ISIS in Iraq

The recurring problem in Iraq is the terrorist group ISIS. ISIS stands for the Islamic State of Iraq. ISIS is able to control Iraq by using a great deal of terror. ISIS kills, kidnaps, etc., Iraqi citizens without any regret. They kidnap children, random people, and people who don’t follow the Islamic faith. ISIS continues to try to take control the Iraqi government, even they control oil refineries around the world.

There was something called the battle of Tikrit (Tikrit is the name of the capital of Iraq), which was a war between the Iraqi government and ISIS. …show more content…
The first battle of Tikrit happened after ISIS took control of the second largest city. They started moving to the capital when president, Saddam Hussein put a stop to it. The second battle of Tikrit was a battle for the Iraqi government to take back total control of their city. This battle was a success. Both battle of Tikrit’s had people die on both sides and the US did help with Iraq’s success but not help with ISIS’s hatred toward American people and the faith.

Both battles lasted a month and the aftermath was harsh. Even though the battle is over there is still tension between both side, and the Iraqi government continues to look down on ISIS. ISIS intrudes Tikrit and continues to have acts of rebellion. There are even small fight between the Iraqi police and ISIS.

Even though ISIS rose out of nowhere they do have a motive behind what they do. No-one knows exactly why they do it the way they do it, but we do know they are trying to build a country where everyone practices the Islam faith, that why the target people who practice other religions, usually Christians. ISIS also thinks of themselves as Holy Warriors and try to serve

Argumentative Essay: Should The United States Invade Iraq

...American blood in the hands of ISIS, should the United States invade Iraq to stop them? Many people say we definitely should, while others are thinking of the bigger picture. The United States invaded Iraq once already; are we ready to do it again? I believe we shouldn’t get caught up in the situation and do things we aren’t prepared for. I do believe however that the United States should maintain military pressure on ISIS in order to discourage further expansion rather than a full scale invasion of the Middle East. A full scale invasion would put the U.S. in a similar position as 10 years ago. The United States should not intervene with the ISIS Crisis in the Middle East because of the extreme cost and to preserve American...

Terrorism

...deal about Isis. These are some of what I learned, Isis was formed in 2013 in the islamic state of Iraq and Syria. They are a jihadi Salafist militant group. They are gruesome killers and are known for their brutal and horrific lashing punishments, mutilations, beheadings and crucifixions. They recently have made little kids as small as the age of 5 into bombs and blowing them up as an act of showing other people how strong they are and what they can do. Secondly they also get the attacks on video and post them on social sites as a threat to people around the world. They have captured women mostly islamic and have made them slaves, men have turned into brutal inhuman, ruthless, merciless, and savage killers. ISIS operates in Iraq and Syria and are slowly capturing more cities. The self-proclaimed leader of Isis is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and he has two deputies one is responsible for Syria and the other for Iraq. ISIS has rapidly expanded its control over Iraq and Syria by taking control of towns and cities near major supply passageways, critical foundation and border intersections. Isis started as an al Qaeda splinter group. ISIS is also known as (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) which stands for ISIL and Islamic State which they symbolize as (IS). ISIS has approximately taken over Syria and Iraq almost completely. I've come to realize that he goal and ambition of ISIS is to create an Islamic state, which is led by a leader known as a caliphate, across Iraq, Syria and beyond...

9/11: The Role Of Terrorism In The United States

...(9/11), the U.S. has been on the offensive against certain foreign terrorist organizations, with a large focus on al-Qaeda. After a decade of fighting al-Qaeda, the U.S. felt as if it’s efforts in Iraq had been successful in terms of reforming the Iraqi government into a democracy, setting the country up to effectively combat al-Qaeda threats without the help of the U.S. However, upon the departure of the U.S. from Iraq, the tumultuous relationship between Shia and Sunni tribes escalated and soon a civil war was underway. This conflict gave rise to a new Islamic...

