Scenario
You are a Practice Nurse at West Middlesex Hospital in Isleworth.

Following government health campaigns, the medical centre doctors want you to provide information to give to patients about the causes, symptoms and treatment of diseases, as well as guidance to help prevent illnesses. You will be preparing a leaflet to be displayed in the waiting room with basic information, as well as running a series of new parent classes to raise awareness of the treatment and prevention of childhood illnesses.

Task 1
Produce a leaflet for the waiting room. Sections within the leaflet must include: * Bacteria and how they affect human health * Viruses and how they affect human health * Vaccinations and how they can be used to prevent patients becoming unwell * Antibiotics and how they can be used to treat patients * The development and importance of antibiotic resistance for the future

Task 2
Sometimes people are unwell due to genetic factors. Prepare a report that can be used to assess your understanding so that you are allowed to discuss this at new parent classes. Focus your report on a specific genetic disorder and how pedigree analysis may be of benefit to them in the future.

Task 3
Complete 4.1f to summarise how lifestyle factors can positively or negatively affect health

Task 4
In preparation for the new parent classes you need to summarise the advantages and disadvantages of vaccination programmes using MMR as your example.

Task 5
You need to evaluate the use of antibiotics, pedigree analysis and vaccination programmes in the treatment and prevention of childhood illnesses. You may wish to use historical health campaign information in doing this and use data to back up your reasoning.
