Metro Manila--the center of multitudinous opportunities, haven for the optimistic businessmen and the desperate person’s keyword to break-free from the chains of poverty. In the present state of the metropolitan region with thousands of informal settlers marring the view, is there still room to say that this place is the answer to a person’s daydream?
The government has a very ambitious aim to lessen the poor people from the present 27.9 percent to 16.6 percent of total population by the end of 2015. No one is going to buy that ludicrous statement because according to National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) Secretary General Jose Ramon G. Albert using income data from the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO), one out of every five Filipino families (about 19.7 percent) experienced poverty in 2013. From the recently issued report, NSCB has pointed that a family of five needs more or less 10 000 pesos as a monthly income to meet the basic food and non-food needs. This goal would never come into reality if more and more Filipinos from the rural areas are incessantly entering the boundaries of Metro Manila thus, increasing the number of informal settlers splayed across the danger zones of Metro Manila.
Informal settlers colloquially known as “squatters” are persons who unlawfully occupy an unused land or unoccupied building. These are usually the people who once had high expectations before they step on the streets of Manila. Usually, people would transfer to Manila together with their whole family in hope of finding the life they see on their television screens back in the province. Manila has been purchased as the paradise. It has been overly modified to a place where everybody would strive to go. Unfortunately, the seemingly exaggerated showcase of the metropolitan has made the

Im Fye

...I was walking to my car when I noticed my pants were on fire. I turned to my friend and said, "I think were going to need an oven and fast."  He grabbed me with his soggy fingers and said.. "Snap out of it, Man."  Then he proceeded to chant and walk in circles around me.  I looked down, My pants were still on fire, but by this time it had spread to my Uterus and three other ligaments. I was getting pretty agitated that no one seemed to care about my third degree burns, or my soon imminent death, but I went along with his plan still hoping he'd manage to save me through his voo-doo witchcraft.  After I came out of my trance from the fire I noticed that I was now in the kitchen of my grandma's house baking a cake..  I Screamed "WHAT THE F***?"  My Grandma ran in and slapped the s*** outta me for cursing.  Then she proceeded to say, "I swear if you talk like that 5 more times, I'll beat the living s*** outta you."  I was quite confused as to what was going on and what I did to deserve this true life mad lib. I just stood there in silence with a look of uttermost confusion.. and I starred at the women who had once been a kind sweet old lady, who wouldn't even kill a baby piglet, now turned into this vicious beast of a monster with veins protruding from her neck like a porcupines quills on a midsummer day.  She gasped, and then with the blink of an eye turned back into the sweet old lady I had once known.  "Would you like some cookies, dear?"  "Ummm Yes, grandma."  As she...

Why Is The Holocaust Inevitable

...solving the “European Jewish problem”. However, the holocaust was preventable. It could have been stopped if the Spanish Republic had won their civil war in 1939 due to support by an imperial power such as Britain, USA, France, etc., if Britain and France would have finished their war treaty with the Soviets against Germany, and if the Treaty of Versailles wasn’t so badly composed and not screwed over so many nations/countries. First off, the Spanish Republic was a strong force. The Republic was all alone against Nationalists, whom were the superior force. If the Republic had support in the war by an imperial force such as Britain, France, or even the U.S., they would have won. Because of the strong power that Spain held during this time, they were a serious threat. Having a victory over the Nationalists, Spain would have survived. And Spain could have been a serious factor in the war. Given a win, Germany would have been much more cautious in their actions with another...

Me: What is your definition of happiness? Jared: I guess the definition would be to be being at peace with yourself and being at peace with who you are and where you are emotionally and mentally. Me: What makes you happy in life? Jared: A loud 375 hp Trans am with the top down (chuckling), being with a good woman. Me: Would you consider yourself to be a happy person, why or why not? Jared: No, some things make me happy, but still struggle with inner demons and I think too much most of the time. Me: Do you think you will ever get past your inner demons and be happy again? Jared: Yea, just personal things I have to deal with, my personal demons cannot be fixed, they are in the past and you can’t always change the past. Me: What experiences have influenced your definition of happiness? Jared: No real experiences, it is just what I think happiness is. Me: Has your definition of happiness changed over time? Jared: Yes, ten years ago I was just happy to have another party to go to, but now I see it is more about being at peace with yourself. Me: Do you expect the definition to change again? Jared: I am sure it probably will. The second person I decided to interview was someone I know very well, my Mom. Decoupling the Univac Computer from Spreadsheets in Redundancy