Hard Work

...Intervene with the (ISIS) Situation? Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant known as (ISIL) or Islamic State of Iraq and Syria also known as (ISIS) are the radical Islamic group taking over territory in eastern Syria and across northern and western Iraq. Their goal is to establish a unified Islamic state ruled by one religious leader that follows Islamic law or Sharia. So far they have been able to take over by doing three steps; first they ask you if you are already part of their religion. Second they give you the option to join if you already haven’t, and lastly if you don’t join they do what they are known for which is beheading people or putting people in groups of about twenty and massacring them with their guns. Currently the United States along with most of the other countries have not done anything to stop them from reaching their goal, but the U.S has been watching over and sending missiles making sure ISIS does not gain too much power. Although it has not yet happen, this great nation will soon become involved in the problem in some way. The U.S. Should team up with another strong country like Russia and go and hunt down ISIS. The Islamic state has recently beheaded an American Citizen in video and posted it on the internet. This man was American journalist Steven Sotloff. In this video the ISIS executer says “Obama Just as your missiles continue to strike our people, our knife will continue to strike the necks of yours (“Steven Sotloff beheaded by ISIS militants”).” the...

Terrorist Organizations

...terrorist organizations all around us. Yet, which organization is the most hair-raising and spine-tingling of all? In order to understand which terrorist organization is the most threatening to the rest of the world. We must analyze the two major organizations who are causing death, poverty and a world that no one wants to live in. Those organizations are ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq & Syria) and Boko Haram (Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'Awati Wal-Jihad). ISIS emerged out of Iraq, as soon the Bush Administration had stopped the siege of Iraqi government in 2003. The reason why this terrorist organization actually thrived is because of the wrong method counter-terrorism. With the western world (states who follow a democratic...

Isis: a Philosophical Evaluation

...ISIS’ CATACLYSMISM: A PHILOSOPHICAL APPRAISAL By Dominic E.B. Anyalagbuna 1. ABSTRACT: The very inhumane hazards of the so-called Islamic militant group named ISIS are indeed highly cataclysmic! However, this paper is faced with the problem of undertaking a philosophical examination of the named group. This, the paper does, using the critical-evaluative method by considering their history, aims and activities. Upon this examination, this work discovers that, among other relevant theories, this rebel group seems to be operating on the Transcendental Idealism of Immanuel Kant which states that ‘only ideas in the mind exist,’ though one cannot absolutely arrive at it. This theory follows from the militants’ idea of Muhammad’s prophecy that ‘there will be a time when the whole world will be subjected under a ‘caliphate,’ with a ‘caliph’ as their head. Nevertheless, in the end, this treatise highlights that the solution to ISIS’s crisis is mental and intellectual re-formation. In such-wise, this work adequately recommends an urgent mental re-configuration founded on re-interpretation of the Quran among these Islamic extremists, which fundamentally, is the task of philosophy to rationally and critically accomplish. 2. PREAMBLE: There is a profound state of topsy-turvy in almost the whole countries of the world, but principally and most intensely in Syria and Iraq. This is superabundantly generated by the insurgent undertakings of the Islamic militants baptised ISIS. However, there...

ISIS Research Paper

...Sotloff, the violent and terrorist group, ISIS, posted the videos of the beheadings online to rapidly spread fear. After organizing airstrikes in Iraq and Syria for the last 3 months, the American goal of completely degrading and destroying ISIS is far from being achieved as ISIS forces keep claiming innocent lives. ISIS is still highly determined to respond with cruel terrorism to the airstrikes. Since ISIS gained influence and attacked multiple towns in Syria and Iraq, the ISIS issue has involved world politics and more people, including other Muslims who have united to fight against the Islamic State. According to Al Jazeera, the United States and various sources have claimed that the most recent killings of Syrian military officers included an American aid worker named Peter Kassig. Once again, ISIS beheaded the victims, filmed the atrocious acts, and posted the videos on the Internet. The Islamic messages of terror create more disturbances as they attack foreign aid workers and media journalists from all over the world. Kassig was a Muslim raised in Indiana. Obama ultimately called the act “pure evil” this week. The article raises doubt if the airstrikes are being...

War Against ISIS

...The War Against ISIS Ahmed Sheikhahmed Southern New Hampshire University Background Description of how the War against ISIS Began ISIS (The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham) is a terrorist group that has the objective of forming a caliphate (Islamic State) in territories stretching from Syria to Turkey, to Lebanon, to Egypt, and to Jordan, if not beyond (Blaise & Jessica, 2014). The group started in 2004 as al-Qaeda in Iraq after which it rebranded itself to ISIS two years later. The group was an ally of Osama Bin Laden’s al-Qaeda and had similar ideologies. The war against ISIS began after the group started radicalization and terrorist activities, by capturing swathes of lands in Syria and Iraq. The group was formed out...

