enter a room half naked. Stay composed. Be true to who you are. If you are uncomfortable showing all your skin that does not mean nobody will look at you. Flatter your body, subtly. Flaunt your features, just not all at once. There is no need to show every single shape on your body at the same time. Leave them wondering what else is behind that beautiful smile. If you are in a skintight dress showing every single inch of your body, what is left, your closed shoes? As if they are going to wonder, “Oh, I wonder what her toes look like.” Every morning as we get ready, we think of that someone we want to impress. Which leads me on to my next point.

Stay delicate. A guy likes for a girl to be confident in her own skin. Show him you take pride in how you look, a lot of make up doesn’t show that. So be simple, wear make up if you want, just don’t go over board. Basically, try not to look like Snooki from Jersey Shore. Furthermore, wear your jewels; show them off, just not all at once. Add a touch that hints who you are, what your personality is like. But, try to avoid being too crowded; you will end up looking like you couldn’t make up your mind on what to wear so you put all the rings you found on. Accessorizing and clothing tells a story, so tell an interesting story about yourself! Now that I finished talking about the external factors ill move on into the internal factors. First rule is to always remember whom you are representing; your actions will reflect on how your family raised you, or your actions (if bad) will reflect negatively on your family. Always remember you have a reputation to carry. In the Arab world, reputation goes so far. It is very normal for you to be seen not as who you are as an individual, but as whose family you are coming from. For example, if a daughter of 3 sisters were to do something bad, harmful to her reputation, she will very easily harm the future of her other sisters. People (other families) will always look into it as, “Oh, she is no good she is ****’s sister.” This happens a lot especially here in the UAE as I have seen some of my friends go through the same issue. No matter what, people will come and go but remember to be strong with your beliefs. (For example, now days the Arab world is becoming more and more urbanized, but that does not mean we should forget where we are coming from and what we believe in just for the sake of love.) Always carry your culture and traditions with you. Do not do things that will put you or your families name in shame. You want to be remembered for your good not your bad doings. There is nothing wrong with sharing your imaginations of the future, but keep them to a limit. Do not scare him off with your fantasy wedding and how many kids you want to have (especially if you haven’t been with him long enough, and if you are not even sure he is the one). The last thing a guy needs to know is that you have planned a future in respective of him being inserted into your life and plans. But still, you can trust him enough to tell him your dreams. Show him you are into him and you would like to see him in your future, but don’t scare the poor guy. Do not let him think of how he needs to start saving up to send your dream of ten kids to college. Let him in; let him know how you feel if you are upset, that’s why he is there. Just try to be wise into not gossiping too much. Also, ask about him for a change. Men may appear to be of hard exterior, but they are also humans who appreciate a little undivided attention (and occasionally spoiling) from time to time. Guys don’t like to listen to half of what we have to say, but we say it anyway and they sit and listen. Do the same for him. You might be surprised with how much he has to say. (Be there for him like he is for you). You do not need to be constantly complaining or sharing your feelings, he might think you are too into yourself. Don’t be selfish. Every girl wants to feel like she is Cinderella. But, the question is, how can we find that Prince Charming to actually make us feel like a princess? That takes us to our third and last point, which is attitude. Make him chase you but not for too long. Give him something to want. If he sees how easy you are to get, what fun is in that? Be a little frisky, but know your limits. Don’t be bottled up and super secretive like you are some sort of detective, he might get bored or impatient… or just freaked out! Try your best not to open up at once. Enclose all your colors to yourself until the time is right. Don’t hit him like a rainbow with your pink mood to your green. Try maybe from a pink mood to a red. Be restrained to give him a little mystery. This might pull him in to want to know more. Finally, and most important, don’t confuse confidence with arrogance. A confident girl is a strong girl. But do not seem too strong, a man likes to feel he is wanted and needed in your life. If you see a guy who keeps talking about how strong he is, or how easily he can beat every man up, would you be interested or just thinking, “who does he think he is?” Keep that in mind when you are bragging about how much your watch is worth, or how much your parents spoil you. Being proud will only push him away. He probably didn’t fall for you because of the brands or how much you spent on your clothes, but because of YOU. Never forgot who you are. Every girl is different, show men what makes you different, what makes you special… what makes you who you are. Always keep in mind your dignity and pride. A lot of men know how to control a woman, don’t learn to control him, but learn to win him. Catch his attention with your innocent laugh. Make him amazed by your elegant poise. Drive him crazy with you beautiful smile. Gain his respect by your dedication to yourself, your family, and your beliefs. Be that mystery he wants to know more about, let him feel that life without you is black and white. Keep in mind, that appearance is just a form, real beauty is found deep within. Show him you need him; its okay to be vulnerable sometimes, you can’t close your heart to things you don’t want to feel. Ladies, always keep your head high, even if you don’t get your prince now, he will come eventually. Stay confident, healthy, and wise, and always remember you are beautiful.

