...Deli Dialogue: Gabby Hey there! Welcome to the Speedwich amazing Deli. They’re so fast you actually have time to eat the sandwich you got during your lunch break, instead of taking one bite and shoving it in your desk! Student Text Bubble Sounds great. What’s wrong with Quentin? He looks sick. Alicia He’s just a bit nervous, that’s all. I was just trying to get him to calm down. Quentin Which is not easy, considering I might fail my class or worse, get expelled from the University. Oh man! Where’s my pastrami on rye? Alicia Quentin may not have cited his sources for his last paper properly, and he’s worried he’s going to be accused of plagiarism. Gabby As much as it is an easy mistake to make, plagiarism is still a serious offense and could lead to a Student failing their assignment or even being thrown out of a class or school altogether—even if it is an accident. Quentin You’re not helping here, Gabby! Student Text Bubble Is it really that serious? Gabby Yes, plagiarism is right up there with cheating and stealing, from a moral and ethical perspective. You’re taking someone’s property, their intellectual property, and claiming it as your own. That’s why we’ve been focusing a lot on citation. When you cite your sources, you not only give your readers a clear path to take if they want to read and learn more on your topic, you also protect yourself. Alicia Thankfully there are great tools provided by the University...

Geocaching Love

...My name is Rosemary and I am not your typical person. During my free time I like to stumble in the woods or try to appear sneaky in town. The reason I do it is? Usually I am looking for Tupperware containers. Sometimes it could be a tiny little container the size of my pinky nail. I find them, sign the log and if the container is big enough I leave a small little trinket. I’ve been doing this for a few years now and I’ve found close to 1,000 such container. Sometimes I even have to solve a puzzle to find them. Most of my friends that do this don’t even know what I look like. Also they do not know my real name. They just know me as TrailSteamer. What is this craziness I speak of? Simple, it’s called geocaching. ------------------------------------------------- I started geocaching as a way to lose weight. I have lost a little and I know I am more toned then I use to be. But I am still what people would call overweight. I prefer to be called curvy, womanly, or better yet just down right sexy. There is just more to me to love. I would probably lose more weight if I if I did not make such kick ass food. I currently work at a cupcake shop in the small town I live in. I work there to pay the bills while I’m working on psychology degree. I want to work with women who were in abusive relationships. For some reason I have never told my friends about my hobby or as I like to call it my other life. However, things in my world of geocaching is about to get interesting. Rosie couldn’t...

Exploring the Consumer Society

...XW4 April 19, 2014 Professor Lee Exploring the Consumer Society: The Urge to Splurge I grew up in a middle-class neighborhood in McKinney, Tx. The high school I went to, McKinney High School, had students in attendance whose parents were on government assistance, students whose parents were in the top 10% of the top 1% financially and everywhere in between. Consider this, if you took a group of randomly selected students from my high school and your goal was to estimate their household income based upon the value of their possessions (phone, clothes, jewelry, shoes, etc...) you'd most likely get it all wrong. This is because it doesn't matter where you come from, how much money you have, or what you look like; you're a customer, you're a consumer. We live in a society today and I went to a high school where people are judged based upon their possessions and what they can acquire. It doesn't matter how you acquired it, as long as you've got it. I think that judging people based off of what they own is a huge mistake. I think it's unfortunate we are constantly purchasing things because of a brand or a logo, but at the same time I don't practice what I'm preaching. It's interesting to me that as I begin to think about it, I don't think any of the nice things I own are bringing me happiness right now, they have only provided some form of instant gratification. If someone asked me what I have to be happy about, I'd provide the cliché answer along the lines of “a loving family...

When he looked at her neck he was reminded of how difficult it was to unstring a turkey. Is it my fault, he wondered, or hers - or was it the fault of her birth, some glandular deficiency, some inherited characteristic? It was sad how when one was young, one so often mistook the signs of frigidity for a kind of distinction. ' Y o u promised we'd smoke opium,' M r s Carter said. •Not here, darling. In Saigon. Narrative Report

...fighting with their conscience.” This is what I learned from this rotation. My life brought me to this life changing experiences. My mommy is the only person I talk about my life, my problems, my achievements, and she fills up the emptiness I felt when I was down. In any instances, she never brought me down. I’m including this to my narrative, because even though she never really did felt the hard thing about “bearing down a child” because she was a post-cesarian section patient for me and my brothers, but she felt the pain in labor which is the hardest of them all as a patient told me. In my duty here in the delivery room made me reflect about the life my mommy, luckily gave me. So I decided not to waste it and cherish all the sacrifices and pain she felt when she was giving birth to me. And when I delivered my first ever baby, I texted my mommy right away saying, “Hey Mommy, I Love You! Thank you for this wonderstrucking life. I’ll be home soon.” Our clinical exposure here at Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center made us stressed, tired but we can tell ourselves that after this rotation. We can surely handle anything else. Thanks to our Clinical instructor Ma’am Marie Ann Lapitan, She was one of my favorite instructor *no joke*. From my group, I was the only person who never, as in, never experienced or even seen and assist an actual delivery. I told her that right away so I she’d know that I never handled any cases ever since. At first I was very afraid ‘coz Mam. Lapitan told...

Three Things I Value Most

...When I was asked to write this, I was a bit overwhelmed because as I started reflecting on my life. And I was even more overwhelmed when I realized that, in the perspective of a full life. Nevertheless, I’ve adopted a few simple philosophies that have helped me get through life. Trust your instincts: Your instincts are there for a reason. So LISTEN TO YOURSELF!!! Recognize that feeling in your gut when something is off. Or let your instincts lead you to the right decision in an extremely difficult situation. It’s not always easy to trust them, and I’ve always found that, for some reason, the voice in your head called “logic” will try to hush those instincts. Logic will talk you into playing it safe and may rob you of opportunities. If I had listened to myself saying I lacked experience required to tackle the leadership positions. I would have lost the chance to positively impact myself and others, and I’d be a very different person right now. I’m not suggesting you dismiss your brain altogether. Just consider going with your instincts first, then incorporate logic second. “But what if my instincts are wrong?” Well, they will be sometimes, but you must possess the belief in yourself to allow those instincts to shine through and the confidence to act upon them. Which leads me to point #2… Live confidently: We all know someone that lives life with confidence. Can you picture him or her? In the most trying situations they can be calm, cool and collected. And their presence...
