1. To Determine which laws needs to be most closely monitored in the organization and why?

The healthcare industry is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the United States. Those who provide, receive, pay for, regulate healthcare services are affected by law (Miller, 2006). Law is a body of rules for the conduct of individuals and organizations and it is normally created so that there is a minimal standards of actions required by an individual and organization. There are laws created by Federal, State and local governments. Therefore, organizations have to be aware of the existing laws in their area of operations in order to provide fair employment, protect their employees and avoid litigations which may lower the company’s credibility and causing company’s loss due to fines.
Hiring employees or building a business opens new areas of compliance in employment and labor laws which are broad and far reaching and cover broader range. Ensuring equal opportunity and fair treatment in healthcare workplaces is the responsibility of every health care leader who makes employment related decisions. Human Resources professionals in

...Assignment 1 Shante Trumpet Dr. Debbie Chotkevys HSA 510 10/21/11 Describe how you would assess the impact of the health care issue you selected in microeconomic terms. Most existing work on the price elasticity of demand for health insurance focuses on employees' decisions to enroll in employer-provided plans. However, any attempt to achieve universal coverage must focus on the uninsured, the vast majority of who are not offered employer-sponsored insurance. A survey was conducted to survey assess the willingness to pay for a health plan among a large sample of uninsured Americans. The experiment yields price elasticities substantially greater than those found in most previous studies. We use these results to estimate coverage expansion under the Affordable Care Act, with and without an individual mandate. We estimate that 39 million uninsured individuals would gain coverage and find limited evidence of adverse selection. In the United States, the economy shapes the complex interactions among employment, health coverage, and costs, as well as financial access to care and health outcomes. In economic downturns, few employers drop health coverage or restrict employee eligibility. More commonly, they reduce costs by changing benefits and cost-sharing provisions. Employees in low-wage jobs, working in small firms, and those in certain industries have been far more likely than others to have been uninsured when they lost their jobs, but this recession is affecting a broader...

...Running head: LAW AND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION Assignment #1 Jennifer Smith HSA 515 Dr. Mezu October 27, 2013 Justify your position about the importance of the physician-patient and hospital-patient relationships. The doctor–patient relationship has been and remains a keystone of care: the medium in which data are gathered, diagnoses and plans are made, compliance is accomplished, and healing, patient activation, and support are provided. To managed care organizations, its importance rests also on market savvy: satisfaction with the doctor–patient relationship is a critical factor in people's decisions to join and stay with a specific organization. A patient must have confidence in the competence of their physician and must feel that they can confide in him or her. For most physicians, the establishment of good rapport with a patient is important (Lipkin 2012). Some medical specialties, such as psychiatry and family medicine, emphasize the physician-patient relationship more than others, such as pathology or radiology. The quality of the patient-physician relationship is important to both parties. The better the relationship in terms of mutual respect, knowledge, trust, shared values and perspectives about disease and life, and time available, the better will be the amount and quality of information about the patient's disease transferred in both directions, enhancing accuracy of diagnosis and increasing the patient's knowledge about the disease...

...As a health care administrator, your legal actions have legal implications and are implicitly and explicitly based on law. Any omissions in the conduct of your duties on your part are also governed by law. Consider the basic governance of a health care setting and how your roles as a top administrator in this setting are affected by the legal system. A healthcare system is like any other organization or society in the instance that it needs rules, communication, and active acknowledgement of each person’s responsibilities and roles among those involved in the system to succeed. As administrators we must do what needs to be done in order to ensure that the system succeeds not only for the benefit of the health care organization itself but more importantly for those that depend on the system, the patients that need our care. Not only do we need to know what it takes to make a health care system work, but we also need to understand the law that the system needs to abide by and make sure those laws are put forth in our actions. According to the Dowton Consulting International Journal, some of the problems with the governance within the healthcare system are: “one of the elements (corporate or clinical governance) is weak or underperforming; the linkages between corporate and clinical governance are not understood and respected inside the organization; and the boundaries between corporate and clinical governance are not effectively managed.” Now the corporate layout is made up of...

Hsa 500 Assignment 1

...Health is defined by The World Health Organization (WHO) as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (WHO Constitution).Based on this definition there are many things to consider that may affect one’s health. Individual behaviors, economics, and social structure are some things that play a major role in one’s overall health. Today, more than ever, there is growing interest, awareness, and momentum for the promise of performance management and quality improvement. Other sectors – such as industry, healthcare organizations, and business – have successfully used these concepts and tools to improve service delivery and process performance. In public health settings, performance management and quality improvement tools are being promoted and supported as an opportunity to increase the effectiveness of public health agencies, systems, and services. This paper will analyze the key milestones made in shaping the healthcare industry, evaluate the significance of financing and technology in health care, the complexities associated with changing demographics and emergent diseases, and challenges presented to healthcare management. Twenty years ago U.S. healthcare cost $2800, on average, per person. Ten years ago, that figure had risen to $4700 per person. And four years ago, in 2008, it was $7500 per person. (Kaiser Family Foundation Report.) Over the same period, the portion of Americans without insurance has...

Assignment 1 Hsa 525

...Assignment 1- Brandywine Homecare Brandywine Homecare, a not-for-profit business, had revenues of $12 million in 2007.  Expenses other than depreciation totaled 75 percent of revenues, which is $9 million, and depreciation expense was $1.5 million.  Income statement is the one of the three financial statements. The other two are the balance sheet and the statement of the cash flows. Brandywine Homecare’s total profit margin of 12.5 percent shows that the homecare makes 12.5 cents on every dollar of total revenues. If the company doubled its depreciation, both net income and profit margin would be zero. The cash flow will be the same for both cases, which is $3 million. Cash accounting and accrual accounting are two similar methods of maintaining accurate accounting records. Accrual accounting is considered to be the standard accounting practice for most companies. Equity is the ownership claim against total assets. For investor-owned businesses, equity is the amount of owner-supplied financing. Equity for not-for-profit businesses is the amount of capital supplied by the government grants, charitable contributions or other organization. Brandywine Homecare Brandywine Homecare, a not-for-profit business, has reported revenues of $12 million in 2007.  Expenses other than depreciation totaled 75 percent of revenues, and depreciation expense was $1.5 million.  It is reported that all revenues were collected in cash during the year and all expenses other than depreciation...

Health care marketing must be repeatedly applied and practiced strategically to include environmental dimensions, such as technology, socioeconomics, competition, and regulatory. That being said, in today’s global economy, investors and potential entrepreneurs must tap into the so-called “unexplored” market. In this aspect, health care establishments must utilize marketing, advertising, as well as sales strategies when pursuing new customers (e.g., suppose a health care investor wanted to build a small hospital in a rural community); this would entail exploration and logistical experimentation to determine who will patronize the facility. In an impoverished neighborhood, the feasibility of having lucrative profits may see diminishing returns, and so the venture may be not worth the effort. Also, suppose that the potential investor wants to sell mosquito deterrents (e.g., bedside netting in malaria-infested regions of Asia or Africa); then it would be wise to investigate the number of beds that are actually in the village, and who would be willing to purchase them.
