Hypothetical Scenario: Your school is considering going to school year round.

If school was to go year round there could be multiple of stuff that could make it displeasing for the students and teachers. First is problem in this scenario is summer break, then there is the problem of kids skipping half days because the electives aren’t as important as core classes and also the problem of students having a great breaks from learning math, english, science, and history during the school year.
To me in my life taking summer break will be a bad thing, not only for me but also for my dad because he relies on me for the three months of no school to increase the amount of work/money he gets which affects my family a lot. I know many teens who do the same with their family, three weeks off after every nine weeks of school would be pretty cool I’d admit but it wouldn’t be enough to help family businesses like construction like what I do. After all it doesn’t take three weeks or four weeks to finish a big apartment building that my family works on every summer break, or doing field work. The amount of time off is not great enough for all those who do hard labor, in a city it would be more fitting of this school schedule but in a place in montana where …show more content…
There would be a significantly great absences because electives aren’t as important as core classes when going to colleges or getting a higher education. While in the school schedule that we have right now has some core classes in the morning and in the afternoon making students stay in school all day because of missing out on their core classes. So without core classes in the morning and afternoon many students will not feel obligated on to going to school for the rest of the

A year round education will help students retain the information learned; it can assist teachers in time saving curriculum work after the school day; which will help improve the students test scores. This program can keep students occupied more because of the less extended break can prevent them from getting in trouble. Argument

...attending school year round. People seem to think that if students are forced to go to school as long as students in other countries, they will be more studious. To be honest, I have always been interested in the lives of students who go to school all year. How can they stand being around their classmates and teachers all the time? Do they any get weekends off? Do they get any vacation time to be with their families? I wonder if the new arrangement will really make kids more interested in their studies. A lot people, including myself, feel that kids and teachers just need time to themselves. Also, people claim that the extended school time will leave less time for kids to get in trouble. While the argument is understandable, there is no guarantee that more school would keep kids out of trouble. If anything, depending on your child, it might get them time to get into even more trouble. Depending on how attentive the staff and administration of your child's school is, they could just cause problems there, and probably get away with more since there are no parents around. There has also been talk that students do not need the long break because they can forget what they learned in class. There have also been claims that students will be forced to study more and focus longer in class. For me, and many others with ADD, although possible, it would be quite difficult to do. Students who already take on lots of extracurricular activities will be too stressed out for school. One year I went...

Persuasive Essay On Year Round School

...brim with excited children bursting out of their respective schools and into their favorite part of the year: summer break. The following three months are filled with exactly what those enrolled in school want–no pressure to perform academically. Though the majority of the United States is in agreeance with the traditional structure, the population of year-round supporters is ever growing. The United States is steadily losing the ability to compete globally in academia, therefore more and more citizens are looking to eliminate summer break in lieu of a year-round schedule. Although this may help with the issue, it also is eliminating much of the freedom American children have. Summer...

Intersession Breaks In A Short Summer School

...At this point, the schools’ intersession breaks, which have previously been mentioned, may come in handy because each intersession can act as a short summer school. Students could use these intercessions as a tutoring period as well. Particularly if the school operates a multitrack schedule because a portion of teacher would always be around to assist students. A portion of teacher would be on school grounds because some if not all of the school's facilities are used on an offset year-round schedule. Aside from allowing for an extra tutor/learning period, shorter breaks can benefit a student in terms that it cuts down on summertime boredom that most students would experience during summer vacation. An increase in shorter breaks also brings...

Year Round School Case Study

...The county wants to change the regular school schedule into a year round school year in my opinion, I think this is the worst idea ever.I have 3 reasons why this idea is totally horrendous and in this essay I will tell you why. The first reason I think the year round schedule is horrible is because we lose vacation time.If we had only 6 short weeks of summer everyone would go on vacation at the exact same time and it would be all packed. We would we stressing out about studying while weŕe trying to have fun at the beach. It would be challenging for teachers because instead of having a great time with their family, they are sitting in their bed grading papers. The second reason I think this schedule is ludicrous is because we would not have...