...America believes that the war in Iraq has subsided. It is thought that many family members and friends will return home from the Middle East to stay. Now, as September is in full swing, America finds itself in a predicament. As of August of this year, The American government has sent armed forces to Iraq to assist their military in fighting against the radical group otherwise known as The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or “ISIS.” The question remains for the American people, is it best for our nation and citizens for the military to stay out of the conflict, or to try to resolve it? The American government should continue to act by sending combat teams into Iraq in order to protect its citizens, support its allies and to prevent and ultimately stop ISIS from harming innocent people. An important responsibility of the American government is to provide a sense of security and safety for their citizens, whether it is here in the country or around the world. The nation as a whole was devastated in August by the apparent murder of James Foley, an American photojournalist. The video was posted to YouTube and portrayed the horrific death as the Islamic State members decapitated the photojournalist who was captured in Syria two years prior to his execution. (DeYoung and Goldman, 1) His murderers, individually unidentified, claim to be members of the terrorist group known as The Islamic State. On September 2nd, another journalist by the name of “Steven Sotloff” shared the same fate...

Defeating Daesh

...“If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles“ –– Sun Tzu, Chinese philosopher and military strategist, around 500 BC. “Our terrorism against America is blessed terrorism.” –– Osama bin Laden (on video) “The acme of this religion is jihad.” — Osama bin Laden (Bergen, 2001, p. 41) Many have asked, “what can we do to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS)? ” There have been a variety of suggestions from airstrikes, isolation , establishing a national unity government in Iraq to the feasibility of a counter-offensive using 'local' militia's and only as a last resort U.S. Boots on the ground. These are all worthy ideas; however, it is imperative to get a fundamental understanding of what has caused this problem because ISIS is growing and becoming stronger (even though current air strikes and counter-offensives have been successful). Before a decision can be made a rigorous analysis is necessary, a sociological analysis, so that the United States and the rest of the world can determine what must be done regarding ISIS and why. (Thesis): This paper will argue that the challenge of removing IS lies in our ability to understand and realize that the terror group’s appeal is not its alleged goal of a regression to the glorious past of Islam (as Armstrong put it), nor that Islam is the fundamental cause of this anomaly, but that ISIS's appeal is, as Dorsey and Ali state, “...the opportunity it offers the socially, economically...

Should the Us Get Involved in the Conflict in Iraq?

...conflict in Iraq? Argument for US re-involvement in Iraq This paper will present the arguments for and against the idea of the US getting involved again in the conflict in Iraq since ISIS militants have started a coordinated attack on cities in Iraq, as well as the conclusions of the group after both sides of the debate have been presented. The U.S. is right to get involved in Iraq The history of U.S. involvement   To justify the U.S getting involved again in Iraq, you have to examine the history of the original invasion in 2003. This military operation helped save thousands of Iraqi civilians, overthrow a ruthless dictator that developed and used chemical weapons on his own people, supported terrorist organizations, and helped to restore order where order was lost for decades. The military operation also disarmed a vast terrorist training and financial support network that was looking to attack the U.S. Although there has been a huge public backlash due to the media supporting the whole "WMDs in Iraq was a lie to get us to go to war", the fact was that the regime’s overthrow by the U.S. was supported by almost all of Iraq. This also gave notice to other Middle Eastern dictators such as Libya’s Colonel Gaddafi that the U.S. would not tolerate support for terrorist organizations that threatened our country. I believe that war is awful, soldier's lives get torn apart by post war PTSD, and the economic impact has been immense. However, at the time, invading Iraq was definitely...

