How To Write A Textual Analysis Of The Amit Peled Concert

On January 12, 2016 I went to see the cellist, Amit Peled, play in the Brooks Center. Amit Peled played the cello while his partner Noreen Cassidy-Polera played the piano. The concert was made up of four main sets and then had three individual pieces at the end to close. The longest part of the show was “Suite No. 3 in C major for Cello Solo, BMV 109” by J.S. Bach. This was only Mr. Peled playing the cello. I found this very interesting as the music conveyed a lot of different emotions. After doing more research I discovered that the music followed a pattern of emotions that was outlined in the concert program. The piece started out with the Prelude which just set the stage for what would follow. The Prelude was followed by Allemande which was played at a fast tempo and was very upbeat. This represented a more joyful or happy emotion. Next was Courante. This was very fast paced was seemed to illicit an even happier emotion from the audience than before. The fourth part was called Sarabande. Before this Mr. Peled was building the audience up with happiness and with this part he portrayed a much sadder emotion. Peled changed the last song than what was in the program and then he opened up for questions from anyone in the Brooks Center. The last song was supposed to be “La Suite dels Ocells” by Lera Auerbach, but he changed the song to be “Song of the Birds.” This history of this song made it a very fitting end to a performance that was a homage to Pablo Casals. “Song of the Birds” was the last song Mr. Casals played on the violin that Amit Peled was using and it was the last song Mr. Casals played in his life. The song as seen as the song of freedom in Catalonia, which is where Casals was from. He played the song to the UN after receiving the Peace Medal.
