HRM 560

Assignment 1: Selecting a Company
The company that I chose is AT&T. AT&T has been successful for the past 137 years at attracting individuals from all kinds of background, and it is due to their strong Human Resources Management programs, policies and procedures. They are a leader in providing an inclusive work environment, offering performance-based rewards and creating a culture of excellence. They have a statement, “our people are our company.” This statement has a lot of meaning for their employees because it reassures employees that the company understands the importance of having happy employees.
At AT&T, different programs have been created to benefit employees. They have invested millions in employee training to help grow and develop employees. They created the AT&T University, which is academically rich in various courses made accessible to all employees. Tuition reimbursement is offered for those, who wish to continue studying. The organization has a program for recent college graduates to become a store manager called Retail Leadership Development Program (RLDP), if individual passes the six month program.
The tuition reimbursement program needs some improvements. The program is divided by undergraduates and graduates. The company provides reimbursement for the classes as long as the employee provides proof of payment and grades. However, the company provides very little reimbursement per year for employees. For most employees, the reimbursement only covers one semester per year, which leaves the employee incurring expenses. The other program that needs improvement is the RLDP. The program is great for those recent graduates that get hired into the program, however the program does not encourage current employees that want to be promoted. Those tenure employees that wish to be promoted are

...Explain how the approaches to change of organizational development (OD), appreciative inquiry, and sense making are embedded in the case study “Change at DuPont.”  OD – Organizational Development is clearly the main focus here at DuPont. Tom had a vision to improve the organizational standards at DuPont not focusing on any problems that may have been present. The projected outcome for DuPont’s organizational structure was improving for the better of the company and the employees. Tom wanted to development to increase productivity for the company and its employees which would allow to company to be in a better stable place in the near future. Tom was building a strong foundation for the company which would benefit everyone involved. Tom seemed to show all the necessary skills needed to push his desired change. Appreciative inquiry – This approach points to the assumptions underlying the appreciative inquiry approach to change, which seeks to identify what is currently working best and to build on this knowledge to help develop and design what might be achieved in the future. Apparently, the southern stock-car racing metaphor was predominately used to explain teamwork, but was also the pattern for accomplishing it as well (p. 211). Once a particular system is introduced to employees, it’s usually hard to introduce a new system. Sense-making – There has been arguments that sense-making activities across the organization are indicative of the importance of understanding change...

Determining Hris Needs

...Systems Consideration in HRIS In today’s knowledge economy, organizational success depends almost disproportionally on the performance of Human Resources (HR). To increase the effectiveness of Human Resource Management (HRM) organizations are becoming more dependent on human Resource Information Systems (HRIS). A HRIS organizes employee applicant and qualifications, organizational demographics, recruiting, professional development, performance appraisals, payroll, retention, and attrition. Organizations that implement HRIS’s improve the organizations administrative efficiency with faster information processing, improved employee communications, greater information accuracy, lover costs and overall HR productivity improvements (Beadles, 2005). When selecting a HRIS, Human Resources (HR) should consider the efficiencies of using software as a service, the inefficiencies of various Microsoft Access based database software, the risks involved with integrating and combining multiple products into one system, and the consequences of improper database maintenance. In analyzing HRIS’s that would be beneficial in my current organization I chose to focus on HRIS Pro by Micro Systems, and MyHRIS by Nuview Systems. Commercial Database Systems HRIS-Pro information management software allows organizations greater effectiveness in managing HR functions and responsibilities. The advantages of HRIS-Pro are the information systems cost, modular flexibility, expansion capabilities,...

Riordan

...Running head:   Human Resource System Executive Summary In 1992, Riordan Manufacturing Inc., implemented and established human resource information system (HRIS), which was included as part of a financial package. The HRIS package included functions such as maintaining personnel information, pay rate and tax information, hire and seniority dates, vacation leave for non-exempt employees, and organizational information. However, certain areas of the HRIS could be improved upon and developed. One area that needs improvement is the network communications between headquarters and all the Riordan plants. Improvements are also needed in central repository, resume storage, maintaining training and knowledge skills information, online employee user interface, and a central location for updating and maintaining employee personal and professional information. Improving the current HRIS activities would be advantageous to Riordan leadership and their employees. Hugh McMCauley, the COO for Riordan Manufacturing requested that the human resources (HR) system be analyzed to integrate the existing variety of tools in use in the present day to a single integrated application. The request will take advantage of a more sophisticated look for information systems technology in the HR department at Riordan Manufacturing. After the project is to be completed, Riordan Manufacturing will then be left with a detailed project plan that will provide a list of tasks, resources, schedule and budget required...