Intelligence Report on Isis

...Intelligence Mission on ISIS Report Chye Yue Zhang SCTY 415 Studies in Intelligence II Abstract The threat of terrorism became very real when it caught the United States off guard and seized the attention of the rest of the world on the 11th of September 2001, using four hijacked airliners led by a terrorist organization named al-Qaeda in an attempt to conduct suicide missions of prominent landmarks of the U.S. The Twin Towers in New York were destroyed while the Pentagon in Washington D.C. suffered damage that took a year to repair. The total fatalities amounted to almost 3,000 while twice the amount of people were injured. Since then, most nations in the world have become wary of terrorist and militant groups and the potential threats that they pose. This can be seen by the tightened national securities of many countries especially on every possible stations and ports of all modes of transport that a terrorist may pose a threat to. At this point of time, although the al-Qaeda is no longer a prominent terrorist threat, another established and independent militant organization by the name of the Islamic State (IS) got the world concerned about its activities in the Middle East which in turn affected and continues to affect the rest of the world through its twisted beliefs and brutality. This paper aims to define this currently infamous group’s beliefs and objectives, how it works as an organization, how it is a threat to many countries all over the world, and the methods...

Isis

...particularly due to the longstanding battles between those under the Muslim faith. The battles that have lasting since the 1980’s as well as the involvement of external factors has shaped the socio-political structure of the Middle-East and has granted rise to various militant groups. The main focus of this paper will be spent on the Rise of the Islamic State: ISIS and the New Sunni Revolution. The paper will provide an analysis on the events based off the depictions provided by Cockburn, a war reporter from the inside of Iraq and Syria. Providing this point of view inside Iraq and Syria illustrates the corruption of governments, abuses of power and media deception. Cockburn starts off the first chapter with talking about the fall of Fallujah in January of 2014. This being a big victory for ISIS as Fallujah is located only forty miles from Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. He explains that the “war on terror” is failing since 9/11 and gives a prime example of President Obama asking for five-hundred million dollars to train the Syrian opposition and arm them with the proper equipment. This equipment however would end up in the hands of ISIS and be a key component to their victories. US allies such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar also provided weapons for the war that ended up in the hands of the enemy. Another major point the author talks about in chapter one is that the United States is potentially fighting the wrong enemy over the events on September 11th, 2001. Cockburn states that funding...

...is about the recent problems in the Middle Eastern Countries. Saudi Arabia and Iran have not been getting along with each other. They have been very competitive with each other recently. The tension between these countries has been mainly caused by the rise of the terrorist group ISIS. ISIS has also caused a lot of problems with the United States. Saudi Arabia and Iran have not been getting along since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. However, the tension is getting worse due to the terrorist group ISIS. Saudi Arabia has been excluding Iran from their conferences that are about how to deal with ISIS. This is happening, because Saudi Arabia believes they have a much stronger militant group then Iran. Saudi Arabia’s population consists of mostly Sunnis, while Iran’s population consists of mostly Shias. Both Saudi Arabia and Iran see Isis as a major threat. That is why both of these countries are being competitive with each other recently. This has led to a meeting between both foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Iran. They had a meeting to discuss the entire situation about ISIS. After meeting both Saudi Arabia and Iran want to form an alliance with each other to confront ISIS. Both Saudi Arabia and Iran are worried about confronting ISIS, because Iraq and Syria are nearby. They are afraid that ISIS will try to take over Iraq and Syria, then go after them next. That is why both countries would like to form an alliance with each other if possible. ISIS has already established...

Should Us Put Boots on the Ground to Defeat Isis

...Should the US put boots on the grounds in their attempts at defeating the Islamic state? The humanitarian catastrophe created by Sunni jihadist rebels; publicised as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), has necessitated a military intervention by the US. The extremist group aims to create a worldwide caliphate where Muslims will unite under Sharia Law and ‘’challenge, and ultimately conquer, the West’’ (Brandon, 2006). There has been much debate as to whether the US should authorize the use of military ground forces due to the atrocities against civilians and barbaric killings against soldiers and journalists. However this essay contends, that despite the actions perpetrated by this terrorist group, a war will not put an end to the caliphate, therefore the US should not seek to put boots on the ground in attempts at defeating the Islamic extremists. It is right to say that the actions of jihadists cannot go unpunished, but the US putting boots on the ground will not defeat the Islamic state. If one understands the reason as to why the terrorists are obligated to what they do, then it is clear to acknowledge that a war will not stop them. As globalization spreads and societies become increasingly interconnected, Muslims have a choice; accept western beliefs to better integrate or preserve their spiritual purity by rebelling (Baylis, Smith, & Owens, 2011, p. 371) And this is why for many years, Muslims have fought...