Point Of View In Jaws

...the presence of the children in the deep sea water. Afterwards, the audience realizes that the camera is actually moving faster than the kids are swimming, and that is when the audience also notices that the shot is not neutral; it is actually the shark’s point of view. Therefore, as the kid on the board gets bigger on the screen and closer to the audience, the audience also knows that the shark is approaching the kid. The audience does not see any of the shark in this shot, but they are certainly aware of its presence and they see how the shark approaches the kid that is on the floating board, as if he is waiting for the shark to come and take his life away. The audience can relate to the shark to some extent as well. A predator hunts for food in order to survive. The audience follows the shark’s point of view and picks a target with the shark, and consequently, is able to see the vulnerability of the kid. There is nothing in the water to stop the shark, nor is there any resistance from the little boy. If the audience puts themselves in the shark’s shoes, they would know that the shark is only doing its instincts, which in turn establishes how dangerous the beach area is and how defenseless human beings are with a shark...

...the action in an objective way. An example of this is when the girl jokes about the horse in the painting and walks away, just to go back, when she “stared at the horse, which she must have felt she had affronted by her laughter” (page 5 line 6). Of course, the narrator does not know why she comes back to the horse; this is just his guess of what she is thinking. This affects the readers, since we do not get to know the thoughts and feelings of the other characters. At the beginning of the story, the old man tells a younger man about Stubbs the painter and about the horses he painted. But the young man seems restless and he is not interested in listening to the old man. By his exit, he ends up insulting the older man, who does not understand why the young man is not willing to learn anything about Stubbs. Stubbs and the painting of horses seems to mean a great deal to the older man, so he gets insulted, not only by being left, but also because of the fact that the younger man rather wants to go to the French eighteenth century than spending time looking at one of the older man’s favourite paintings. By describing the scene like this, the narrator makes us sympathize with the older man. This is the first place in the story where the old man is described in a piteous way. Suddenly, the atmosphere of the room changes by the entering of a group of young schoolgirls. Everybody in the room,...

...The Tell-Tale Heart (Poe 691-695) by Edgar Allan Poe has stood the test of time as one of the most popular short stories in American literature and is still read in almost every educational institution in the country today. In this written discourse we will uncover the reason this is so. Poe intends to capture his readers’ attention and then employee psychological tactics that will play on your emotions in only a very short amount of time. Let Them Eat Dog Essay

...A Man's Best Friend  A man's best friend is one that is always there for him through tough obstacles and hardships in life. George Orwell once stated, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." The relationship humans tend to have within the animal kingdom is not as civilized as it should be. When looking at it from a moral and religious perspective, humans should treat all animals equally. Statistics have shown that in developed countries such as the United States, animals such as dogs are treated far better than other animals. The question then arises, why do dogs get treated more diligently while other animals with the same mental capacity get slaughtered and consumed? By looking at "Let Them Eat Dog" by Jonathon Foer, the perception of why one should not think of dogs as superior animals and why the idea of consuming a dog should not be looked down upon in society will be thoroughly analyzed and examined. People in the United States think it’s morally wrong to eat dogs since it is a household pet. The same people who don’t eat dogs, eat other animals such as pigs, chickens, and cows, which is questionable because they still devour animals that are necessary to the environment and society today. In "Let Them Eat Dog" by Jonathon Foer, the author gives logical reasons on why we should eat dog, and why it is not harmful to the society in any manner. It's legal in 44 states to eat dog, and dog meat poses no greater health risk than any other meat....

Women's Stereotypes

...Recently many women have been uploading parody videos of what it would be like if women “catcalled” men. These videos were created to show men how ridiculous “catcalling” is. My favorite videos are the ones that portray women performing the most popular type of “catcalling” for men, the vulgar type. It shows men how offensive and degrading it is to have someone holler sexual comments at them. It’s not just offensive and degrading, it’s also annoying and immature. Men say they wish women would speak to them that way, but they only feel that way because they’ve never had to deal with it the way women do. Many people view “catcalling” as something innocent, as just a joke, but it isn’t because women are unaware of what that man’s intentions are. This man is potentially a rapist or a murderer, but then again he could just be immature, there is no way to know what that man’s intentions are and that’s what is so frightening about...

The Tell Tale Heart Film to Literature

...Heart is a story about a man who claims he has a disease but implies that because it has not dulled his senses, he cannot be called mad. He also points out his mental disorder actually caused his senses to become more acute. When he claims that he has heard things from heaven and hell, it gives away that his super human sensory is an illusion. He seems insane, he talks about an old man who he loves, but he can’t stand his eye or his heart beat. Before the end of the story he kills the old man. In the film there are characteristics that add to this story. The visualization, since you don’t have to imagine it, gives a greater impact. Film has the ability to add a lot of emphasis that make certain scenes stick out from the rest. This grabs attention. Some elements in film can’t be put into literature, an obvious one is actual sound. There are many different similarities in film and literature adaptions, but film brings unique qualities to a story that literature cannot. Film adaptation provides a physical visual for the events in the story. The film begins with a scene of the killer standing in a dark room while in a straightjacket. It's an erie start for the film. The killer is breathing heavily and opens his eyes slowly. This scene gives evidence that he is mad mentally and emotionally. This also makes it seem like the killer has objective. The killer arrives at his brothers house at night time. They make a toast. They continue to talk while sitting in their father's library....