...Decoupling the UNIVAC Computer from Spreadsheets in Redundancy Taras Mos Abstract The implications of embedded models have been farreaching and pervasive. Given the current status of lossless algorithms, computational biologists predictably desire the study of symmetric encryption, which embodies the confusing principles of e-voting technology. In order to fix this issue, we concentrate our efforts on demonstrating that Smalltalk and the location-identity split can collaborate to surmount this problem. the analysis of object-oriented languages. Furthermore, we validate that IPv6 and lambda calculus can interfere to surmount this riddle. The rest of this paper is organized as follows. We motivate the need for Boolean logic. Furthermore, to fulfill this objective, we concentrate our efforts on disproving that extreme programming and IPv7 can interact to answer this problem. To achieve this objective, we motivate a novel application for the investigation of compilers (Cutch), which we use to disconfirm that consistent hashing can be made robust, “smart”, and optimal. Ultimately, we conclude. 1 Introduction Many biologists would agree that, had it not been for Smalltalk, the improvement of gigabit switches might never have occurred. The influence on distributed cryptoanalysis of this has been adamantly opposed. Next, two properties make this method perfect: our heuristic requests symbiotic communication, without providing the UNIVAC computer, and also Cutch emulates the...

Alone on a Stormy Night

...hotel of choice. Usually I would stay with Aunt Rose, but I begged them to let me stay home alone. In my opinion, I was a big girl and our neighborhood was very quiet. It turned out to be a rainy night, I was alone in my room reading my favorite Nancy Drew book on my new iPad. Suddenly, I heard very loud thud at the front door. I didn't expect anyone at that late hour, so I assumed it was some stray animal on our porch. But once again that mysterious thud, that was no animal. I decided to check it out, I went in to the door peeped out no one was there, maybe I was just sleepy. I checked all the doors to make sure they were all locked and started back to my room. Suddenly, there was a flash of lightning as bright as daylight startled me. At that same moment I saw a tall figure at the window, I immediately started creeping towards the kitchen to get to the home phone. The lights then started flickering, and before I knew it the electricity was off. I stood their completely stunned as I thought of what to do next. Another loud thud. I peeked out of the kitchen looking at the window, to my relief the mysterious figure was no where in sight. Cautiously, I emerged from the kitchen and headed blindly to the store room to look for a flash light. After a couple minutes searching for a flashlight, I finally found one. At that same moment I heard movement in the living room. I then froze completely as I tried to listen to see if it was just my imagination. However, I was soon convinced,...

Hatshepsut

...as lesser human beings who are unworthy to be in a position of power or status. However, shifts in power can be recognized at the beginning of the New Kingdom in Egypt. In the eighteenth dynasty, the wife and mother of King Ahmose showed growing signs of power as many cults proclaimed dedication towards them. Shortly afterwards, the New Kingdom produced the “rarity” of a “ruling queen” (Freeman 64). Queen Hatshepsut was a great example of how formidable and influential a woman could be when serving in a position of power. Hatshepsut was the daughter of King Thutmose I and when her father died, she married her half-brother, King Thutmose II. When her husband died, his son Thutmose III (who was only a boy at the time), ruled the throne and Hatshepsut was accepted as co-regent. However, she quickly assumed absolute control over the Egyptian empire by “claiming that she was ruler by right as the heir of Thutmose I” (Freeman 64). Her rise to power defied the patriarchal views set in place by the men in power and set a new precedent for the roles women led. Hatshepsut is historically significant for a number of reasons. During the time in which she ruled, her reign was peaceful, successful, and stable because “for the first time in the New Kingdom a ruler had effective control over Middle Egypt” (Freeman 65). One of her greatest achievements was the campaign she led into the land of Punt which resulted in many exotic goods such as aromatic plants, cattle, and ebony. Hatshepsut...

Apple

...1. Cupertino, California based high school friends Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs produced their first computer, the single-board Apple I, in a garage workshop in 1976. After selling 200 or so of the computer, Jobs attracted the attention of some investors, co-founding Apple Computer with Wozniak, and introducing the Apple II computer in 1977. Steven Wozniak and Steven Jobs had been friends in high school. They had both been interested in electronics, and both had been perceived as outsiders. They kept in touch after graduation, and both ended up dropping out of school and getting jobs working for companies in Silicon Valley. (Woz for Hewlett-Packard, Jobs for Atari) Wozniak had been dabbling in computer-design for some time when, in 1976, he designed what would become the Apple I. Jobs, who had an eye for the future, insisted that he and Wozniak try to sell the machine, and on April 1, 1976, Apple Computer was born. Hobbyists did not take the Apple I very seriously, and Apple did not begin to take off until 1977, when the Apple II debuted at a local computer trade show. The first personal computer to come in a plastic case and include color graphics, the Apple II was an impressive machine. Orders for Apple machines were multiplied by several times after its introduction. And with the introduction in early '78 of the Apple Disk II, the most inexpensive, easy to use floppy drive ever (at the time), Apple sales further increased. With the increase in sales, however, came...
