I have decided to make the topic of my needs assessment the Lakota School District Transportation Department. I live in the Lakota School District and currently we are having a difficult time passing the newest school levy. I believe this will firmly impact the transportation department, as fuel has risen to an all time high and on top of that, bus drivers will be laid off and routes will be extended in order to fulfill the budget and need. With the advancements in technology, survey can completed quickly online. These surveys provide ample information regarding the district’s needs, how the people living in the district feel that cuts will affect the transportation department and ultimately will their children be safe with extended routes and less training for the bus drivers. A case study was done in 2006 by the Lakatos Group for the Ohio Department of Transportation Office of Transit. In this needs assessment, the underlines that inadequate transportation was being provided to many different counties throughout the state of Ohio. The need for transportation especially in rural areas was needed and that there was enough capital and operating funds to provide them with it. I have recalled my own personal driver’s education courses, in order to help develop the adequate training needed. I feel that need for these training programs are vital especially with the rise in accidents involving School Bus Transportation. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, Butler County is one of the few counties that rose in bus transportation accidents. This is a key element for my argument, that while budget cuts are necessary until the levy passes, we cannot cut the proper training for the people that drive our children to and from school. While the State of Ohio does require training hours and recertification classes, Lakota School District should provide more training involving their routes and roads for our drivers. Lakota was a rural area not too long ago, and the roads still are very hilly and have dangerous curves throughout. The individual analysis portion has discussed multiple levels of surveys and training programs that will be provided to not only the drivers but to the administration providing the evaluations. These administrators will need to know what to look for when taking an on-site look of a driver’s skills. The drivers themselves must provide feedback on the training programs that are provided and how these are beneficial or what can be provided additionally to help them. The organization analysis portion will provide information regarding what is being done as a whole to ensure the safety of the students. Yearly inspections of the bus transportation as well as the equipment on the bus will provide a clear record of what maintenance is being done and what else needs to be done. I believe that I am on the right track in my needs assessment and that the information provided will surely show why the Lakota School District Transportation Department is in need of new methods and training for their drivers and administration.

Their experience reveals that such programs do not lead automatically to the resumption of growth, let alone ensure the transition onto a higher growth path. The recent experience of transition economies has shown that price stabilization and opening up may not be enough to achieve a rise in the trend rates of investment and growth.