How Are Fashion and Appearance Central to the Construction of Social Identities?

...How are fashion and appearance central to the construction of social identities? Fashion can be defined as the prevalent style and custom at a certain point in time. Besides being necessary and protecting us, clothing also shapes and defines us in the cultural, social and psychological aspect. It has been a part of culture and identity since the earliest of times. We live in a world where fashion and clothing play a significant role in shaping and determining the identity and social image of people. This physical appearance often determines other people’s impressions of us and becomes a measurement of our self-worth. Nowadays with an increased self-consciousness, establishing the social identity of a person, fashion and appearance have played a crucial role. Wilson (1992: 13) has said, ‘clothing in fact, has the unique characteristic of being able to express ideas about sex and the body while simultaneously it actually adorns the body.’ While sexuality for both men and women has largely been shaped by the central ideas of fashion and appearance, there is evidence indicating women have been impacted more by the influences of fashion than men have. Therefore it is possible to say women, who are strongly influenced by fashion, may be more susceptible to social identities as Craik (1994: 176) said, ‘women are fashionable but men are not.’ Although Finkelstein (1996: 56) has argued that, ‘fashion has been seen as a device for confining women to an inferior social order,’ showing...

Misogyny

...of dozens of semi-naked women dancing provocatively around one famous rapper has become the usual in music videos. Hip hop has become a mess of unrealistic images of female sexuality. Some defend that the sexism in hip hop is a part of a hip hop artist life. If that’s the case then how did this image become the accepted standard of hip hop music video format? Many artists try to manipulate their fans in believing that this is their lifestyle, but the main reason behind that is sex sell and it draws people in. Some women have made careers of this lifestyle. If you pay attention to hip hop videos you may see some of the same faces in multiple videos. The more revealing they are the more casting calls and more money they will receive. To me I find it embarrassing that rappers degrade females in their music videos but still have the same ones in every other video. What would your parents think if they see something like that? Because I know my mother wouldn’t be so pleased. Young women who watch music videos on a daily tend to imitate the video girls to get young men’s attention wearing provocative clothes and dancing suggestively. ...The other film viewed in class, The Accused, exhibits that often in the world of rape cases, that the victims themselves are viewed as suspects within their own cases. That more often than not, these cases play into the man’s point of view, and need a man’s point of view to validate the victims side of the case. The film centers around a woman named Sarah Tobias who isn’t what most would call a model citizen. In fact, she plays into the role of Kimmel’s “bro”. Kimmel describes a “bro” as the following: “Another way for a girl to avoid being either a babe or a bitch is to become a “bro”. Sex in the Media

...gift from God. When a man and a woman marry, they should be able to look forward to enjoying a fulfilling sexual relationship for the rest of their lives. Yet long before people marry in our society, they have been forced to view images of cosmetically perfect bodies engaged in simulations of sexual acts. The way mainstream media portrays sex leaves many teens ill prepared for a life where lasting sexual joy can only come from a relationship built on mutual love, respect, honesty, and trust. Sex is the second strongest of the psychological appeals, right behind self-preservation. Its strength is biological and instinctive. However, its effectiveness and application are gender linked. Thus, in advertising it is easy to get a man’s attention by using women’s bodies and associate getting the woman if he buys the product. It is playing on his instinctive side rather than his intellectual view of the world. To sell to a woman, advertising relies on romance. Romance fits into the woman’s intellectual view of relationships since its...

The Devil In Hawthorne's Young Goodman Brown

...When Goodman Brown meets the man whom Hawthorne later reveals to be the devil, Hawthorne draws attention to the man’s staff, which resembles a black serpent. The staff strongly suggests the man’s supernatural and sinful nature, and it connects “Young Goodman Brown” to the Biblical story of Adam and Eve’s temptation by a serpent to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge. Goodman Brown and Faith, like Adam and Eve, are tempted to do what is forbidden in their community and lose their innocence for the sake of knowledge. The staff of the devil in this story is described as having, “…the likeness of a great black snake, so curiously wrought that it might almost be seen to twist and wriggle itself like a living serpent.” (13) This is directly...

In the in media res opening we are presented to a first-person-narrator whose gender and appearance remains unknown throughout the story. She (or he) is spending a one hour break at a museum with a very clear and simple intent. The plan is to find a great painting centered in the middle of the room where she can sit and study it. But not just any painting (p. 1 lines 4): “It should be already known to me”, is how the text describes it, and indicates that we might be dealing with narrator who is playing safe. George Stubbs painting “Chestnut Horse” is the piece of art she ends up admiring. At first she is alone in the room, but then an elder (p. 1 lines 9) “well-presented” man joins her. He is sitting quietly and observing the painting until a younger boy, which relation to the man we are not presented for, takes the seat next to him. The man in his sixties starts telling the boy about the “Chestnut Horse”, and in this passage the reader is presented for an essential theme in the story; generations gaps. Though our narrator is very interested in the man's speech (p.1 lines 15): “How much I would have liked to know as much as he did, and to share this passion for Stubbs and the horse but only phrases reached me”, it does not takes long before the young boy gets bored and says (p...