Four Day School Week Research Paper

...Schools should not go to a four day week. Schools need to stay on a five day week method. During the five day school week students prove to be more productive. Four day weeks do have welfare and hurtful origins, this includes better time management, disadvantages to pupils, and teachers need to have a say in the decision. Spread out over the four days the lost day results only in about ten extra minutes per class period (Harfield, Brian). Four day school weeks give you more time to sleep in and more time off. People that go to church and have five day school weeks don’t get to sleep in. People with four day school weeks have more time to do homework, and an extra day to sleep in. During this time off we can have more time to spend with family also breaks could be longer. Moreover; about 100 of the country’s approximately 15,000 school districts, in seventeen states, use four-day school week’s method (Hartfield)....

When suddenly a school ad came on the radio and we began to talk about school coming up.This gave me chills especially because I did not know anything about the upcoming school year.Weeks later, sure enough it was the first week of my junior year and the most dreaded words a high schooler wants to hear is “pop quiz” or “test” and like I thought it was on what we knew from last year. As I was taking the quiz I could remember nothing but summer fun. As we got our quizzes back I realized I had failed. Year-Round To School

...Dark circles under the eyes, dragging feet, long yawns, tired expressions and outrageously messy bedhead are all descriptions for a modern student in school in the United States; furthermore, this student does not attend year around school. Try to conjure an clear image of what a student who goes year-round to school might look like: grotesque. Not only are students already tired and sleep deprived, they are yearning for snow-days and summer break. Thus, changing the school system to year around would certainly discourage, tire, and be an inconvenience for many attendees. Many educators and parents could certainly agree that students are overloaded and at the point of implosion, or explosion. For example, in curriculum students are increasingly...

Year-Round Education

...Year-Round Education One of the big issues today in the United States seems to be school reform; everyone seems to agree that we need to improve our nation’s schools. There have been several solutions suggested, such as: reforming curriculum, implementing national tests, and improving the quality of teachers. One specific solution may be to change the school calendar from the traditional school session of nine months, to a year-round term. Supposedly, this new calendar better facilitates learning. Year-round education has the potential to bring economy, accountability, and educational efficiency to the schools. While Year-Round schooling can save money, the impact on academic achievement is uncertain (Graves, McMullen and Rouse). This type of school system impacts students, teachers, parents and the community in both positive and negative ways. The traditional school calendar has been in effect for more than a century. Students have relied on a 180-day school year with a long summer vacation. Originally, the school calendar was organized so that children would have the summer off to help their parents work on the farm. Although most communities no longer depend heavily on agriculture and children no longer carry on the responsibilities they once did, our society continues to follow the traditional school calendar. The debate surrounding YRE (Year-Round Education) generally focuses on five broad categories: professional staffing and development, administrative...

Year Round School

...Is year-round school a good fit for students? Before making a decision, the pros and cons of this educational system need to be reviewed. Students who go to a year-round school go to class the same number of days as kids on a conventional school plan. What’s the difference? A year-round school timetable is spread out more evenly throughout the year. “The traditional calendar is divided into nine months of instruction and three of vacation during the summer. Year-round calendars break these long instructional/ vacation blocks into a pattern of sixty days of instruction followed by twenty days of vacation.” (CA Dept of Education). Students who receive more frequent breaks don't receive a customary ten to twelve-week summer break. Removing any kind of long break from school can enhance a child’s educational accomplishment. Long summers are known for "summer slide," or the decay of cerebral abilities and loss of information throughout the longer break. Summer-slide is different across grade levels, subject matter and family income, according to the National Summer Learning Association. However, it still affects all children in some way. If a student does not have a long break, it helps prevent summer learning loss. Summer learning loss is a significant issue for children. All children – rich or poor - experience a slide in math over the summer. The slide is different for everyone. Despite the fact that it may appear fun, an extended summer break can frequently prompt weariness...

...break. You are surrounded by distractions and the next school year seems like decades away. After all you have nothing but time on your hands.
