Process of Writing an Effective Commercial

As a viewer we can hate, absolutely love, or show indifference to a commercial. It may seem like commercials overwhelm airtime on television and radio. Is it really that hard to create a commercial? If a product is popular how hard is it to sell and promote it to a consumer? Commercials can entertain and annoy the viewer. Commercials can create a “buzz” about a product and put the product in the spotlight of the public. Commercials are a powerful tool in conveying messages to the consumer. If a commercial is done well the message regarding the product or company will be perceived by the consumer in a positive manner. A good commercial can sell a product, sell a company and sell the message they want delivered to the viewer.

To begin to write an effective commercial, writers may follow some outline to achieving this process. First, understanding the product is essential. Research the product. Is it a new product? Who are the competitors for the product? What makes the product unique? Second, decide what kind of advertising would be best for the product. Radio, television, print ad, internet? Third, who is the consumer? Are you targeting a young or older generation? Where do these consumers live? What geographical area will be targeted? Fourth, how does the product affect the consumer? Is this product already being used? Is the product newly designed and able to be used more efficiently? Is the product new to the market and why should the consumer purchase the product? Fifth, select the approach and writing technique to promote the product. Will humor help sell the product? Will demonstrating the product help enhance the commercial? Sixth, present the commercial in a clear and simple manner. Make the commercial viewer friendly. Grab the viewers attention by making the product unique and
